Last year I was proud to host and organize the CalFire Relief Marathon to help victims of the massive wildfires that destroyed over 1,000 homes in the state of California.
I had said that I hope I wouldn't need to host another marathon like it again, as it is no joke for the amount work and time that goes into running such a marathon.

But now another major wildfire has broken out only 7 miles from my home, destroying even more in its wake, and this wildfire is still being fought as of this date with no telling when it will end.
Wishing to do my part to help, I am more than willing to put together this second marathon to help my local community out in what has been the 3rd straight year of unrelenting wildfires.

I am currently in talks with the Red Cross who is out there now supporting the people forced to evacuate their homes, and that together, we can raise some money for these people.

The Marathon will take place October 20th - 23rd.

This will be a Online Marathon Hosted on Twitch.tv/Vulajin (thanks again vulajin for letting us do this for quality options)

EDIT: The Team that will be handling anything official is Vulajin, Ghoul02, Metasigma, Wyrmtalon, Aleck47, Freddeh, StingerPA and Myself.

If you wish to offer a game to run, please make your submission here.  A format for you to follow is listed below:

EXAMPLE

Game: Yo-kai Watch
Category: any% No S+Q
Estimate: 3:00
Video Link:
Incentives: name boy, name yo-kai.
Description: Meme game, people love it. I go fast in awesome game...blah..blah...ect
Thread title:
Game: Jet Set Radio Future

Category: Any%

Estimate: 2:10

Video Link: https://www.twitch.tv/twoworldscoexisting/v/23059594

Incentives: None I can think of

Description: Really fun game about teenagers in Japan rollerskating around to fight an oppressive dictator. JSRF features a bunch of cool movement, a few skips, and thanks to the cel-shaded graphics, is really nice to look at. Not to mention the amazing soundtrack that has kept many people, me included, playing it for many years.

Game: Curious George

Category: Any%

Estimate: 1:10

Video Link: https://www.twitch.tv/twoworldscoexisting/v/71585795

Incentives: None

Description: Silly videogame about a very curious Monkey who gets up to no good. Actually has some really impressive glitches discovered recently that pushed the game's WR to sub 1 hour, formerly thought to be impossible.
Stay chill, be cool.
Game: Valkyria Chronicles II

Category: Any% Normal

Estimate: 3:45:00

Video Link:

Incentives: Name the tank (6 character limit)

Description: A turn based strategy RPG with actions done in real time like a third-person shooter.  Two years after the events of the first game, rebels want to take over the country.  The only thing that can stop them are a bunch of military academy cadets.  This is done through running like an idiot through enemy fire, grenade launching enemies out of camps, and driving a small tank with a freaken powerful turret.  Despite being the least popular game in the trilogy, a speedrun of VC2 breaks the game in ways that were never intended and couldn't be any more different than casual play.

----------

Game: Hyper Princess Pitch

Category: Combat Lady, Any% / All Stages

Estimate: 0:15:00 / 0:15:00

Video Link:

Any%:

All Stages: https://www.twitch.tv/elmagus/v/75371891

Incentives: Possible bid war between Any% and All Stages?  Possible incentive to watch cutscenes.

Description: A top down shooter in the style of Smash TV, with hordes of holiday themed enemies coming at you.  You can do piledrivers on enemies and suplex bosses.  There are a lot of explosions.  Combat Lady is the standard difficulty for this game.  Any% has me going through the 4 regular stages and fighting the final boss as intended.  All Stages sees me unlocking a hidden stage, where I get a special move at the end of the stage.  That will let me finish the game at the final boss with a literal bang.
Game: Star Fox 64

Category: Blue Line

Estimate: 27:00 (yes, this is safe)

Video Link: (My AGDQ submission video will probably do)

Incentives: Kill Slippy (+1min to estimate)

Description: Star Fox 64 is a rail-shooter game with visually impressive boss kills and very technical stages. The run is short, an average run is about 25:30, and there is plenty of downtime for donations if need be. This category is very optimized, with my PB being about 15 seconds from a TAS-level optimized run. Blue Line is the easy mode stages, warps are banned to make the category more interesting and dissimiliar from Any%, and this game has plenty of great nostalgic memes. Kill Slippy is a very short run that people have seemed to love in the past, which I think makes it a great donation incentive.
Game: Mario Superstar Baseball
Category: Any% Mushroom Cup
Estimate: 40:00
Video Link: https://www.twitch.tv/thtwhit3kid/v/36354941
Incentives: Bid war to pick the Captain (Mario, DK, Peach, Wario, Yoshi)
Description: Mario Superstar Baseball is a fun and fast paced run that has a large amount of the loveable characters from the Mario franchise coming together to play baseball. During the run, we will be playing 5 short games that involve scoring as fast as possible, while making productive outs that progress the game while also scoring runs. Being as efficient as possible is key as every pitch has implications, and keeping the ball in play and the game moving along is the most important part. This is not your conventional speed game, but it offers a great opportunity for incentive while also being entertaining to watch.

As a Southern California native, I would love to help out in some way even if my run does not get in. Whether it is donation reading, streaming or anything that is needed I would love to help out. The best way to contact me is through Twitter (@thtwhit3kid), but Twitch PM would also work.

I MUST STATE FIRST THAT MY STREAMING SITUATION MAY BE UP IN THE AIR DURING THE MARATHON.  I am moving from Ohio to South America and leave in September, check back with me after Sep 20th to make sure that I will be able to stream from my new place.

Game: Puyo Puyo 2 Remix
Category: Rallye Mode
Estimate: 0:40:00
Video Link: https://www.twitch.tv/cosmykthedolfyn/v/73404762
Incentives: None to really speak of.
Description: High level puzzle game, 33 levels on the highest difficulty with 5 color options.  By later levels, you only have 1-2 frames to place blocks, while still making combos at this speed.  I have done this difficult run in under 40 minutes in live marathons before.

Game: The Next Penelope: Race To Oddyseus
Category: Mines% OR Mines Last
Estimate: 0:28:00
Video Link: and
Incentives: Bid war between two categories.  Mines% is slightly faster and easier, while Mines Last requires doing bosses without any safety measures and not use an exploit during races.
Description:  This is a fairly unique little Indie PC game that has a ton of skips.  Game has a high difficulty curve as it also features shooter boss fights where your own shots damage yourself also, meaning you can die by being a bad aim or getting hit.

Game: Cally's Cave's 3
Category: Any%+Saves / Melvin's Zone / Bera's Zone
Estimate: 0:45:00 / 0:30:00 / 0:06:00
Videos:
Incentives: Play Bera's Zone after a run of either Any+Saves or Melvin's Zone, where you get just about 5 minutes of a super cute little bear jumping over stuff quickly.
Description:  Indie Platformer with a TON of guns.  Any+Saves is Any with previous save data loaded in (basically like NG+, but different for reasons).  This allows for us to bring in late game guns that allow us to destroy bosses quickly and perform some cool skips with the Spike Gun, by standing on top of our own shots to fly over enemies.  Melvin's Zone is a post game category where you automatically start with fully upgraded stuff, much harder enemies than Any%+Saves, but not as many skips and much fewer levels.  Bera's Zone is a cute little sidequest, offering purely as a donation incentive if Any%+Saves or Melvin's Zone gets in.
Game: Super Mario 64 DS
Category: 50 Star / 80 Star
Estimate: 57:00 / 1:25:00
Video Link: / (I unfortunately don't have a video for 80 Star)
Incentives: None for 50 Star / Unlock Luigi in 80 Star
Description: Super Mario 64 DS is a remake from the beloved original on the Nintendo 64. This version features Yoshi, Mario, Luigi, and Wario as playable characters, aswell as changes to stars and worlds.  I recently ran 50 Star in SGDQ 2016, and since then there have been a ton of little time savers found and a TAS strategy is now RTA viable. 80 Star is Intended Any%, and recently there have been a lot of route changes.

Game - Mega Man Rock Force
Category - Any% Easy Mode (Any% with difficulty settings changed to make the game faster/easier)
Estimate: 55:00
Video Link: https://www.twitch.tv/dangodofthunder/v/82772367
Incentives: None come to mind. My apologies.
Description: This is a fan made, classic style Mega Man game where for once, Dr. Wily is not the main villain. This has not been featured at a GDQ event previously or to my knowledge, any marathon environment. My PB is a 48:42 which is not an elite time (WR is 45:57), but I am the only runner in the community that uses a keyboard, to my knowledge. Any% Easy Mode is the fastest category and allows for a ton of damage boost related skips. Optimal speed comes from solid weapon utilization similar to Mega Man 10.

Of some Concern: I have once, amongst all my runs, had the game soft lock in the transition from phase 1 to phase 2 of the final boss fight. This is a single occurrence amongst the entire speedrunning community and the casual community as this bug was never reported during any phase of testing. I cannot discern why this soft lock occurred. A backup save will be prepared at the start of the final boss stage, but a soft lock will cost approximately six minutes. I consider this event unlikely enough that my estimate time does not factor this into the run.

Game - Videoball
Category - Arcade Mode Co-Op Any% (w/Co-Op Partner Teknopathetc)
Estimate - 45:00
Video Link - https://www.twitch.tv/dangodofthunder/v/82584572
Incentives - Male or Female Announcer (Jake/Jenn, default is Jenn)
Description - Videoball is a minimalist 2D sports game that at first glance, looks like a cross between Asteroids and Soccer. While primarily designed as a multiplayer competitive game, it also sports an Arcade mode with 14 different levels each with a pair of AI opponents unique to that stage. The playing fields are varied from extremely basic with a single ball in play and a wide open field, to downright unfair. This is a new release with the speedrun being a largely unmined territory thus far. As such, it has never been showcased at any marathon (To be fair, this is one of the first marathons since its release). Videoball is loaded with amusing commentary from both the announcers and the runners, highlight-reel plays, and a bright, colorful, simplistic design that is easy to understand even on first glance.

Availability Note: I will not be able to participate in this marathon prior to 7PM on Friday due to work. I will be able to participate on Saturday and/or Sunday in full with sufficient advanced notice.
Game: Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals
Category: Any%
Estimate: 2:00:00
Video: Marathon Strat videos &
Incentives: Maxim Name and/or Capsule Monster name (5 characters each limitations) Capsule Monster bid War (Choose which capsule monster I use, in total 7 choices)
Description: A randomized rogue-like dungeon which has a unique presence as it's never the same twice. Collect chests and defeat enemies to get to the 99th floor and defeat the end Boss. Can be very risky but exciting at marathons.

Amateur DKC Runner
Game: Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
Category: 8-4 Warpless (Mario) / D-4 Warpless (Mario)
Estimate: 0:35:00 / 0:55:00
Video Link: NASA 2016 -
Current PB - https://www.twitch.tv/raikourider/v/68441082
Incentives: D-4 Warpless (Mario) - Adds world 9 and the letter worlds A-D to the run.
Description: A 2D Mario game notorious for its difficulty, Lost Levels has been performed in a large number of marathons, both big and small. For the vast majority of the runs, Luigi has been used for his jump height. Mario is a different run altogether, and far more difficult than the Luigi run. This run will be showcasing the differences between Mario and Luigi.

Game: Donkey Kong Country 3
Category: 103%
Estimate: 2:10:00
Video Link: https://www.twitch.tv/raikourider/v/51275213
Incentives: File name (5 characters), MERRY (Christmas-themed bonus stages), COLOR (Player 1 vs. Player 2 Kong palette - bid war?), Glitch Exhibition (adds 3 to 15 minutes - time slot flexible depending on schedule)
Description: Since the last CFR marathon, the category has undergone a lot of optimization - the world record has since dropped by around 5 minutes. A new zip saves 12 seconds in an autoscroller, and lightning manipulation has been discovered in Lightning Look-Out, making that stage much faster. Bonus stages are solved in new, creative ways, and a lot of difficult, impressive-looking team throws and extended rolls have been added to the run. Current PB is 2:04:07, but the video linked has much better commentary - easily my best explanation of the game to date.

Game: The Legend of Zelda
Category: Randomizer (Exhibition - Modes Flexible)
Estimate: 2:00:00 (exact estimate depends on mode)
Video Link: https://www.twitch.tv/raikourider/v/82383870
Incentives: Link sprite, Character's tunic color, and perhaps a bid war for which mode to play.
Description: Ever wanted to watch a speedrunner have to do all kinds of routing on the fly, in a game that changes every time you play it? Fred Coughlin's randomizer for The Legend of Zelda does all that and more. Shuffling locations of dungeons, enemies, items, and so on, the runner has to figure out the fastest way to complete the game, constantly adapting to new information obtained throughout the course of the game, changing strategies based on what items are in the runner's inventory, and so forth. A seed could be customized by a third party for added relevance to the marathon's cause, as well as assuring the run finishes under estimate while still being a good watch. The video submission is a good example of a worst-case scenario, where the game goes out of its way to make completion as difficult as possible. This could be mitigated with a third party selecting the seed used for the marathon.

Why Hello it is Me
Glad to see support for my home state and I will gladly offer to help this out, I have a bit of a personal attachment to the area affected by the Clayton fire as my family used to have a vacation house up there. I'll add more/change submissions as there are a couple other games I'm currently working on, but for now I'll pitch ones I know I can do right now, and I can do what I can to spread the word about it.

Game: Ys Origin
Category: Toal Any%
Estimate: 1 hr 40 min
Video Link: https://www.twitch.tv/ghostkingg1/v/63704180
Incentives: Unlock "Burst", basically a Kamehameha-esque laser finisher attack. Takes about ~40 seconds slower and looks way flashier.
Description: Action RPG with insane movement tech and crazy glitch exploitation out the wazoo. This category is about a renegade warrior who allies with evil for more power, who gains power throughout the game by absorbing it through his foes. Some new tech has been found to push this down, and 1:40 is a pretty consistently obtainable estimate as the run has minimal RNG and few tricks that are hard enough to be significantly costly.

Game: Custom Robo (GCN)
Category: Any% New Journey
Estimate: 2 hr 30 min
Video Link: https://www.twitch.tv/ghostkingg1/v/75775840
Incentives: Hero Name (8 Character Limit)
Description: Cult-Classic Gamecube Arena Brawler/Pseudo-ARPG with a ridiculous story and a ton of action-packed Robo Battles. The robo is fully customizable, although mostly-optimal parts are used for most of the run, and the run is quite tough leading to a lot of high-intensity moments.
This is Cantaloupme from twitch. (don't know how to change my name on here)

Game: Legend of Zelda 2 FDS Version
Category: 100% All Keys
Estimate 1hr 25 min
Vid Link: https://www.twitch.tv/cantaloupeme/v/35158357
Incentive: file names
Description: This run uses the Famicom Disk System version. It is very different from the US version as in a different sound channel and the last 3 palace bosses are slightly different. Its a fast paced run with little downtime besides walking through towns. The level up system is altered from the US version and is very marathon safe.

Like last year, I'm happy to put a run or two to help.

Game: Mega Man 7
Category: Any%
Estimate: 0:50:00
Video Link: https://www.twitch.tv/dmcaether/v/74959908
Incentives: Shade Man music select (Regular or GnG)
Description: First classic Mega on the SNES and my personal favorite. Jump, shoot, weapon usage, quick kills are in this game.

Game: Mega Man Legends
Category: Any%
Estimate: 1:10:00
Video Link: https://www.twitch.tv/dmcaether/v/83878135
Incentives: Kick or don't kick the dog (Basically I can skip a cutscene in the J version by kicking a dog)
Description: I'll take flavor text that the boxart for Legends 2 has: It's a free roaming RPG, in 3D of course. Contrary to other 3D games, this game is not really broken since there are no OoB or crazy clips.

Game: Strider
Category: Any%
Estimate: 10:00
Video Link: https://www.twitch.tv/dmcaether/v/67990136
Incentives: Don't really got much here.
Description: Absolute meme, mainly filler.
bichGOAL
As usual, I'd love to help out CA, but my submissions are limited to what I'm playing currently/working on for deuce con because the dates are so close.

Game: Final Fantasy Legend 3
Category: Any%
Estimate: 2:30:00
Video:
Incentive: 4 main character names (six character limit)
Description: It's a SaGa game, so its got its share of big time RNG, but the estimate is safe, if not a bit extreme. These days I tend to feel the appeal of this run comes from its remembered difficulty and its music, more than it being ridiculously exciting. You know me and my marathon performances though (for better or worse).

Game: Soul Blazer
Category: any%
Estimate: 2:10
Video: https://www.twitch.tv/bichphuongballz/v/83900959
Incentive: character name
Description: Estimate could go down as I get better but we'll see. The reality is that there are people WAY better than me at this, but as this is the main project for deuce con, I'll be ready to play it come time for this marathon. Nice, simple, little Quintet game that is plenty safe.

Game: Final Fantasy 6
Category: Any%
Estimate: 4:05:00
Video: https://www.twitch.tv/bichphuongballz/v/77800085
Incentive: names, glitches
Description: done to death, including last years marathon. But if you want it for its potential, I'm always ready to play it.

Game: Ninja Gaiden 2
Category: Any%
Estimate: 15:00
Video:
Incentive: sadly none.
Description: I had no plans to get back into NES runs but if you want this glorious wreck... I mean run, I got you.

Category: any%
Estimate: 30min-40
Video Link:
Incentives: VA the cutscenes (and do a better job than the official dub) adds about 10 minutes with the end cutscene
Description:JP version because it gives me 2 extra HP to work with which means overall the game is a touch faster due to some extra damage tanking, and I can just play like I have US HP and the game is suddenly completely marathon safe

Game: Silhouette Mirage: Reprogammed hope
Category: any%
Estimate: 45-60min
Video Link:
Incentives: Ending Path bid war, there's 4 of them to choose from, some are of course slower than others
Death Fight, Death, Horseman of the apocalypse is an extra boss, normally we skip him by intentionally dying, but I can not and have a safety save on stand-by just in case I get speed in my head or the game wants me dead

Category: Any% (race with StingerPA) (fine, solo is okay too)
Estimate: 0:20:00
Video: https://www.twitch.tv/vulajin/v/78477667
Incentives: None for this game.
Description: The best goat-based puzzle platformer of all time. I have gotten pretty okay at this game, and Stinger is still pretty okay at it. Let's race. (If Stinger's not up for it, a solo run is fine too.)

Game: Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition
Category: Glitchless Any%
Estimate: 0:55:00
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QL7PdiQhBjM
Incentives: None I can think of right now.
Description: There are a number of categories for Ori, all of which tend to feature significant glitches to skip major chunks of the game. This is not one of those categories. Don't worry, you can still go really fast without using glitches in this game.

Game: Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition
Category: 0 XP
Estimate: 1:30:00
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDJkrVxZ6qU
Incentives: This could be an incentive to upgrade the glitchless any% run, although the difference in estimates might make that a bit awkward.
Description: This is a challenge category in which I never collect a single XP drop in the game, never pick up any health upgrades, and never learn any abilities. Also, it's glitchless. Together, these restrictions mean I must beat all of the game content while being seriously underpowered and having to dodge drops from every enemy I kill.

(reserving the right to add more games)
I don't have videos for all of these yet, but I'd rather submit now and edit those in than forget entirely, so here we go.

Game: Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Category: Sonic or Knuckles
Estimate: 27:00 (Sonic) or 35:00 (Knuckles - this should go down)
Video Link: I'll edit this once I get a video for Knuckles (I know I already have one for Sonic, but it's old and I'm lazy)
Incentives: Character choice
Description: Classic and fast platformer with a good mix of optimized normal gameplay and glitches.

Game: Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Category: Knuckles
Estimate: 55:00 (this is also likely to go down)
Video Link: Again, none yet.  This one may take a week or two.
Incentives: I'm sure I could show off some interesting glitches, like blue Knuckles, etc.
Description: Arguably the best, and glitchiest, of the main Genesis Sonic games, both in general and to speedrun.

Game: Mass Effect
Category: any% or any% NG+
Estimate: 2:00:00 or 1:50:00
Video Link: https://www.twitch.tv/elmagus/v/74220171 (Scrubathon run and a very good worst-case video for any%)
Incentives: Category, male or female Shepard, name (will edit in character limit), save Kaiden or Ashley, bring Kaiden AND Ashley to the final fight
Description: Fun and popular third person RPG/shooter with a lot of glitches.  NG is the more interesting and more risky category.

And no, I'm not submitting FFXII for once. Tongue

Estimate: 1:10:00
Video Link: https://www.twitch.tv/vaan666/v/85474867
Incentives: Only Cute or Punk Giana Music throughout the run.
Description: Fast paced platformer with lots of cool speed techs and even some glitches in the run. The game is based around a mechanic where you can switch between both Cute and Punk Giana at any given point to pass through the various obstacles in each level. Normal Mode is chosen since death penalties on higher difficulties are not marathon safe.

Category: any%
Estimate: 4:00:00

Incentives: Name Endir, Name Setsuna (can name the other party members but that's probably overkill
Description: New game, fairly interesting speedrun but still a work in progress, gotta find the fast strats!

Game: Earthbound
Category: any% glitchless
Estimate: 4:40

Incentives: Leave VA on (I haven't timed the VA but I think that estimate is safe including it), Choose Ending (World Domination or Restore Balance)

Description: Cult classic top-down action rpg about a nobleman who is killed then comes back as a vampire to get his revenge, voice acting is top notch (makes me sad that it's faster to turn it off,) has a unique equipment system.  Run includes almost constant mana management as well as some pickup management to keep quick menus organized, the current route is pretty safe and has almost no chance to game over.

Game: Alundra

Category: any% JP version

Estimate: 5:00:00

Incentives: Game doesn't have any character naming, and nothing really cool that isn't already done in the speedrun. However, there could be a donation incentive for US version. The speedrun is pretty much the same but it's around 30 minutes longer due to dialogue, but also because enemies and bosses have a little more health. I haven't been running US version that much so I don't have a video, but getting used to the US version is not a problem.
The reason US version might be good is because when you fast forward the dialogue in the game, it's still readable. So people would be able to follow the story and everything much better.

Description: The game people didn't care about at the time because most games became 3D, but Alundra for the PS1 is really similar to Zelda: A Link to the Past, but with a much darker story,
and a much longer speedrun. It's a difficult run, but there certainly are marathon friendly strats, and I'll prepare some backup saves just in case as well. If the US version would be considered instead,
it's a bit harder, but still not too bad for a marathon really.
