You could always edit the video into say, 30 or 60 minutes of the most interesting stuff and comment over that.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Hell yes to the audio commentary! I loved this run, and I bet there's a TON of cool info you could give out that wouldn't even come to your mind until you actually got immersed in the commentary yourself Tongue

Yep! I readed the hole thread, and this thread really LIVES!!!!!!!!<3

Yes. I would want to hear your commentary to this run Smiley

You coudln't have to do it on one sitting; you can do about 30 mins and continue from it etc... =) I would want to hear it Essentia!
Yep yep yep!
I'd certainly be interested in a commentary.  I love audio commentaries on speedruns in general, and a commentary would only serve to add even more awesomeness to your already awesome run.

Well, after seeing all the interest in this, I most likely will do a commentary, although I might split it up into sections.  (Just because the run was SS doesn't mean the commentary has to be also, right? ;))  I'm just getting over a cold, though, so it'll be a little while before I do it because I don't want to sound all stuffed up.

I was watching some of my run yesterday, and I found a lot of things to talk about.  I also found that the hardest spots to find material for are during the cutscenes, but I've got some ideas for those, such as my motivation for doing this run, previous run attempts and plans that failed, and explaining how some of the glitches I used work (like Reverse Joker Doom--I kind of explained it in my comments, but I'm not sure I did a very good job).  I don't know if it'll be very funny; I can make my husband laugh, but we both sometimes have weird senses of humor. Wink

Heh, I never really thought about doing commentary for FFIX.  For some reason, if I did one, I could see myself saying over and over, "This screen was a pain to get through with no encounters!"

Nah, the segmented run is just crap. Smiley

Good job, Essentia! Destroyer of Final Fantasies!

Yeah, I know it's an old quote, but I just wanted to mention that BalnabZ actually put together a very solid WoB run. You see it nearly duplicated in Essentia's run, save for some changes in preparation for Kefka, and a couple of tricks in the scenarios.

The WoR of course is quite different because BalnabZ likely didn't know about reverse Joker Doom. After all, it's not really documented anywhere right now, except on this site.

Anyway wanted to point that out, as any indication that any run on this site is "crap" really undermines the verification process and misses the point that even one new trick can lead to dozens of timesavers which eventually add up to a half hour plus of improvement.

Can't wait for the commentary!

So... How is the cold?

I was being somewhat inaccurate when I made that post, you know. Still, I understand your point. I don't think the old run was 'crap' no more than, say... TSA's old Ocarina of Time run was 'crap'. New tricks bring new knowledge, but there were some pretty silly things in the old run, AFAIR.

It's gone now.  I've been pretty busy lately with other things, though, so I haven't gotten to this yet.  I will do it, don't worry. Smiley

About the old run: It was planned well, since he didn't know about some of the tricks I used, but some of the execution could have been better (especially menu stuff, but I guess I'm really picky about that).  There were also a few instances that could have used a little luck manipulation, like Relm missing when she sketched Ultros.  (That also happened in my run, but I don't think it should have happened in a segmented run.)

I take it my Scheherazade and Willow runs make you absolutely cringe, then. :| Seriously, menu manipulation is easily my weakest point (Which could reasonably cause you to ask "Then why run games that require it extensively?"). Oh well.

Well, MT, the Japanese contact here at SDA, just asked me the other day about submitting my FFVI run to Ultima Garden, since I beat their RTA (real-time attack) time by about 15 minutes.  I was a little confused at first about how Ultima Garden times the RTA runs, and this is what MT said:

Quote:
The rule of RTA is "measuring the actual time (Real Time) required for playing the whole game from the beginning till the ending" with a stopwatch(video timer, etc...). You can make savings in the middle of the game as many as you like. But if you repeat many times for the risky segment just waiting for good luck, it eventually takes longer time, because even during those *reset the game* time is also counting as the *result time*by the stopwatch. So, the notion of "RTA" is... establishing the *safe&fast* strategy for beating the game. To play long games (such as FF12), you might even need to think about when you eat and when you go to the bath room.

Unfortunately, according to this definition, the time I took in between tape switches should also be counted.  I don't know exactly how long I took, but I know it was more than 15 minutes total.

Anyway, now that I have a DVD recorder and won't need to switch tapes, I've been considering redoing this run so I can submit it to Ultima Garden.  I know of a few small improvements to my run and just getting better luck with the fish part could save 2 minutes, so I might even be able to improve my time.  However, I must admit that it got pretty lonely while working on this last time.  If I were to do it again, I'd kind of like to do it in a public setting somehow.  I don't know exactly how I'd go about doing this, and I don't know if anyone would even be interested in seeing me run this live, but I'd like to hear what other people think about it.
Waiting hurts my soul...
You could setup a streaming voice chat where people could log in, talk, and you could talk to them without drawing too much attention from running.  Other than that, going to a live event and getting a bunch of people to watch would be another option, though I don't have any idea how to set something like that up.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
werent speedgamers going to do an ff marathon? that's as public as it gets i think
berserker status
It'd be nice to see another FFVI single segment that's for sure!  Glad to see you're improving your old record.  Too bad i got no real advice to contribute  Undecided
Let the music play!

Yep thats coming up in a couple of months. The next one is an Earthbound Marathon happening on the 15th May.

I'd be definitely interested in watching a live stream run of FF6, I consider it the best of the series.
If you did a video stream of this i'd definitely watch it.  This is my favorite RPG speed run of all time!

Okay, it sounds like a bunch of people would be interested in a live stream.  I don't really know much about streaming, though.  Is there an easy way to do it?
What do you have to work with? You want to use a webcam, or a capture card? Also, what kind of machine are you running?
Everything's better with Magitek
Right now I don't have either a webcam or capture card, but I've been wanting to get a webcam for a while, so I'd probably go with that.  I was just looking at ustream, and it seems like it would be pretty easy to set up a stream with a webcam there.
I don't know much about webcams personally, having only had two, neither of them running at over 30 FPS. Naturally, both of them are really laggy when streaming live.
I would definately watch it. Id make myself really comfortable with a nice cup of tea or so and a blanket in front of my computer ^^. But i dont know whether teamspeak is such a good idea. i think it would be pretty distracting. maybe you could just switch it on during tape changes or boring segments.  besides: what are you going to do if you screw up halfway in? start again?
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
ustream with a webcam would be perfect for this. You get to have the feeling that people are watching you and cheering you on, without the distraction of something like Teamspeak. The best part is since this is a RPG, lag for the viewers won't matter much at all. Of course people will understand if you can't get it on your first attempt, and those who can't make it there can see the ustream recording long before the run would get on SDA. Here is a recording from Tiki, who has been broadcasting his Mega Man X runs. (Don't worry, this clip is not him swearing at MMX, it's just him playing piano. ;D)
Undecided hm. so...what?
Everything's better with Magitek
Sorry, still working things out for this.  The biggest problem is finding a 6+ hour period of time that is available for both my husband (so he can watch our little girl) and me.  I'll also need to practice the run, because I'm pretty rusty at speedrunning this game right now.  I'll definitely post when I get things worked out, though.
ah k :).
