Congratulations Kart!

Since you managed to sub 7h 55m 00s I will congratulate you by supplying you with a new glitch, one that will help shave another 30s off of the final time. Check your PM! And for any one else reading this I'd suggest watching Karts stream if you're interested in learning what the glitch is Wink

And by the way, here is the Jessie Skip I was talking about during your stream.

And also, to keep the competition going and incite new and better times I will give out yet another new time saving glitch as a "prize" to the first one who subs 7h 50m 00s (PSX US/NTSC), gogogo Smiley

EDIT: No Slots

Does it have to be no slots? Wink
Ah, good point. Yes, No slots.
Kart for SMK, and Seven for FF7.
Ha ha, these skips are so nice ! Thank you for all these tips. Smiley I'd need to focus more on these kind of skips. As I'll go for an entire practice run on emu again, I'll pay more attention on each text box. Grin
A relatively small victory here but I finally got a complete run of disc 1 done at 4:46:27 in-game timer. Lots of room to improve but the new spider web/fury ring strat for demon's gate was particularly helpful. Also accidentally found a glitch in Costa Del Sol by menuing right as I was leaving causing me to go out of bounds past the exit switch. Almost definitely not useful but I couldn't test much since it happened in the middle of a run, I'll probably mess with it later though.
The glitch you mention is actually quite well-known.
If you open the menu just as you leave any field, you will not be brought to the adjacent screen but instead remain on the field. It is, as far as I can say, not helpful in any way because you are not really out of bounds but still on the map, just on the other side of the fade-out trigger, and you will have to go back to activate the trigger again.
I found this:

I initially thought it might be PC-only but I tested it on a PS emulator and it worked as well. So, just like the Midgar Skip, this seems to work on every single version of the game.
Wow, awesome find right there!
That is an awesome skip Kynos!!! Good Job =) I know that there is an invisible model on every cutscene, but could this be possible for other FMV's in the game?
Yeah, there is a party leader model on every field, however, most of the time, once cannot move it. I only found this by accident because I realized you could open the menu on that field at that point. There might be more of these skips but I don't know of an easy way to find them.
I found this:

Evidently, it is PC-only. However, unlike YW, it does not cause any NG+ implications as no pre-made save files are required. Still, it does cause a rift between SS and non-SS RTA speedruns for the PC version of FF7.
I realized that dying in the Fort Condor quest on Disc2 can actually be faster by up to 60 seconds than using the current strategy.

Man it's amazing how much stuff is being discovered in FF7 in just the last month or two.
Deal with it!
Yeah I agree, its really great seeing more and more things being discovered.
That's the power of the Keyyyblaaade
Pre-emptive congratulatory post! Cheesy Nice work, Kart!

Kart for SMK, and Seven for FF7.
That's funny to see Kynos' post because we were thinking about that a few days ago, but I never tried it. ^^ Nevermind, with 1 or 2 more skips, sub 7h45 will be reached, it's the next goal now.

Btw, I got 7:48:45 today, after a sleepless night !

BrutalAl, I ask for my "prize" lol. ^^
Congratulations Kart!

Check your PMs to collect on your prize Tongue
Is there a nice consolidated list of all known skips/glitches?
A lot of them are on BrutalAl's youtube, but it would be nice if there was a wiki or something
You could make a section on the knowledge base for Final Fantasy VII and document the skips/glitches there.
Found an easy 2 second time save in Icicle Inn. I'm not sure if it's known, but I haven't seen anyone do this myself.

Video:

You need to dodge Elenas attack to the right, hold on to the "Ele...Elena!?" dialogue, and then talk to the soldier as he run pasts you.

You can do some strange things with this paralysis dodge here, but it seems the loading trigger for snowboarding doesn't exist until you've collected the map and snowboard.

Actually, it's possible to leave the village, and make it impossible to beat the game (because you can't get back in)

Aww, boo - would have been quite nice to be able to skip directly to snowboarding after Elena.
Yeah, I was desperately trying to find a way. You get the same effect as though you opened the menu on the loading trigger line (you just kinda run past it and into an invisible wall)

It might be that the "Be careful!" dialogue is what actually causes the snowboarding to start, rather than running to the right place.
Kart for SMK, and Seven for FF7.
Finally got the sub 7:45 tonight (7:44:39) for the No Slots category !
http://www.twitch.tv/kartseven/c/4320591

It was my main goal so I'm really happy with it. Although 7:42 or even 7:41 looks possible with these current strats.
First
Congratulations to your 7:44:39 WR/PB Kart!

Second
I've had a brief look at the PC version (v1.0.7 English, played on Xerokynos' hardware) and compared it to the PSX version on PS2, Disc speed fast (played on Kartseven's hardware).
Since most runs today are ss/rta and measured in real-time I just looked at how fast both versions ran compared to real-time and simply ignored the in game-timer.

And apart from loading times being faster on the PC, the PC version also runs significantly faster in general, in fact about 1.1787 times faster. But this is only true for fields, which is where the vast majority of time is spent, but in battles (once a battle is loaded) there seems to be no significant difference between the two versions (and this is possibly true for the WorldMap as well).

So if you got yourself a PC time and want to know how it compares to a PS2 time (assuming most PC version run at the same pace on most hardware setups) you take the final time, subtract [time in non-fields] from the total time, and multiply what remains (I.e. [time in fields]) by 1.1787 and add back the [time in non-fields].

From here you would still have to add even more time, X sec*[number of battles], and Y sec*[number of field transitions] due to the faster loading times (and yes, the field transitions are still faster even though you just penalized every transition by a factor of 1.1787). I didn't time any of those events though and I'm not sure my old measurements still holds true for today's PC versions and hardware. So as far as loading times go we are still in the blind.

But we can make an assumption (the assumption being [loading times] = [time in non-fields]*1.1787) to give us a very rough but also simple way of converting PC time to PS2 time;
[PC Time] * 1.1787 = [PS2 Time].

In other words,
a PC time would have to be about 6:47:00 to compare to a sub 8hrs PS2 time.

And Last but definitely not least!
I want to see the WR (US/NTSC No Slots category) crawl down even further, so I'm putting up yet another Glitch Bounty!

The Glitch in question is a skip fairly similar to the Midgar exit skip (both in how simple it is to execute as well as in time saved), and while the category is "US/NTSC No Slots" the bounty will be given to a WR supplied in any of the following formats;
sub 07:42:30 US/NTSC.
sub 07:34:30 JINT/NTSC.
sub 06:32:30 PC English (given a similar setup to the one described above).

Happy Hunting Smiley
