i did verify enough run already to know that Tongue

the run isnt even listed to ask to be verify so.. it's just to show support.
Never give up!
I don't think I've ever seen a verification request taken down as fast as the one for this game was.

The fact it was even ON the list is even more surprising for me.... unless absolutely every run goes to that list now rather than the admins discussing whether they have enough knowledge to verify on their own.
I predicted it would =P

I bet Mike's inbox is absolutely FLOODED =|
btw, Farringa, what are the specs on your computer and how did you have camtasia set up to record FFVII? I.E. What codec/settings did you use to record it in?
FFVII speed runned....a sub 8h....°_°
I can't wait...I must see that !! Well done Farringa !

"btw, Farringa, what are the specs on your computer and how did you have camtasia set up to record FFVII? I.E. What codec/settings did you use to record it in? "

I have:
AMD 64 3700+ (2.16 GHz)
2 Gigs of PC 3200 RAM
Radeon X800XT Platinum Edition (512 MB)
ASRock Mobo w/ Hyper Transport (AC97 Audio)
3 HDD's, totalling 280 GB
Windows XP SP2

I used the TechSmith Screen Capture Codec, and I believe that came with Camtasia. I recorded the stereo output, in audio options, and I had the bar between the first and second lowest dashes. I then set the capture rate to 30 FPS. In order to get the FPS on the videos up, I had to turn off hardware acceleration (I turned off all Direct-X Acceleration... FFVII didn't need it any way). I also put the resolution for FFVII on the lowest setting, because on the higher resolution, it screws up the in-game clock. This is the description I got from Camtasia:

Video Codec:      TechSmith Screen Capture Codec
Audio Codec:      PCM (uncompressed audio)
Audio Format:      22050Hz, 16 Bit, mono, 44KB/s

I recorded in Mono, because I believe that's all FFVII puts out...

Oh, and I will be mailing the run to Nate on Monday. Mikwuyma just gave the his address on Thursday, and I was gone, watching my sister in-law graduate since Thursday afternoon. But I will put it in the mail on Monday.

Hah, that explains why I'm at around 3 hours just getting out of Cosmo Canyon in my attempt at a low level game...

And I can't believe I didn't think of lower resolution before when recording, because the actual video is lagging for some reason. I'm running a C2D (Crash 2 Desktop amirite?) 2.4 GHz and the actual recording comes out at 15 FPS for some lame reason. Such is compared to the actual game which is getting a (near) fluid ~50 FPS when I have Camtasia running. Since that lag is rather nasty looking, I decided to source out to my DVD recorder instead =P

EDIT: btw, those were the specs on my last computer. Great machine, but fried a year later when I took it to a LAN party =[

I ... just ... can't believe it!!!

I waited and waited for this run. And know it is so real, so close at hand Grin

Oh! I just can't wait (to be king - quote Simba :P)

And the package is in the mail. I sent it out this morning. Sorry about the delay... Mikwuyma didn't get me Nate's address until Thursday, and my wife and I were visiting my parents for a couple days, so I couldn't send it out. But it's in the mail and on it's way!!

Farringa, I hope you didn't already answer this question: Why are you using Tifa ? Cloud is the hero and he is very strong, Caith Sith got a killing Limit Break but....why is Tifa so special ?

Everybody knows she got very very bigs $ù£ù but she is a character rather weak at the beggining of the game (low Def, low Str, low Mgc...) and her Limit Break can only be efficient with a lot of training (something that can't be done in a speed run).

So, WHY ?
I don't say you are stupid (you can't be stupid, you make an impressive run ^^) but this is ME who really don't understand. Maybe I will find some answers by watching your run ^^.
I will knock you all down!
Because Tifa's Powersoul is a very powerful weapon.

From my FAQ:

Q: We use Tifa to deal major damage in pretty much every battle starting Red
Dragon. Why is she able to deal so much damage with the Powersoul?

A: Because of the weapon's mechanics. When you check the weapon in the menu, it
says that it deals more damage when near-death, but she also deals more
damage if she's under Death Sentence. It works like this:

  Critical (yellow) HP: 2x damage
  Death Sentence: 4x damage
  Deathblow: 2x damage

Together, that's 16 times normal damage. Deathblow also ignores back row, so
it's 32 times back row damage. Awesome, huh? And in addition, we equip her
with armor and accessories to boost her strength. This is what makes Tifa
  the ultimate killing machine.
Wow, I didn't knew that !
Now it's easy to undestand why Farringa used her...

Thank for the answer !
Don't forget the Added Cut GarlandG. With the Added Cut it's  24 times the regular damage (with a damage limit that can surpass 9999  8))

Behold, GarlandG, BrutalAl (and Lolo26). They are the true masters of FFVII. I've merely put their vision, into video form, with some slight modifications of my own. You can read all about it in my comments once the run is SDA, or directly from:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/file/197341/31141

Almost every question you have can be answered by the above link.

Added Cut do that....°_°...
Wow, I thought I were a good player but that were very useful "secrets" that I never heard about.

Did you know that the PAL version of FFVII sucked (cause of bad translations) ?
Explanation: I never understood the use of the Materia "Added Cut" named in french "Coupure Supplementaire" if I remember well. The "in game" explanation of this materia (and other ones) never allows me to understand their use...And NOW, I see people using thing I thought were useless...

You know, you are pretty lucky to have NTSC versions for your games -_-...(even if nowadays, translators are better than before).

By the way, I'm going to check how to efficiently use "Added Cut" now.
Thanks a lot guys.

EDIT: I checked some video of yours on YouTube, my nickname there is Maxelya.
give me your eyes!!!
The one that always confused me was 'mime', I was younger then so I could probably understand now if only I could remember... I recall my cousin beating up Ruby with some bizarre mime setup and when I came to try it I couldn't work it out.

Great job with the run! I'm sure I've played through ffvii at least 5 times so it'll be great to see it pushed to its limits.
I will knock you all down!
My second segment is up!

I wasn't going to save after Guard Scorpion, but I just had to. Otherwise, I never would have completed that segment. Hopefully, the next segment will follow shortly. That's up to the save point in reactor 5, in case you don't know.
Good job, your battle seems perfect. But like said Farringa, saving take a LOT of time on Playstation.
This is not all, their is also the loadings between the map and battles; on PS, we gat a long black screen wheareas on the Farringa's PC version, battles start immediately. At long term, it will make your times very different :/.

Well, that remember me that Farringa's run isn't already posted on SDA -_-...I really want iiiiit.

Besides GarlandG, do you aim at realizing a sub 8h on the PS version ? I wish you good luck (cause of loadings...).
I'll follow your progress.
He's going to lose his marbles around Rocket Town. Watch him.

Does any one know if they update you on the verification process? Like, do they e-mail you when it's accepted, or rejected, or when they are starting the verification process, or when they receive the run, etc.? Or am I going to just be waiting for the run to be posted like everyone else?

EDIT:

Oh, and I guess I forgot to post this when we figured it out, but my final time for the entire game, after Sephiroth himself was beating, was ~ 7h 40m 55s game time. To figure this out, you start a stop watch from the last time visible in the menu (after Jenova-SYNTHESIS). From there, you use real time, but convert it to game time, after the last human controlled part (after you see the damage hit on Sephiroth). This is then converted to game time (10:00 minutes of game time is 10:12 of real time, on the PC version). So...

Final Save 7:28:51

Before Bizarro Sephiroth: 7:33:23

Started stopwatch from that exact time.

Bizarro Sephiroth beaten + 2:06
Safer-Sephiroth beaten + 4:36
Sephiroth himself beaten + 7:41

Final time, after beating Sephiroth himself: 7:41:04

Adjusting time to match game clock time: - 0:09

Final Time: 7:40:55

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I'm fairly certain SDA isn't going to do any mathematical conversions.  Smiley  Unless the timer is completely broken,
they'll just accept it - look at the Max Payne videos, there's 2 seconds taken off for each enemy killed, and they still use it.  Then they'll just add the time.  It's close enough that it's hardly noticeable - heck, I bet there are a bunch of games on here that are off by more than that, but nobody took out a stopwatch and figured the exact ratio.  Grin

Which mean the final time could be 7:42 :(.  Kind of a bad break...
Haters gonna hate
They'll tell you if it's rejected.  If it's accepted, you'll know when it's posted.
Everything's better with Magitek
Usually, the way they time RPG's is they take the final game time that's shown, then round that up to the next minute (not sure if they do this if seconds are shown in-game), then time the rest in real time and add that to it.

And yeah, for the verification process, they'll let you know if there's a problem or if it's rejected; otherwise, you can assume that things are fine.

They round it up to the next minute? That's a shame. I don't understand why they don't include seconds. They really should.

Someone asked if I was aiming for a sub-8 time, but I don't know if that's possible with the PS version. We'll see.
With Cait Sith I think Ultimania was able to do it in about 7:30 iirc.
