Thanks to Jimbo for the strategy on 7-B.  This was a practice run that turned into a real run.  If someone else wants to improve upon it and submit to the IL table, be my guest as I hate this stage.

Last night I was able to improve Bobbing Basalt by a bit over 1 second.  It's one of the most difficult stages in the game.

this is amazing did you find this by accident?
it saves a lot of time
and yeah would be cool if you running this game again, i really want to racing you
do you have a stream setup at all?

I do have a capture card now (it came today), but I won't be setting it up until the weekend so that's when I'll have a stream setup.

Also, I found a new strategy on 1-B, but I think this will be limited to ILs only since it's quite tough to pull off and doesn't save a huge amount of time.

EDIT: Updated run implementing the same strategy in the second phase of the fight as well as the first.

Nice find there Jimbo.  I have my doubts about phase 3, but hopefully I can be proven wrong.

New ending to Sloppy Sands allows for Sub 1:03 times (my best is 1:03.05)

A much improved (luck filled) 3-B Ruined Roost run.  I'll probably try some more to see if I can manipulate where the boss goes to get more chances.  Maybe I can shave of 3-4 frames.
This is a bit later than expected as I've been really busy for the past couple of weeks, but I finally have my capture card and streaming capabilities. My streaming channel is http://www.twitch.tv/jimbo_xd, but I'm not sure when I will stream.

Just to show that I am starting to work on an any% run for this game now, I recorded a run of the first four worlds. There are some silly mistakes in this run but it's decent enough considering I hadn't played most of the levels in a while (funnily enough it's 34 seconds faster than my old any% PB at this point). It also shows that you don't need to grind anywhere to have enough coins for the keys.

oh nice run, finally you have a capture card cool Smiley

and your strats are really close to packattacks ILs

i don´t know if i come down to this time but you can pm on twitch or write here in sda if you want to race if you have time

keep it up thumbsup
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Really sick stuff JXD, only half way through, and you're already 1:25 ahead of my PB. I'll see what I can pick up from your runs to improve my time. And as Ecko said, we should all race this when we have the chance.
Good job JXD! T didn't play the game since a lot of time, but I'm very impatient to see your any% run.
Yeah we should all race this at some point. I have much more free time over the next week or two so hopefully I'll be attempting some any% runs very soon. I'll also try to be on SRL when I can.

yeah thats cool man this weekend or next week would be really cool, i have to ask spikevegeta again

but the main problem is the timezone but we will see
I've been trying some any% runs for the last few days and after several resets I managed to finish a run, getting a new time of 1:30:50 with 2 deaths. A quick breakdown of the run:

Jungle - Very good, only 1 second off my best world time here.
Beach - Good apart from failing both crab jumps in 2-1 (I very rarely fail the second one).
Ruins - Okay, but I didn't get lucky at the boss so I lost several seconds there.
Cave - Not much to say here.
Forest - Died in 5-3 and nearly died in 5-4, otherwise good.
Cliff - Reasonable, mistakes started to creep in here and I messed up 6-6 quite a lot.
Factory - Not too bad, made mistakes in the switch levels but the boss didn't troll (I nearly threw it away going for the double hit strat though).
Volcano - Forgot how to roll jump in 8-1, really retarded death in 8-2, the rest was good and I had pretty good luck at the final boss (I thought I might get the perfect pattern in the second phase but it didn't happen).

If I cut out the deaths and got a cleaner run overall I could get sub 1:30, so I think that will be my overall target. I have the run recorded, so if anyone wants me to upload it I will, but I will try to improve it sometime in the future.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Would love to watch it if you feel like uploading it

Ok so here's the video of my 1:30:50 run:

great i will watch this on sunday
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Really sick run dude, inspiring to watch. Ecko and I will have to get a lot better, but races should still happen between the three of us and others. Best of luck on cutting the 1:30!
Excellent job! Oo
DS Dictator
So the 3DS version is going to be out in over a months time and Nintendo has posted some new information about the 3DS version including exclusive features.

Notable changes will be highlighted in bold text

Quote:
Go ape with the swingin’ king of the jungle! Donkey Kong and his simian sidekick Diddy Kong are back for more action-packed platforming antics in Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, an enhanced version of Wii adventure Donkey Kong Country Returns, only on Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL!

Jump, race and roll your way across Donkey Kong Island on a quest to rescue DK’s beloved banana hoard from the trouble-causing Tiki Tak Tribe. Stomp on enemies, grab banana bunches and ride rockets, rhinos and much more in classic 2D platforming gameplay, stuffed full of spectacular scenes and tricky traps. Use both characters’ special skills to overcome all kinds of obstacles and explore each stage to the full – hop Diddy onto DK’s shoulders and use his Barrel Jet to hover them both over large gaps, or roll to your heart’s content and trample everything in your path.

Keep ‘em peeled for collectibles as you tear through the jungle, across beaches and beyond. Grab the letters that spell out K-O-N-G and nab puzzle pieces hidden in each stage to unlock extra content, like super-tough Trophy levels. Unlock and conquer every one of these special stages and a brand new surprise awaits!

Take on the whole game together as the terrific twosome, DK and Diddy, by teaming up with a friend in Local Play. Pelt opponents with Diddy’s Peanut Popgun and hover using his Barrel Jet, or slam bad guys into submission with Donkey Kong’s Ground Pound. The big guy can even do a Barrel Roll!

You can play the adventure exactly as you remember it in Original mode, but if the chimpy challenge gets the better of you, help is at hand. New mode makes the going just a little easier, giving Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong three hearts each instead of the usual two, letting them Kong-a for longer! Spend your hard-earned Banana Coins on helpful items from Cranky Kong’s shop, and pick up new items that help save you from falls, allow the Mine Cart and Rocket Barrel to take a second hit, and even let you use a DK Barrel whenever you like.

Join Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong and the rest of the gang in a classic 2D platformer, now playable on-the-go!

Discover brand new content created just for Nintendo 3DS

Play the whole adventure with a nearby pal in Local Play!

So yeah, motion-less rolls and an optional 'easy' difficulty sounds like alternate category.

Hi guys. I also run this game! I was just  (offline) running simultaneously with race between Spike and Ecko. I was close to Ecko all the time.  Spike was 1 level ahead during the last few levels on me. I catched up and I was only a few seconds behind Ecko when entering Tiki Tong rocket level. Spike was unlucky during Red Red Rising if I'm correct.

cool, another person who run this game and you will run this game at ESA right?

with the race spike was really good in the middle of the run, actually he could have win this race but Red Red Rising trolls him right

but maybe we can race sometime (you, spike, me, and maybe JXD)

Thanks for the welcome words Ecko. Yes that is me. Unfortunate I don't have streaming equipment and my PC is really old (7 years or something). I sometimes do stream with friends but I have to travel for it. I did a run on stream I think 3 or 4 weeks ago. Spike was indeed pretty strong in the middle of  the game. I was pretty far behind in world 6, but catched up at Switcheroo. My final time was 1:42:54 I died 7 times in total. I do have to walk to my computer to hit the split button, But I start at player 1 instead of new game.

^Thanks!!I haven't watched Jimbo's vid but it didn't go unnoticed when I checked this thread. I love to find out my own strategies. For me this is half the fun. So that's why I'm pretty conservative with regard to watching video's. However, I had to verify that Jimbo had indeed 1:30:xx. So I used the mouse to slide over the timebar and while the video was running I noticed it was very impressive of what I saw of it.  I'm thinking of watching video's when I reach the point where I have no idea anymore how to improve. At the very least I want to find out most of the strategies myself, although it takes a bit longer as a result.
