I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
You died on the barrel stage?

*tries to laugh but cannot due to the unusual nature of his body [o o]*

I can't wait for the "Uncut" DVD version.
Now a hit show on the CW
I did a test run when Suzaku started this topic, just to try to compare some of my times to his. A blooper in my run through was on one of the Iceberg levels: I jumped on top of a walrus and apparently hit it at such an angle that the game decided I was falling... while standing on the walrus. After a couple of seconds I moved to the side and died, since I had been "falling" that whole time.

Could you have jumped instead of moved?  That could be a weird bug.  You die in mid-air Smiley

Will there be an .avi version of this movie soon before Radix publishes it?

That was one of the things you've said that made me chuckle :P. And for the run, good job on completing this, Suzaku. I'll try to be the first one to watch this (other than the verifyer that is). Good work Wink

I just don't get it.  How did he die on the barrel stage?

I finally sent out this run. I would have sent it earlier, but I guess I wanted to give Radix a break... yeah, that and cuz I'm lazy as hell. Anyway, it's going to Texas.

Argh! I was under the impression that you had already sent it and it was just hung up in the queue somewhere >_< Now I'm going to have to wait even longer! (j/k Wink )

I just don't get it.  How did he die on the barrel stage?

I don't think he literally meant that he died on every stage, just practically every stage. Still, the barrel stage (I'm assuming you're talking about the first level) is a little more complex when you're backflipping up the middle. It's possible that mistiming the jumps would lead to winding up in DK's line of fire at an inopportune time.

Sorry to get your hopes up, Arrow. ^^
No, I didn't die on the first stage. What I meant was that I screwed up hard enough that I had to restart a segment on each stage. I know for a fact I didn't die on the first level. The second, third and fourth, however....

I'm addicted to games
Can someone do me a huge favor?

I need to know if this game displays the Super Game Boy fast behavior. There's a slight chance that because this game was designed for SGB, that it runs at the right speed. I've only ever played it at SGB so there's no way for me to know if it's fast or not. Basically someone who has the game, plus SGB and a normal GB or GBA/GBP, play it in both. Just go to a world map, record the music for 5-10 minutes and compare the results.

I guess if nobody has done it within a week I'll have to do it myself but... help me out!

Fucking Weeaboo
I know my rental store has a Super Game Boy, but I'm not sure if they (or I) have Donkey Kong.  I swear I had it at one point, but my original GB and a few good games (Metroid II *sniffle*) disappeared.   I blame mom for this.

*Will look around.*

Oh hey, found my Donkey Kong game.  Will just have to go rent a Super Gameboy later and give it a whirl.

I did a couple recordings, and yes, the SGB Fast behaviour still applies.

Yep, already figured that out and passed the info to Radix.

Now to figure out what else to do with my new Super Gameboy...

Insane Quality? Is that the first run to have it? I've never noticed it with any other run.

No. Insane is just the old High, 4 mbps. The new high is around 2 mbps. This is for those that said high was too much (including me) just to get the full 60 fps.

A bunch of the most recent things have had it but sometimes nate forgets and soon he won't have the computing power to do it until he buys a new computer after christmas.

Well played! This is probably my new favorite speed run on SDA Grin You pulled off a ton of tricks I wasn't even aware of... small things like picking up the key while standing on an equal level platform (2-7), and huge time savers like that trick on 8-1. And your strat on 3-6 just blew me away... I never would have thought of that. I don't have much to suggest... you do every level the same, or better, than I would have. The only time you lose is for brief pauses to be on the safe side, or for minor mistakes where you clearly know what went wrong. I'm surprised you didn't mention 9-6 as one of your greatest mistakes though; that one was costly. And I liked how you were so close to getting squashed twice in a row on the final DK fight. I don't know if I'll ever bother attempting this game now. I don't think I could improve it by more than a minute. If I do, it won't be for a long time until after I've done more speed runs on games that haven't been run yet. Anywho, congrats on the awesome run!

Thanks for the kind words, Arrow. But whatr trick are you referring to in 8-1? I've always done that level like that. Is there another way to do it Huh? Personally, I thought my coolest level was 8-15. I hope that impressed some people. As for the 9-6 mistake, yeah, I forgot to mention in my comments, but I mentioned it in the thread.
Please don't discontinue your run! I need some competition!
Now a hit show on the CW
Well, it's not so much a matter of "discontinuing" as not even starting. I wasn't planning to do the run until after the two runs I'm currently working on anyway. I just feel like I could maybe save a second here and there in places where you made small mistakes, but I would still be using the same exact routes you took, so it's like why even bother? There's only two or three levels where I can think of significantly different strats, and I'm not even sure if my methods would actually be faster or not. I'll still probably try it someday, but I know it will take a lot of time and effort, so I'm going to put it off for now.

8-1: I'm referring to the place where you toss the key straight up into the cliff, and it shoots up all the way to the top. I've never tried that before. I've always tossed the key into that little niche to the left of where you throw it... I'm pretty sure that's the "intended" method. And yeah, 8-15 was indeed very impressive. I think I've tried to do it that way before, but I'm not sure if I ever actually pulled it off.
Fucking Weeaboo
I got done watching the run and I'm very impressed.  I just wish you went back and redid World 3 to get rid of the blemish that is 3-8.  Yeah, you made a couple minor errors elsewhere, but that level made me cry because your run was so awesome otherwise.
I'll get around to registering some time, but I've got to chime in and say, your run rocks.  I've played through DK94 and love the game, but you've really optimized things and made very few mistakes.  How many restarts did you need to do?
Eternal Understudy
At least one on every stage. I can't really tally the total number, but I spent 10 hours on IceBerg alone and about 4-5 hours on every other section. That'll give you a good sense on how many times I restarted.

Hey Suzaku, just watched your run (well, the first part :P) It's lookin' great so far, glad it's finally up Grin
In the high quality version the audio and video are out of sync.  The normal version is fine though.
