Hey there, really excited about seeing a run on this, and I have come up with some suggestions to make the run better.
1. Try to be more exact on movement, it looks really sloppy when a set of stairs gets missed.
2. I would think it would be much faster to level off of metal slimes and avoid all other fights.
3. Along with #2, you should be using holy waters all the time and I don't see that at all.
4. You don't seem to be optimizing your seed usage. I would think that every little bit counts and you should be trying to squeeze as much out of the seeds as you can.
I can't continuously use holy waters because I can't afford them, nor will they work most of the time since I am underleveled, and as for missing stairs it didn't really cost any time. The segments are long and you cannot expect them to go error free because it just wont happen. Also a lot of the bosses take forever if you aren't leveled high enough such as Khalimari. Seeds that are extremely important are maximized. Mainly the defense one at the beginning.
Also please note that this is probably a test run and not the actual run I would like to submit.
Also, you can't get to metal slimes until (at the very earliest) the Ruined Abbey, and even then it's far too random to expect an actual kill; realistically you can only start hunting them when you get to the Riverside Chapel.
Avoiding random encounters is why I advocate raising Courage for the Hero and Fisticuffs for Yangus; however, his run is just at the point where he's gonna make the choice to go with my advice... or his own. :p
I have already gone with my own. I fought 1 metal slime which I killed in the ruined abbey to get to 11 and made the fight against the Tortured Soul extremely easy. I am now a few kills off from 15 and will be headed to the cave soon since I have already done everything needed in Ascantha. Current time is 2:49 which is almost an hour faster than the time for the speedrun on GameFaqs. I am also using different strategy then what he used so it will be much faster later.
Edit: I added segments 7-12 on youtube for those that are interested. Some of them have audio commentary so that you can understand what is going on.
Sorry it has been a while since I dug into this stuff. i don't recall psyching up in my khalamari fight but your solution obviously works. I guess as long as you are aware of the issues involved then it isn't really sloppy, I was just affording my opinions from a cursory glance. If you are beating the speed guide I congratulate you as it was rather tough for me to stay on par with it.
I appreciate the criticism. This is a test run however so it is not the run that will be submitted. I know there are thing that I need to fix so I am not really worried about all the minor things I do wrong. However if I am missing something that will take far less time I would greatly appreciate it.
I am now to where I need to farm slimes again to level 30, but I am having trouble getting them to appear or stay. I have already made about 50 attempts and really haven't seen that many slimes (probably about a total of 5) which sucks. If anyone has any suggestions or knows something that I don't to make them appear more often please inform me =)
Yeah, I've seen your struggles with that on th youtube channel. I wish you the best, but man I hate XP farming for slimes. Good luck, looking forward to the next segments!
You are wrong, we are a lot who are interested by your pre-run ^^
i think you already know it but here are the bingo odds:
x400: 0.03764% or 1/2656.5 x200: 0.1694% or 1/590.3 x100: 0.4705% or 1/213.5 x50 : 1.035% or 1/96.6 x25 : 1.973% or 1/50.7 x10 : 3.068% or 1/32.6 x5 : 5.450% or 1/18.3
(taken from gamefaqs, the 3 first odds are correct but the other are false (not by a lot) maybe i'll edit with the correct values one day)
Trying to decide on the route I will take from here but this is what I am planning (not really the route just the order of what to go to and when)
-Hop back on boat and sail to Baccarat -Enter and exit to get zoom, head to Chateau and do the same -Storyline in Baccarat, travel back to Dark ruins -Zoom to Chateau (possibly do the quest if timing is right, I do plan on doing it at some point) and get a tiger -Head to Mystic spring and pick 1st needed seed of skill -Head to Argonia and save
Wait...you need to do a sidequest to open the casino right? Because I was thinking, you could do some gambling in Baccarat to get some good gear ahead of the power curve. Get stuff like the Falcon Sword, etc. But even still, you still need a good chunk of starting capital to win at roulette quickly.
You could still gamble in Pickham but I don't think you can get any good weapons there. (good armour in Dragon Quest games is useless, a solo playthrough in Dragon Warrior III using the Noh Mask will prove this)
No, I am not buying anything else through the rest of the game and I am also done with what I had posted before...if you guys really are interested in the run I could use some help but considering the lack of actual help I am getting I doubt I will gain any useful information here. Nothing against you guys, just seems like most of the people interested in the run are people that enjoy the game and not people that are looking to help.
Anyway I am currently in Rydon's tower and I am trying to figure out how to do the "glitch" consistently. For those that don't know, the "glitch" is pushing the statue onto the platform and going with it to the bottom floor. This prevents you from having to run all the way around back down the stairs and then past the same statue you pushed onto the platform. This can be done 4 times probably saving close to 2 minutes. I can only do it consistently on 2 of the 4 (the first two are the ones giving me trouble). So if anyone is actually willing to help me figure it out, it would be GREATLY appreciated.
Regardless thank you guys for your continued support.
sorry can't offer any help on the statue stuff except for what you already know prolly, but I think coming in at an angle is important, because you push the statue at block size intervals.
Sorry I can't help you bro, at least, with anything other than support. I hope you're able to keep up the stamina to finish the run, and sorry you're having problems with getting proper help.
It's alright... after about 6 hours of practice I was able to master the statues except for the 2nd one (requires too much adjusting to be useful). I am now just having problems getting lucky against Jessica. I will probably upload the Dhoulmagus fight after I get the Jessica segment done. After Jessica we are off to our final leveling point.
