Also I'm pretty sure there's an express rule about not modifying the ingame music.

But hell, I'm not a mod, so I recommend PM'ing somebody with more say in the matter and explaining exactly the nature of all of it.
Fucking Weeaboo
The difference between Suitless Samus and that PC mod is quite a difference.  Suitless Samus is actually a password built into the game, which is why it's allowed.  A PC mod is modification of a game and thus is not.

However you ARE welcome to use FF VII PC in and of itself though.

The rule you're thinking of was the one not to mix a video with custom music I think. Fiddling with the game code was never allowed, ever.

I definately want to see this run. Not for the speed, but because I want to see how the story unfolds. I've heard it had a great story to it, and hopefully for me, the cutscenes will be unskippable. Grin Grin Grin
(i've hardly played the game... are they?)

You really shoudn't do that.  Not only do you have to constantly pause the game to get what they're saying(which will be really annoying), but you can't control it.  There's some stuff that's extra and will tell you more about the story.

You should really just play the game yourself, it's not expensive(if you don't have it anymore) to get and quite fun to play.

Story in 5 lines.

Aerith dies.
Cloud gets angsty and emo.
Tifa has big boobs.
Sephiroth dies.
My name appears in the credits.

The end.

That was pretty well said, but Cloud doesn't wear any black, the polygons would go crazy.
!!!
No no, Sir VG was quite right. He goes emo and angsty and Tifa has large boobs, that about sums it all up. It's all in this YouTube presentation right here:

As long as its still readable, I don't mind.

I saw this already. IT WAS FREAKING HILARIOUS!!!

That topic appears to be one of the finest on gamefaqs.  It seems like several high quality professional style runners got together and decided to tear the game apart.  They're talking about stuff like whether its faster to rename various character to the first letter of their names to save seconds over the whole run.  They decided Cloud definately should be renamed to C(simply hit the delete key at the start to get rid of loud), and they haven't researched time saved on other characters.

Hate to sound like a mean old curmudgeon, but naming your PCs one character long is the oldest trick in the book, and most runs at bisqwit's and aresake's FF5 here already do that. I don't blame you for being amazed though; I think everyone is pretty impressed when they first hear about it.

What darkwasabi said, but keep in mind this is true for all games. People watching runs instead of playing the games makes me sad. Sad

Haha, that made me lol, but I can do you better and explain the story in 1 line!

Game indeed gets killed by Grandia.

Wait, that never happened...
Well, I'm not really a TAS kind of guy which means that I don't see a whole lot of RPG running where that would make any difference(not to mention more modern games seem to load long words as fast as short words).  I'm not absolutely stunned as it is a really good idea and something I've heard done in other games, but I was absolutely amazed that there would be multiple people at gamefaqs of all places working at that professional of a level.
While I don't mind the shortening of a character's name to one letter, it does take away some of the human aspect of speedrunning.

What do you mean?

I think what FO is saying is that, there's a reason why TAS's tend to use 1-character names and speedruns don't. That seems like something a cyborg would do, since it is faster and places speed over aesthetics. At SDA, many of our runners have pride in their playing ability, and this is one reason why they do things like input their own name. That and it personalizes things a little, especially in games with no default name.

Also, some people think "A: Hey B!" etc looks stupid, and it could get confusing trying to keep up. If that's even something to be concerned with anyway (see previous post).

I wish.  I don't know what "the human aspect of speedrunning" is, except maybe my characters bumping into the wall a lot in my FFV run.  Demanding that the characters in the game be named after you, at the cost of several seconds, is certainly "human;" in fact it's presumptuous and selfish.  Sometimes we should all aspire to be a little more like cyborgs.  Tongue

Aresake, I've said before that I would rather someone steal credit for my runs while uploading elsewhere or making a DVD, than to not have them spread at all. And I used to run games purely for myself before I knew there was any organized speedrunning. So you can probably guess my stance on this.

Anyway, I was trying to explain the other side, and you can probably tell I worded a couple things a little subtly. Tongue We actually had a discussion about this way back, and about specific runners too, and it was brought up that besides from pure ego, having your name always displayed is like a kind of watermark, to make it hard for someone to edit out the fact that you did it. As for the reason why you would care about that... well, everything is cyclical.

Then again, no matter which side you take, there are going to be some people for it and some against it, so it really is up to the runner. The worst reaction I can get out of it is rolling my eyes and chuckling, so not too bad. Tongue
I will knock you all down!
Well, after discussing and testing strategies for more than a year, the big day has finally come. Today, it's been exactly two years since I beat my last run and I'm going to celebrate that by starting the "ultimate final major perfect run".

Times and details will be posted here: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs9/genmessage.php?board=197341&topic=28291833

Just be aware that this run requires so much luck, patience and perfection that it might take a year to complete. It might even take days before I get to the first save point.
Good luck!

Very cool! Good luck, cause by the sound of it, you'll be needing it.  Smiley

I also wish a good luck. It is a good challenge, so maybe even a massive good luck  Grin

How long do you expect the run to stay on SDA before someone tries to best it?
Good luck, been looking forward to this one for a long time.
Just thought this topic needed a good bump.
