I'd be interested in seeing it  Tongue

Grinding is a non issue, between trio and Cactaur/Tonberry exp method stats really wouldn't be an issue.

Capturing could take a while (my quick estimate is a little under 5 hours), I estimate the monster arena could be completed in 1-3 hours after the capturing was done.

Aeons and celestials are probably another hour or so, with proper planning a lot of these things could overlap too.

Overall, yes a very long run (though still shorter than a run I saw someone plan for FFXII though)
Depends on the definition of 100% SDA gives, really.

Generally the 100% definition is "please don't do this".

Chrono Trigger has one though.

Please don't do this.
:)
Quote from Toothache:
100% run would be basically over 100 hours of grinding for stat boosting nodes, dark matters and so on. Seeing individual fights out of that would be cool though, like the Dark Aeons done in the fastest time possible. I believe the fastest time for Penance is under 30 minutes, it took me closer to 50 (but that strategy was a litttle different, also no overdrives were used since their animations cost time and the damage isnt always the best given the delay effect). But yeah, no-one wants to watch silly amounts of grinding.

The fastest time killing dark aeons and Penance is using Yojimbo's Zanmato xD
Let the music play!
Ok, that is very true. But there's still a fair amount of grinding involved in using Yojimbo - building up his compatability with you, getting the insane amount of cash needed to trigger Zanmato on the DAs, and so on.
:)
You can actually get really lucky paying 1 gil.. and he will use zanmato.. Also a + if he has an overdrive i think?
There's a FAQ on Gamefaqs that can tell you alllll about it.
Edit history:
bmn: 2009-02-20 11:38:56 am
Looking at said guide it seems significantly easier to get Zanmato on International/PAL than Asia/US. Specifically, compatibility (increased by having him do powerful attacks, decreased by paying 0 gil and doing Daigoro) is divided by 4, not 30; 20 points are added for Overdrive as opposed to 2...

On Asia/US you need 65536g with overdrive to even get a shot at Zanmato against the highest level enemies, whereas 4096g without overdrive gets the same chance on Int/PAL. Even an overdrive'd out-of-the-box Yojimbo apparently has at least 25% chance of getting it against any enemy with 1g.

So, regarding Zanmato, from what I can see it'd be more than feasible for general use against bosses/DAs/etc, especially if used near the start of a segment for luck manip, but only on Int/PAL.

Having a quick play around with a new Yojimbo on International, paying 1g against low level enemies, and I'm getting Wakizashi 3 quite often. Zanmato's appeared a couple times as free moves.

Edit: No problem getting Zanmato with 1g with full compatibility and overdrive. With a new Yojimbo with overdrive, got it against Earth Eater on the third attempt. Assuming you pick "strong enemies" or whatever it is, it should be just as easy for the Dark Aeons apart from Yojimbo.

Edit 2: While the idea does interest me, I think "Please don't do this." really does apply to a Final Fantasy 100% >_> As for Yojimbo, he'd surely be useless for anything but 100% considering you need something like 200k to get him.
Congratz to Essentia for having her run accepted  ;D. I am eagerly awaiting this run.
Any rough ETA on the posting of this run?
i have six cpus working on nmf. done maybe 13 segments on average out of 53. still several days to go at present speed. then have to encode three qualities for each segment, upload, distribute to mirrors, and turn over to enhasa. rough eta is 2-3 weeks.

^ jesus christ. I really want to see this run. Thanks for doing what you do Tongue
No pain, no gain
That's why we love you, Nate.  Smiley

... well, there are other reasons, but this is a good one.  Wink
Pretty fast, all things considered. Good stuff.

I decided to upload another preview to Youtube.  Sorry it took so long - I have an 8-month old baby who takes up most of my time. Wink

It's up on SDA now, so you can see for yourself! Wink
I survived MIKE-Fest 1
Congratulation one more time  Smiley

now starting to download (9.75 GB  Shocked that will take awille)
Iron helps us play
I want to thank you for taking the time to complete this run. 10:25 is an extraordinary effort.

I would brave the 9.75GB if I had a bigger quota, but the normal quality run will do me just fine.

Torrenting at the speed of light. Literally, I guess. Awesome!
100% runs=great to watch
Hmm...this'll be a great watch like all the others I suspect.  Also torrenting despite being curious about sweden's majestic presence.

Dear Essentia,

It's about the last paragraph of your comments. I wish you hadn't written the lines, and I ask you please to delete them. I know a lot of communities in real life, where discussions about religion and politics are discouraged, because 'they only cause fights'. In my humble opinion, SDA, especially speedruns featured on SDA and their comments should be that kind of place.

My criticism is not directed against you or your religion; it is directed only towards the fact that you are talking about a religion (no matter which).

I'm not a regular poster in this forum (as you've problably already guessed), but I read the SDA news regularly and every now and again, I take a look around in here. I really wouldn't want the idea to catch on.

I tried sweden, but archive wins at 1mb/s vs sweden's 100kb/s.  I don't really use torrent.  This is actually the most recent FF I've finished since 7, so I might actually watch this one.

@Essentia: what's keeping XII from being submitted?  Also, are you going to be doing any others?
