I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Yes. Yes.  You have yet to feel the wrath of Donkey Kong.

Have you endured any painful or funny moments during your milestone run?

Sandbag, one thing you must understand.... you must, is that I'm the Donkey Kong man around here @_@;

Continue being a bag of sand. And Suzaku_Mirani, I barely remember this game, but from what I can, it was so fun. I can't wait for this run.
I will be waiting for this with bated breath. I love DK94 and can't wait to see the final result of this (especially since the TAS run is moving along at a much slower pace). Good luck with those later levels (and I don't think anyone would blame you if you split Iceberg and Rocky Valley into separate segments :P).
I like this site name cause it's easy to remember.
I know you're only half done, but what would you say would be the approximate total time for all the levels? And after you finish, are you planning on remaking the run to improve it, or is this the final one already?

Segment 5 (Desert) and 6 (Airplane) taped. They're both pretty good, with very few mistakes. I had the chance to pull of a crazy trick in 6-4 which would shave off 10 seconds, but my success rate with it is around 5% so I didn't try it.

Sandbag: I wouldn't say funny, more like incredibly aggravating. Airplane is a perfect example. I pulled of the incredible trick and ended the first four levels with a time of 705 but then I RUN STRAIGHT INTO A BULLET in the next level. It's almost like a couldn't even see it. A supid moment that is in the run is in 4-11 where I get hit by 3 mushrooms, adding a good 8 seconds or so to my time. erg..

qqwref: I have no idea how long it'll take me, I'm really bad at estimating, but I'll try to have a time when I finish the run. And yes, this run is the final one. I've done a few runs of the game before this, but they were littered with deaths and mistakes. This run will have no deaths.

Well, I must be off. The iceberg awaits.

Segment 7 (Iceberg) taped! I swear, I must have worked on that segment for ten hours in the last few days, but it's over now and it looks pretty damn good.
Now I must finish Rockey Valley... with no deaths..... Oh, God.... If you guys don't hear from me in a couple days, I've gone insane from the difficulty.

Seriously, Rocky Valley is like two worlds in one.
well, at least The Tower is a heck lot easier Tongue
Eternal Understudy
Segment 8 (Rockey Valley) taped!!! The weirdest part of this segment is that it wasn't very hard. I don't understand why, but it was much easier than some of my other segments. Anyway, the only thing left is the Tower, which I will have done very soon.
Eternal Understudy
I'm done!!!!! YAY!! Donkey Kong '94 with no deaths! I have no idea how long it is, and I'm just beat right now. Tomorrow, I'll view the tapes and get a quick estimate.

.......now what am I gonna do with my free time?

Mario Vs. Donkey Kong? Wink

Anyway, congrats on the run! That didn't take long at all. I can't wait to see it!

Awesome running, Suzaku. I'll definately watch this one when it comes out.

*Stabs Arrow in the eye* I don't want to even think about Mario VS DK right now. Maybe in a couple weeks

@KennyMan - Did that last week.

Actually, right now, I'm going to go back and improve the Jungle. After watching the tape, I can't let that horrible, horrible mushroom mistake be seen by public.

Will it matter if you have a different number of lives at the beginning of the segment? Or did you make a copy of the save file? I don't know if it matters or not. It's a no-deaths run, and aside from number of lives, nothing carries over between levels... so I'm not sure if Radix would allow that.

You might have a chance thanks to the precedent of Quake Done Quick, if my memory serves me about what's happened here before. But I'd definitely ask.
Didnt read through the whole thread, sorry if this has been mentioned before.

There is a stage, with lots of spitting plants, where you start in the lower left corner and the key as well as the door is in the lower right. When the level starts the gate to this area closes, but you can quickly grab a ladder and block the gate, thus beating the level in about 5 seconds.

Thanks for the tip, knew it already though. ^^
Any more?

Well, there is a jungle(could also be forest) level, that is about 1.5 screens wide and 4 screens high. With lots of twines and bats. With good timing you can just jump down, when you have the key and hit the lowest bat, while holding the key.
This saves about 5 seconds, when compared to the save method.

Btw. I am looking forward to your DK fight. That big bugger always took me several attempts to beat  Cry

BTW, Do you know how the game determines, when DK operates the lever? Especially 4-7 always seemed extremely random to me.

I'm really bored being stuck at the college for 3 hours, so I might as well update this thread. I was looking at the tapes yesterday and the run so far is 30:30 to get to the Desert. Keep in mind that these are the times for the length of the segment (power on to power off), not the game time itself. Also, I played this on an SGB, so I have to multiply the time according to Radix's SGB-GB comparison, so it adds on about 40 seconds or so.

Done timing the segments. All the segments (in other words, the total length of the video appearing on the site) will be roughly 1:19:00.  I'm not sure how long the actual run will be timed as, seeing as I don't know how Radix will time the run, but I hope you all think it's a decent time. Tell me if it's ok, everyone, I hope I didn't disapoint.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I need to buy a copy of this game.
Never give up!
As far as I can say, it's at least a great time, Suzaku.  I played this game a lot some time ago (not so much on Super Game Boy, but as I recall, that only changed the colors and added new sounds), and I'm very interested in seeing some of the tricks you wind up pulling.

If you need a verifier, Suzaku, I can gladly oblige - if experience winds up a factor, I still have the game, so I can just go through it again and refresh my memory.

Could you tell us any near-misses, bloopers or really really dum things that happened during the run?

Due to popular demand (42-1 vote) I'm no long participating in the more popular topics.  Everybody's throwing barrels at me.

Near misses, bloopers or dumb things? Let's see...

In 3-8, I manage to break 3 (4?) barrels and end up simply waiting for more barrels, like an idiot.
In 4-11, I get hit by THREE mushrooms. ARG. The first mushroom didn't waste much time, but the other two are just retarded and I hope you all laugh full-heartedly when you see it.
Those are the biggest ones I can remember from the recorded run.
There were so many mistakes while recording that obviosly didn't make it into the finished version. Everything from getting hit by slow enemies, falling down entire levels, jumping constantly trying to backflip, getting thrown by Dk because I came too close. IIRC I die in every single stage atleast once. That's just sad.

There's a funny part in 9-5 where I fall straight down while swinging on a wire. I fall straight down and land on my face, that has NEVER happened, and I burst out laughing when it did. It hurt the run by about 5 seconds but I kept it for giggles.
