The segment is right before the Galbadia attack, is very long and a pain to redo. I also need to beat the Paratrooper minigame battle (the one where you punch block and kick) on the first try, which is extremely hard. There is a battle with four paratroopers in the classroom and gives forced experience before that minigame. Since there are four of them, it is extremely hard to get a segment where they give the same items. By the time I finally got the same items, I messed up on the minigame... It was very hard...

Anyway, enemies give the same experience, but they're usually at random levels near you party's average level. Not totally random, they're usually off by one or two. Since there are four enemies, it makes it less likely to get the same experience. The time I finally did it, I got a little more experience than I should've, and Zell leveled up, but he isn't in the next segment (leveled up, I mean). Right now I don't really know what I'm going to do. I'll just try and redo the segment a couple of more times and see what happens. If I can't get it close enough, I might just have to redo the rest...

I thought most of the stats in this game were based on the junction system. Last time I played this game I could swear some of my characters were around level 20 and still had 9999 HP by the end of the game. That was awhile back and I could be wrong. But this is the one game I can think of where leveling up wasn't all that important.

Exactly!

Plus, the next segment also automatically heals you, so the Hp you have doesn't matter.

Edit: I mean, I think it would be alright if I just included an explanation in the author's notes.
I just have a quick question(and sorry if someone already asked this),but did you get the best weapons for the characters you're using? It doesn't really matter,I was just curious.

I doubt it. The time it takes to get the weapons for characters in this game take far more time than it does to junciton your character well. The only one worth getting may be Lionhart and even that takes a ridiculous amount of time.
Thats cool. Its just that the Lionheart limit break is just so bad-ass.
FF8 & FF12.. Long awaited runs.
The limit break might be worth it seeing how much damage it can inflict. Time taken vs time saved? Hmm.
King of hearts
Nope, more time taken, trust me.
FF8 & FF12.. Long awaited runs.
Fair enough.

What I think is going to kill the 'viewability' of this run is the constant GF attacks. But nonetheless i'm looking forward to it.
Eh, towards the end you bareley use them anyway. If you do it right.

While this is true, there's a huge amount of gameplay from the start to 'towards the end.'
Well yeah. But I'm sure he'll have some suprises for us all throughout the run. Wink

Plenty. I also only use one GF attack. I use a lot of Renzokukens, but near the end there's a little surprise with that. Wink
did you use any major-glitches?
King of hearts
There pretty much are none. There is one that I discovered that could've helped. At the beginning of Disk Two, when you have to patrol Winhill with Laguna and Kiros, there's automatically a conversation when you begin to cross the bridge. One time, I somehow skipped the conversation. Since then I tried to do the exact same things I did, but I could never do it again. It must've been the exact specific part that there's a 'hole' that I went through to skip it. It isn't in the run since I still have not been able do it again, but it's only a few seconds anyway.

There was another funny glich that happened. During Galbadia attack, where Rinoa almost falls off the the Garden when they collide, your third person automatically runs to the side on land. For some reason, Irvine just stayed there floating in mid air. He stayed there the whole time even when Zell is talking to Rinoa. It's a damn shame because the segment was going perfect until Seifer killed me way later on... I really wish I had saved that just for a blooper or something.

Other than those, I haven't found any glitches to exploit.

Well, I talked to Radix. He basically said no, even though he never actually said he wouldn't accept it.

I could redo that segment and all the rest because I still have it's save file, and it's far into the game so I don't have to redo too much. It would be very annoying, but I can do it.

But there was another segment that I did before that's the problem. I had done the segment twice, and kept the better one (other froze a couple of times because of programs running). The one I kept was not the save file I continued with. I went on and did the rest of the game and went on not knowing about this until I found segment 16 missing (by the way the segment I'm currently talking about is # 9). That discontinuity just reminded me of segment 9 and I realized I might have a problem. When I went and checked, I realized I saved the wrong one.

Since this segment is so far back, I no longer have the save file. I would have to completely start over. The thing is, the experience difference is barely noticable (like 20). It is so unnoticable, that this went by for months. Even when I gave the files to my friends to help seed, they never noticed anything (they still don't even know).

What I'm trying to say is, is there anyone that knows Radix well and also played this game able to try and let him know how this tiny difference has no affect on anything. I just can't redo the entire run, not after this long. I know it's not a good thing, but how is this anywhere near as bad as a missing segment, no matter how short it is? Please, I can't let this whole thing go to waste over something that has no bearing on the run.
Well this is heartbreaking. I was looking foward to this.
PwNzRd!
However, you never know. Maybe by going back and re-doing this you stumble along something that makes it faster/better. We can only hope, because it bites that you have to redo that part of the game. Good luck, and I am still looking forward to this.

My opinion : If Radix says again a big FAT NO, then you might consider doing the game again from segment 16, then send your run on archive.org. After, simply redo the entire run, step by step, when you have the time for it. Just take your time...It's not like you have a gun pointed on your face...

And like the other guy said, who know, you might have an even better time at the end.
King of hearts
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I would redo the run after a while though, because I don't want to play the game again so soon. Plus, I'll have my own run as a guide if I forget some things. But I'm really hoping to get it there now.

Well, good luck because either way, we are with you. I think everybody here would LOVe to see how the hell you managed that superb time Smiley
King of hearts
YES! It looks like I don't have to completely start over. I found a copy of the segment that I redid on another memory card. It's funny too because it's the latest save file I could continue from and it's the earliest save file I have, heh. It's a big setback, but at least I don't have to do the card battles or the Fastitocalon-F battles again, thank god... I'm still not going to finish this soon though. I'll complete this sometime next weekend or later because I want to work on FF X-2 and Kingdom Hearts to get my mind off FFVIII for a while.

I'm going to make sure I never make one of those stupid mistakes again!

Speedruns 4-ever...
Take your time!

I mean, have we waited this long for this, then we can wait a bit longer for it ! ! !

A run this big is worth the extra waiting time...

Hope that your other runs will go easyer than this Wink
