I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
AFAIK the cutscenes in FFX cannot be skipped.

Zanmato instead of Trio? Are you mad? Good luck finding a) the cash and b) the turns against Yunalesca and BFA (as you'll need to use Zanmato three times and two times in those battles respectively). Also, getting Yojimbo is far slower than collecting the ingredients for a Trio Mix (from the Remiem Races compared to going through the Cavern Of The Stolen Fayth).

If there is time to be shaved off, it will be in the areas early in the game, I think (where battles can take a fair while e.g. Gui).
I'm the keeper of Time.
This has already been discussed.

Really nice job, too bad the time is a little bit longer for SDA... it must be very frustating, considering a lot of players will watch it anyway, and that you should deserve some kind of "reward" for your work. :/

Well, the first post of the topic should be edited to put the links to the run in it, no ?

And are you planing to upload it to another support with better quality ? Smiley
Also tenkiforecast
Times over 7 hours are accepted, considering the run is of good quality, and is as fast as humanly possible for the game. (Ala, FFVII, FFIX, Chrono Cross)

Either way... I'd like to see a run of this, espically with the difficulty involved in this game. 0_o;

This game has difficulty?
Everything's better with Magitek
I think he meant difficulty in speedrunning it.

I was wondering if KADFC had ever tried to submit it here.  Looking back through the thread, I see he said he asked Radix and Mike about it, but never got a reply.  So I don't know what that means; it's not a definitive "no", at any rate.
We all scream for Eyes Cream
I sent Radix a message about it some time after making the thread. This was his response.

some games aren't meant to have runs
there's too many short games w/o runs to worry about 10+ hour games

Well... there are lot of crapy games too, and some that are good. Smiley
THE GAME!!
Quote from Axel Ryman:

There is no difficulty difference in Final Fantasy X, but instead there's the option of choosing which version of the sphere grid you want. Maybe there could be speedruns based on what grid you decide to use.

Which one would be faster?

Yeah I know.

Why was this bumped after almost a year? >_>

Since this thread has been bumped, I'll post something that I've been thinking about.  Because of the new rules--specifically that a normal game run doesn't have to be done first anymore--someone could now do a run where they get all the Al Bhed primers at the beginning and get the 99 Underdog's Secrets from Rin.  I'm just wondering how much time that would save over KADFC's run, and if it would be enough to get the run accepted on SDA.
I take it you're thinking about Quartet (and later Trio)? I can't see it not making a huge difference for bosses as soon as you can steal the necessary mix items. I still don't see it saving more than a couple of hours, but I do believe the cutoffs for long runs are much more lenient right now; we've seen a few big ones, and if FFX goes under 10 hours I don't see a good one getting rejected considering the popularity of the game.

That said though, I'm not sure about it aesthetically since it'll likely be a bit of a game-breaker.

On top of that, IIRC (I watched KADFC's run aaaaaaaaages ago) the existing run had some meh segment management towards the end of the game that could be improved.
Everything's better with Magitek
Yes, I was thinking of Quartet and Trio.  It shouldn't be hard to get the necessary items; Underdog's Secret can be mixed with elemental items (like electro marble, fire gem. etc.) to get Quartet, and level 3 or 4 key spheres to get Trio.

However, on a recent playthrough, Rin didn't give me the 99 Underdog's Secrets until I got the airship (right after leaving Home).  This would really only make a difference on two bosses, Evrae and Seymour Natus, since IIRC Trio was used after that on KADFC's run.  Does anyone know if you can get the 99 UG earlier than the airship?
We all scream for Eyes Cream
Sadly no. That's the only time you can get it.
If that was the case, I would say about an hour can be saved if you were to use the Expert Sphere grid as well. Besides that, none of the strategy would be changed. Fit a few Spiral Cuts because I didn't have Slice and Dice when needed.

Other than that, No Encounter armor from Ghost in CotSF
rpg speedruns ftw
As someone who watched a run for this game on google video, I must say, it was freakin awesome (though it might have been by a different runner). Also, I DID NOT WATCH ALL 11+ HOURS! So how was I able to see the whole run without wasting so many hours of my time? Simple: I fast forwarded through the cutscenes (which I already saw loads of times). I only watched the gameplay (whooping Braska's Final Aeon, a screaming $%@ of a boss that took me 13 tries to take out on my first playthru, in less than 10 turns was just amazing to watch) And I was so surprised at how few chests he got, and it also showed me how little I knew about the game (lol). I think it is so stupid that SDA doesn't put runs of games that are only maybe 30 mins - 3 hours over the so-called "limit" when about half of those games only take that long to beat because cutscenes cannot be skipped in them. People can just skip the cutscenes in the video to the part they want to see (one of the many benefits of modern technology :D) without having to spend as much time as the person who ran thru it and actually took the time to watch the cutscenes. It is an absolute crying shame that people who do runs for their favorite games spend hours of their time on speedruns for a game using absolutely genius strategies that mostly they themselves made, only to find out that the site they so badly wanted to host it on won't do so because it's above the maximum time, when everyone could probably spend around 6 hrs (not consecutively I might add, because they can just watch maybe a few segments a day if they so chose to, which is also what I did when I saw the run for this game on google vid) watching the gameplay. Well, I suppose that's life (and also why sites like google video have so much more traffic than sites that are so picky about how long a video is).
100% runs=great to watch
Superwoofi4:  While I can see your point in terms of great play, even if long, being well worth watching....you seem to be forgetting logistics.  The longer a run is, especially with modern 3D games....the bigger the headache in processing time, bandwidth costs, etc.  SDA is a volunteer site with no substantial backing---loooong way from something like The Google.

All I'd say is be patient....the "soft limits" have been raising bit by bit over these last several years among other modifications to the ruleset.
There's a word for that
What guy above me said. The cutscenes can be skipped by watchers after the fact, but someone still has to watch them all to verify the run and they will still take up significant site storage space/bandwidth. Although if a run does get completed for the site I guess SDA could just provide some off-site links to where the run is shown, don't see how that would hurt anything .-.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that x_x
If it's on googlevideo, that's also mine. I loaded on to there first because youtube took forever and wouldn't allow vids above 10:50. While google didn't have a limit for anything.

Not only that, if I was to improve my run, which I doubt, the amount of time I would need to encode it will be... painful.
I only wish KADFC's run would be posted on speeddemosarchive or archive.org because i find great difficulty in downloading KADFC's run onto my computer from Google video.

I downloaded the run a year ago on my old computer from google video but didn't backup my files and my laptop was stolen. So now the run is lost to me unless I want to stream it on google video, which I don't.

Now when I try to download the run, part 1 downloads fine but for some reason downloading part 2 doesn't work.

As for verifying the run, I have watched it and there is no cheating.
Many others have seen the run on google video too and i'm sure they could verify that no cheating was involved as well.

I realize there is still some difficulty in putting this run on this site but don't say that the verification part would be difficult when so many people have already viewed the run on google video.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
I don't have any problem with KADFC submitting his run, I know FFX is a popular game that a lot of people would like to see a speedrun of. I'm sure nate will regret me allowing a FFX run on the site when he has to encode/upload 11 hours of footage Tongue
THE GAME!!
Well, it seems that we're gonna have a new longest run on SDA then. Tongue

I'd imagine that a PAL run for FFX would take far more time. Cheesy
Everything's better with Magitek
I've actually started doing a test run of this using the Al Bhed primers (would be a new game+ run, I guess).  I wanted to see how much time could be saved over KADFC's run with doing this, plus incorporating some other timesavers (such as getting No Encounters armor in the Sunken Cave instead of from Geosgaeno).  I'm currently up to Mushroom Rock Road, and I'm 3 minutes behind KADFC, but that's because I haven't been optimizing everything since it's just a test run.

I guess I started doing this because I really want to see a FFX run on SDA, and if KADFC's run was too long for SDA (which may no longer be the case, according to Mike), then I was going to see if I could save enough time on my run for it to be posted.  If KADFC's run gets posted, though, that'd be great, but I don't know if people would care to see my run afterwards.
100% runs=great to watch
I think it'd still be an interesting run Essentia since it'd take a different approach through the game in terms of resources available and pursued.  Plus....speedier.

Shouldn't do. The PS2 isn't affected by fifth-gen speed differences. The inclusion of Ribbon, the Break spells and the two-hit Tornado could actually speed things up. I'm not sure whether Tornado could really be incorporated into a run, but it's an idea. That is, of course, assuming you're not going for 100%. That would be at least 200 hours, probably nearer 300 if you're going for Nemesis.
