It's been a while, but I've been doing some any% attempts of this game for the past few days and I managed to improve my best time tonight to 1:30:15. I'm not done with this yet though as the run had 3 silly deaths and I was even going to reset after world 1 due to mistakes, but as the split was reasonable I carried on. All of the deaths were fairly soon after checkpoints so none of them cost a huge amount of time.

I have this run recorded and can upload if need be but I plan on trying to improve this over the weekend.
That would be pretty cool, I'd love to see where you're at JXD, I'm really looking forward to the finished product.
1-Up!

Here's the video of the 1:30:15 run (sound goes slightly out of sync unfortunately):

The execution in this run was generally pretty good with some really bad parts (second half of world 6 in particular). I plan on reviewing the strategies in some of the levels before trying to improve further.

Hi guys. Where do you start and end your game for a full run? At "new game" or "1 player". Also why. I usually started from 1 player because thats when the game starts. I end when Donkey smashes the red button inside Tiki tong seen in the animation. I split after each world when donkey hits a tiki  because thats where you lose control.

Also is there any knowledge whether or not the wii mote has disadvantages compared to mote + nun chuck. I'm left handed and my brain somewhat refuses to steer with my right hand. but holding the wii mote in my right hand makes it even worse. In addition I love NES control style!
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
That's where I start/stop my timer. I think others might start the timer from New Game though.

For control styles, I prefer Nunchuck, as does JXD and PackAttack, but others insist Classic style is the way to do it. I don't know, I think it's just personal preference though.

Thanks SpikeVegeta. I did a few tries from "new game" but if at least someone else starts from "1 player" I go back to that again because the game starts from there. Also good luck with the practicing for SGDQ!

Great stuff Ecko! I was already curious how it was going. I saw on your twitch channel, that you were working on it and your plans! I might check it out later, but as you know I focus on my own strategies for my any% run as much as possible first, thought that does not mean I do not appreciate your or others work. I especially like when people deviate from what others do and venture their new ideas. I think a 100% run is pretty interesting. a 2h30m seems very fast. For now I stick to any%. Also because I want to do some casual gaming soon. Play some rpg's and stuff like that, games that I like but do not bother to speedrun. Then sometimes you are speedrunning a game without actually planning it but it somehow evolved in it. I'm happy that I'm not entirely alone with DKCR and other people enjoy it as much as I do!
Been playing this game again recently and I managed to get a deathless run today (finally) and this resulted in a new PB of 1:30:03. This run was fairly good execution-wise and I had a pretty good lead over my previous PB after world 6 (about 51 seconds), but then I got trolled heavily on 7-B (horrible first phase as well as no double/triple hits) and lost most of it. I also got trolled on 8-B, but not nearly to the same degree as I did on 7-B.

I have a bit more free time over the next couple of weeks so I'll try to improve and hopefully get the run that I want, but it's getting to the point where the last two bosses are going to have a big say as to whether that happens or not Angry

awesome jxd, the first deathless run of this game good job

keep up the good work and best of luck for sub 1:30

can´t wait to see it Smiley
Congrats dude, sorry to hear about the boss issues, but seriously, deathless is quite the feat.  I look forward to seeing how far you can push the game.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
You are a beast JXD. Sorry those bosses are such trolls, I understand.
<(^_^)>
what. a deathless urn? :O
Just got a new PB and the sub-1:30 with a time of 1:29:39 Smiley I'm really pleased with this run as the general execution was really good (worlds 1-6 as a whole were very strong), even though I died once. The only 'bad' levels in the run were Switcheroo (where I died), Music Madness, Bobbing Basalt, and the final boss (got bad luck but it could have been worse).

I'll probably try for improvements for a little bit longer, but it's going to be really frustrating as 7-B can destroy runs by itself (I've had potential sub-1:30 runs ruined by that stupid chicken). I'll upload the videos of the deathless 1:30:03 and the new run very soon.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
congratz on the first sub-1:30 JXD, can't wait to watch it.
DK + Mario Kart 8 = <3
congrats jxd
Wooooooow that's insane.
Here's the video of the 1:29:39 run:

I think I'm going to try a little bit more for improvements, but it's getting to the point where if the world 7 boss decides to troll, it's likely that I'm not going to PB, especially as my first 6 worlds as a whole were very good (world 6 was a best split, worlds 1 and 5 were very close to my best splits and world 2 was also good).
Wow, sick watch! Congrats! Not sure if I've ever actually gotten a perfect pattern in any run from the 7-B boss.

Hi. I noticed or have the feeling that Donkey sometimes moves faster when he grabs the grass on vertical walls. I notice this especially in the stages sloppy sands and King of Cling (stage 1-2). Anybody got an idea and if so how this works? Especially for stage 1-2 it would be really nice, because I often miss  that first cycle of the spinning wheels. I often just reset when I don't get it, but many times I get in that reset habit in that stage, which is annoying and a waste. I hope someone can help me out.
The key to getting through the vertical grass sections much faster is to hold a diagonal direction (up + the direction DK is facing) while climbing. But when you transfer from one vertical grass wall to another, you don't want to hold a diagonal direction as you move across much slower and it will take longer to get back up to speed again. For example, the ideal inputs for the vertical grass section at the beginning of 2-5 would be: up-right, up then jump across, up-left, up then jump across, right.

Hopefully this is a clear enough explanation.
