If it makes the schedule I was going to ask you about that anyway because i think it is much better for the viewers and the PAL version is not really an option for speedruns. The only thing that might be weird about that are the crashing issues with the PAL version which I'm not that familiar with but a lot of testing should help with that.
I have made a AB Speedrunning Group on FB to network AB runners for travel and meetups https://www.facebook.com/groups/ABSpeedRunning/
im not sure where to post about it so i posted here and in the CGDR thread

PJ (pjdicesare on Twitch) knows the English PAL version of Terranigma fairly well - I vaguely remember him once saying that there are 4 specific cutscenes where there's a small chance of the game softlocking (none of which affected me in my recent playthrough of the English PAL version with NTSC patch), so saving before those points would be easy enough.

Also Poxnor, please add me for Terrangima commentary.

The Wayward Wanderer
I meant to do this last night, but Oh well.
Quote from Keypaladin:
Game 2: Ys 3 Oath in Felghana
System: PC (Steam)
Estimate: 2:45:00  (It's a rough estimate, I plan to update it before Monday the 23rd. )
Info: The 3rd game in the series.  Started as a 2d side-scroller and got a 3d remake back in 2005.  Fast paced action, platformer RPG.
Downside:  Other than a small amount of grinding, none that I can think of.
Incentives: None.
Watchability:  The game is fast paced, even grinding doesn't feel like grinding.

With enough work, I could potentially get Sub-2:30:00, but let's keep the estimate at 2:45:00.  (Edited)
SDA Speedruns: 1
If your best time is like 2:25:00 I would still keep the estimate at 2:45:00 because of set up time and random stuff occuring.
The Wayward Wanderer
Thinking on it (And my practices), probably for the best.
dat jerk
I'm not gonna go into detail but unfortunately, I will not be able to go. ;____;

Make me proud with FFX-2, Caracarn. Otherwise... I hope you like tasting master sword.
Co-founder: Etrosgate.com
Game 1:  Final Fantasy XIII
System: PS3
Estimate: 7:00:00 (WR is 5:36:30 by Zoning.  I expect to be near a 6 hour pace, but see below.)
Info: The Final Fantasy XIII speedrun features tight dodges, precise resource management, and fast-paced, exciting battles that showcase much of the game's strategic depth.  Entertaining and highly watchable, FFXIII was a good draw at last year's C4L, and the route has been improved in the meantime.
Downsides: I am not named Zoning or Slvr, and I have no established speedrunning credentials.  Unfortunately, Zoning is highly unlikely to be available for C4L and Slvr isn't able to commit (if one of them can make it, I'll happily let them run).  Both Zoning and Slvr are willing to help me with routing and advice.  I will have to learn most of the speedrun between now and C4L, but I am confident I can do so thanks in part to my expertise with FFXIII's battle system (Zoning and Slvr have both expressed confidence in me as well).
Incentives: Some fights have alternate strategies, and some bosses can be defeated blindfolded.  Can have incentives to skip grinding in chapter 11, for using different party members during chapters 12 and 13, and possibly for using different party members in chapters 10 and 11.

Game 2:  Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
System: PS3
Estimate: 4:00:00-8:00:00 (pure guesswork, since the game has not been released)
Info:  Based on preview information, LR:FFXIII looks like it will continue the FFXIII series trend of having a very skill-based, strategic battle system that is well suited to minimal leveling.  The game is already based around a timer, and I expect the fastest path through the game to be very short.
Downsides: The game will need to be routed within three months of the English release, although I will probably pick up a Japanese copy of the game to get a head start if the game is accepted.  I do have a strong support community to aid in mastering the game (etrosgate.com) and can probably get help from current FFXIII and FFXIII-2 speedrunners (Slvr has expressed tentative interest in this).
Incentives:  There will probably be costuming incentives and various optional events and fights.
Freshness:  This would likely be one of the first major livestreams of a speedrun for the game.
Moo! Flap! Hug!
I'll be catching up with everything this weekend.  Real life has been a whirlwind these past few weeks.  So, expect substantive posts this weekend.  Quick reminder to get any game suggestions in, since we're coming up on the end of September.

And sorry, I'm pulling executive privilege again: no to Lightning Returns.  Here's the rationale: we'll be finalizing the game schedule shortly (game suggestions close end of September and the review process will be quick -- I'll post more about applying to be a reviewer this weekend).  Basically, I can't put a game on the schedule where no one knows how long it'll be, what sort of incentives there are, or if it'll even be speedrunnable (always remember FF3DS -- some RPGs simply cannot be speedrun).
It's agonizing that we must continue to remember FF3DS, instead of finally just forgetting it ever happened.

Well, I wanted to try to submit runs of a couple notable RPG franchises that have been omitted so far, Dragon Quest and Shin Megami Tensei, but I was working too much on SD3 and other games this month to get a proper estimate on the SMT game I was going to route. That's fine though, because I am still very confident in this DQ submission, a game I am going to run anyway. Smiley Maybe SMT will have its chance one day...

Dragon Quest III
- GBC version
- 3:30:00 (generous estimate right now, could come down)
- Info: GBC remake of one of the classic DQ games released in North America for the NES. The class system, party variety, and lenient routing provide way more for commentators to explain so that things stay interesting. GBC version plays MUCH faster than NES and even has some funny bugs, including an exp. bug that can completely remove grinding for the late game and allow it to be marathon-safe.
- Downside: A couple parts might drag, but good commentary will help remedy this.
- Incentives: At the very least there will be 4 names to choose and the MC's full name. Route might include more characters and I might come up with more incentives as I work on this.
SDA Speedruns: 1
Awesome to see DQ getting some love. It aint 7 but 3 is good as well.
We require more minerals
I have theorycrafted a way to allow myself to do Chrono Cross 100% as a donation incentive that wouldn't add as much time on top of the run as you'd initially think. I need to test this out to be sure of how much time it would add, but considering 100% is recruiting all 44 characters it would definitely catch a lot of people by surprise on how fast I can do it.

This would also allow for the addition of the Rock Opera into the run which could be a further donation incentive of me not fast forwarding through it.

I'm going to stream myself testing this out soonish.
Not a walrus
If it matters at all, I went and checked how much full-on grinding (as in, not counting enemies I killed on the way, times when I stopped in the same area for a noticeable period to kill stuff) occurred in my Crystalis run at SGDQ. It was about 15 minutes altogether, but it was broken up into 8 sections, the longest being about 3 minutes. In a 100% run this would a) have less explicit grinding due to having to explore more of the game and be able to kill stuff on the way, and b) be less of a proportion even if the grinding was identical. I was honestly surprised to see that it was even that high, since while actually playing it, it doesn't seem like that much. Plus I'm sure I'll be better at the game by then, since I didn't get as much practice as I wanted prior to SGDQ.

I think I can be of assistance. Won't go into details until my application post, which will hopefully be tomorrow Wink
I've done some thinking and came to the conclusion, that if I am going to play the patched PAL version of Terranigma, I could also offer an all Magirock run as a donation incentive since the stupid japanese quiz wouldn't be in the game. All Magirock is as close to 100% as you are going to get before there is an exact definition as it involves all minigames every side quest in the game and the expansion of all cities. It would however get rid of basically all of the other donation incentives I've listed so far so somebody would have to make the decision if it would be better to have one big donation incentive for the game or a few smaller ones. My time estimate for an all Magirock run would be 5:20:00.
I'm going to preface this with the statement that, depending on the exact dates of this and some real-life stuff, I may not be able to come. That was my reason for waiting until the very last day to submit anything (I was hoping I'd at least have firm dates for the real-life thing by this point). That's probably not the best thing to put on an entry, but oh well.

Game 1: Half-Minute Hero
System: PC
Estimate: 50:00
Info: This is an amazingly fast JRPG. I'd be doing the neo climax versions of the game for all modes (Hero 30, Evil Lord 30, Knight 30, Princess 30, Hero 300, and Hero 3), as that version is more RPG-y. I could additionally do the classic Evil Lord 30 mode, which is basically a sub-10-minute action RPG that is IMHO an extremely fun watch, even if you have no idea what's going on.
Downsides: The main game is almost too fast, especially if you have no idea what's going on.
Incentives: Main character's name, plus what art style I use for Hero 30 (classic vs. neo cartoon)

Game 2: Yuusha 30 SECOND
Platform: PSP
Estimate: 2:30:00
Info: This is the Japanese-only sequel to the above game. It also has an awesome soundtrack featuring a couple dozen composers at their best. Furthermore, the game is IMHO much easier to follow than the original if you have no idea what's going on, due to the average quest being around a minute long (as opposed to HMH Neo Climax's ~15 second average).
Downsides: It is a Japanese-only sequel to a game that, by all accounts, underperformed in the West. I doubt too many have played it.
Incentives: Character naming. An additional incentive would be to do Hero 3D, which (like the original's Hero 3) has a 3-second timer. I can further do Hero 3D in hard mode, which causes the timer to no longer stop in towns, making things... interesting.

Yes, I said tomorrow two days ago. It's totally still Sunday. If you count the amount of time I slept last nights, it's probably even still Saturday … whatever. I also dreamt of being a butterfly. Totally unrelated.

I'm going to offer one single and only one game: Revelations: Persona (also known as Megami Ibunroku Persona in JP), good ending.
System: PS2 (PSX disc)
Estimate: See below.
Info: As Romscout pointed out, the Shin Megami Tensei series is still missing. Here you see a spin-off of that series! It's not exactly your fastest-paced RPG, the first-person view in dungeons can be found annoying, and the maze-like structure of the maps is weird, but it has some pretty nice (and funny Wink ) music to it, along with possible donation incentives not only for the filename, but also for choosing the fifth party-member (Alana or Brad)! We could also introduce the rolling 'change backgrounds' incentive as in FFVI last year, only there is unfortunately nothing as iconic as demon chocobo.
Reasons, why the track reviewers should shoot this game down immediatly without any second thoughts: While I specifically chose to buy this game in the hope of running it in Edmonton 2014, I was totally flabbergasted by the early date of finalising the game list, and am thus still in the middle of routing and planning. Hence why there is no time estimate yet: I have absolutely no idea what the actual time will be. I could post some wild and crazy guesses, but I don't know if that's a good idea. I also do not have a running streaming setup (although I at least have a twitch account since this year), so you can't watch me play.
Reasons, why the track reviewers might actually still give this game a chance: I am absolutely committed to getting this run onto solid grounds and giving you an estimate as soon as possible. I feel like I have given good shows at the past marathons I've attended (ESA12 and 13), so maybe you can trust me to do as I say. I would have waited even longer with this application (my worst guess would be a week or so for posting a 'my time will almost certainly be below this time unless I turn into a dog'-estimate), but unfortunately September will be ending tonight.

And now Neviutz needs to get his appications in =O <-- hope dies last Wink

Re: Persona

Snow Queen quest RTAs are around 4 hours, and based off my experience with the game I'd imagine the SEBEC quest (ending you're doing) to be at minimum 2 hours more while playing safe enough for a marathon. I know enough about the game to help route it, but yea there's no way that's happening like, tonight. :p I would've had to have known this was your plan a bit earlier. Oh well.

You can get Megidola ("NukeMore" I think it's called in the U.S. version? lol) in your lineup like, before the Karma Palace I think (fairly early in the game) and then with infinitely stackable buffs (yes, that's a thing) you just trash the game after that. The demon negotiations in the game are all set (unlike several other SMT games where there are some degrees of randomness), so that is a big help with marathon reliability, and the negotiations themselves are usually pretty hilarious. Let's just say the localization of this game is... special. For incentives, I can't think of much else besides naming the MC and possibly choosing which party members you take along. It's definitely not a ton for the possibly 6+ hour block, but it's something I guess. I'm not the one trying to sell the game though. Just throwing in some extra stuff I already know about it and have a general idea of estimate. :p

edit: oh something else I forgot to consider about the estimate; the Snow Queen quest RTAs are on the Japanese version, which has 3 times the encounter rate of the U.S. version. So SEBEC quest on U.S. version might be a lot closer to those times than I first thought just because loading for battles takes FOREVER.
Since this is happening in my backyard so to speak, I'd like to offer up some runs of my own.

Breath of Fire
System: GBA/SNES
Estimate: 4:00:00(GBA)/6:00:00(SNES)
Info: The game that started it all with this under-appreciated series from Capcom. Transform into dragons, and hang out with a bunch of anthropomorphic buddies to save the world from the evil goddess. Very classic RPG game with a pretty wonky translation. No random encounters besides one at the very beginning. GBA Version has a money overflow glitch that makes the run much faster, not to mention the addition of a run speed. Pretty marathon safe game.
Downside: The battles are kind of stale at parts, the whole game is walking and boss fights.
Incentives: Character name, Chun-Li cameos, SNES vs GBA

Breath of Fire 2
System: GBA
Estimate: 9:00:00
Info: The more popular of the 16-bit entries of this series, plenty of people are familiar with this game due to its release on Virtual Console. Again uncomplicated story here; hang out with anthropomorphic buds and stop the evil religion. Hilariously bad translation. No glitches are involved, but there is no level grinding at all. Cooking at the halfway point of the game solves almost all the issues that one has in the beginning, allowing for the run to smooth over quite nicely.
Downsides: Can be quite random at times, but theres virtually nowhere in which a run will be completely stopped by a death. Cooking segment near the end is neccessary, and can take anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Lack of donation incentives, length of game.
Incentives: Character name, ending chosen.

Shadowrun
System: SNES
Estimate: 1:50:00
Info: The video game based on the tabletop rpg. More story driven and linear than its Genesis counterpart. Shoot orcs, trolls and dragons in the face with various firearms. Lots of AI manipulation in the arena battles, rendering more than half of the opposition there harmless. Quite a fast paced game.
Downsides: Things can get dicey if your shadowrunners die prematurely. Action dies down a bit after the ship. Lack of donation incentives.
Incentives: None
Caution: This user contains Kana ^_^
Yes, definitely SEBEC route, because the Snow Queen has been made inaccessible without GameSharks and stuff for the US version. And yeah, the translation can be fun ^^
Also consider text length differences between English and Japanese, which would make it longer still. I'll PM you about routing help, Rom, thanks =^__^=
Moo! Flap! Hug!
Reminder everyone, get game requests in.

I'll post the information about how to review shortly (probably tomorrow). In the meantime, think that the first goal will be for everyone to "put their best foot forward" -- for people who have suggested multiple games, give some thought to which you think is their best game, and the insanely concise (i.e., one or two sentences) reasons why.

Many thanks to Mike for updating the first post while I flail about with this "real life" thing. I'm slowly getting settled in Vancouver; thanks everyone for your well wishes during this little period of upheaval Smiley
Everything's better with Magitek
Finally posting, woohoo. Wink

Half-Minute Hero (I was going to offer this before Dowolf posted, but I'd be okay with him taking it if he's able to come.)
- PSP
- 45:00 (will probably be lower)
- Info: Pretty much what Dowolf said, except in the PSP version, only the Hero mode is really an RPG. I would just run Hero 30, with Hero 300 and 3 as incentives.
- Incentives: Bidding war for Hero's name, and incentives for Hero 300 and Hero 3 modes. Possibly have an incentive for Hard mode (time runs while in towns), but I'd need to practice it more to see how viable it is.

Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep
- PSP
- 2:30:00
- Info: A prequel to Kingdom Hearts 1, with 3 main character stories to choose from. It's regarded more as a main game in the series than a side game. Downside: Mostly consists of running from place to place and fighting.
- Incentives: Bidding war for which story is played (Terra, Aqua, or Ventus), and an incentive for playing the final episode and possibly fight the two optional bosses (Vanitas' Lingering Spirit and Mysterious Figure).

Final Fantasy IV (Only if Brossentia isn't able to make it.)
- SNES
- 2:50:00
- Die Hard%
- Info: It's really broken FFIV, which would be different from the previous C4L run. Downside: One skip is RNG dependent and could take a few tries to get.
- Incentives: Naming characters (except Edge).
Obdajr's game pitches!

Chrono Trigger
- SNES
- Any% (4:00) or 100% (6:00)
- Incentives: Naming characters (Crono, Marle, Lucca, Robo, Frog, Ayla, Magus, Epoch)
- Why? It's an awesome game. also doesnt take 10 hours or anything crazy.

Lufia 2
- SNES
- Any% (4:00)
- Incentives: Ancient Cave bonus run / attempt ( 2 extra hours, could be fun )
- Great Puzzle RPG that hasn't seen a marathon.ro 3 modes. Possibly have an incentive for Hard mode (time runs while in towns), but I'd need to practice it more to see how viable it is.

Obda man.....you're my favourite...I will miss sleep for Lufia 2, absolutely...

I would also love to toy with the insane notion of a beat Gades incentive...
