Ruling the cosmos!

Do people run this game, I see nothing anywhere about it, I need to know. If you do, and feel lonely about being the only person that runs it, I will talk to you about it, as little as I know about the game, considering I've only played through it once. But I need to know, it sounds like it'd be a pain to run.

The biggest problem is DS capture, which is ridiculously expensive, so good luck finding video. But, Japan does run this game. Here is the leaderboard:

It's considerably shorter than 7 or 8. So not as much of a pain to run, and you get to juke around enemies. If you get DS capture, or the wii u releases it on VC, I'm tuning in.

It's a lot of abusing magic early on and grinding metal slimes a LOT. I haven't seen a whole run yet though, as there really aren't that many active runners, and the runners that have been active have switched to other games for now.

Ah, that would explain it. Well, I can't be bothered to route a seven hour RPG, but if anybody else that speaks English gets more into this, I might hop on that train with them, the game's pretty good (though I've only actually played through it once)

It's all about the PLATINUM Slimes. And Metal King Slimes to a lesser degree. And finding a map deep enough in to let you find these and grind the shit out of them.

Great game, even if it felt weird never playing 7 or 8... and I have my DQ Promo shirt from California, so am happy.

Been a very long time since I picked it up. I think it was last year... still have to...Revocate a few times.

Best of luck if you run it though. Dragon's Den has a LOT of information that will be of assistance.

For a speed run, one wouldn't be able to use maps.

But the fact there are visible enemies and metal slimes in the third major dungeon helps things a lot.

So all of y'all seemed to think that I was interested in running this, so now I feel obligated to. But it's intimidating, so I need a partner to help me learn it (I also posted about this in the casual speedrunning board https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/dragon_quest_ix2.html)

I wouldn't know exactly, but I'll plan to find out soon, I should start routing it pretty soon, though that's currently stopped by Shovel Knight. What I plan to be using is Minstrel, Priest, Warrior, and Mage. I would use Gladiator, but having to unlock might waste a lot of time, and it would hold me back in the early game, he wouldn't be useful for a while.
