Tricks, Guides and Patcher:

Quote:
Routing: While this changes all the time mainly due to my segmented run requiring more and more Tiny Improvements to save mere seconds, we do have general routing guides in video form created by Professor Broman,
Part One
Part Two
Part Three

Tricks: can generally be found by either going to my Youtube which has most of the skips / glitches OR you can just read through everything in this thread Smiley or just post your question most of us are perfectly happy to give you the answer.

Patcher:

DrMalcom's V1.8.4 to 1.1.0 Patcher.
Quote from 'drMalcom':
Remove the DLC's you don't need from the DLC folder inside the "data/Bl2_1.8.4_to_1.1.0.xdpatch" directory. I don't know which one is Gaige).

Cbenni's 1.7.0 to 1.6.0 to 1.3.1 to 1.1.0 Patcher: This Patcher will roll your game back to versions 1.7 / 1.6 / 1.3.1 &  1.1.0, should you wish to restore your game to the most recent version you can roll forward using the patcher or let stream update the game itself.
Patcher

VERSION 1.7.0 : If you are rolling back from version 1.7.0 you will need to play the game in offline mode otherwise the game will crash when trying to use more recent files (which are downloaded on start up) on an older game version.

Huge thanks to Cbenni and TheRTB for their previous patchers.

That is pretty awesome, I was not aware of this! I agree with Lilith's last line in the video. I'm suddenly very interested in doing co-op. lol

There was an issue a while ago I had with online games when I had a ton of lag. If I leaned against a wall and jumped, or attempted to change my strafe direction in mid-air, I'd suddenly gain a huge amount of speed and launch across the map. I'm not sure if anyone else had this, and I haven't had it recently so it might've been patched up. I don't feel the need to recommend it any more now that this has been found, but it was something.

In regards to late-game shields, I personally don't look for them due to the sheer damage I'd be taking anyway, being low leveled. If one drops around my level then I'd equip it, but it would only really give me one, maybe two extra hits, which I will admit does have potential to make a difference and prevent a few 2nd winds. But it's really easy to revive yourself when using infinite rockets. Unless, you know, everything runs away or I've accidently killed the last enemy before his bullet hit me, as what tends to happen when I'm running this game.

Although I'm not entirely sure the kinds of shields King Mong drops, I'm thinking that with a single-segment run he should be grinded on until he drops a level 23/24 rocket launcher, as the Badaboom truly makes so much of a difference. I'm still having a thought for an alternate weapon, should he decide not to drop one as it would be a shame to have a run go to waste, but a few extra levels as you're grinding away won't hurt.

I've been thinking more about a segmented run. I might want to get some notes posted online at some point and we can work out the quickest route for one. I'll also need to get my hands on version 1.0, not only to keep the glitches intact, but because Wilhelm had less health that most badasses that were half his level.

EDIT: After testing this new glitch with a friend of mine (flamedragon), we've found that the glitch is difficult to wear off. Picking up a new gun, aiming again or going into a new area does not disable the glitch, and since saving+quitting isn't something we really wish to do on a co-op run, I'm thinking of working on that next. Not sure if I'll be streaming however as my internet is terrible.
Get run'd!!
Just tested Zero today (i stopped when you have to help reiss cause i had 2 badasses on my back).

I tried to take the route you took for Axton, you can't. You clearly lack damage against Flynt and since you have no durability it's really hard to kill him fast.

So what you have to use the sniper rifle you earn from Hammerlock by collecting Bullymong fur.
However you will be only level 4 and you have to be level 5 to use the rifle.
Your level 5 will come when killing one of the Boom brothers.

Also i think it's also a good idea to kill the badass marauder who block you way because with Decepti0n and the sniper, a headshot will kill him.
The rifle is an extremely good weapon if you manage to hit Flynt in the head when you are behind him (throw you Deception then run behind him) : I managed to hit him for 1k+ damage at level 6 (more than 50% of his total hp).
The problem is that he can be quite difficult to aim his head cause he will bash your clone with his anchor.
I'll try to find a way to make him easier to hit.

I will also test if rockets launchers can really crit (cause sometimes it is said that the bullets crited but it dealt the same amout of damage as if it wasn't a crit).
Chfou! Its awesome your working on a route with Zero, I tried it out but due to my horrid lack of sniping capability I couldn't take advantage of Deception at all.  Keep up the awesome work, we won't really know whats best until we've given every character a shot.  Also if every character is different in route and play skill, it could make a really fun speedrun to watch!

Edit: Also working on a bottom threshold for completion of game lvl wise, the further we push it down the quicker the possible times!
Borderlands 2 Glitch Hunter/ router.
Tbh this is just my opinion I believe that the bottom threshold for completing the game is 23 due to the use of the badaboom which in itself is a huge time saver,

say you were at lvl 22 you saved maybe 10 mins by not grinding King mong to get you to lvl 23 however in saving this 10 mins the final fight against Jack / Warrior then takes a significant amount of time longer, the time you saved by not grinding is lost due to being under-leveled (sorry too under-leveled lol we are always UL'd) should equipment be found that can be got reliably each time say a nice lvl 20-22 RL that is still OP and effectively reduces the need for grinding then awesome.

(my opinion only ATM, should things change I'm sure this will too)

Get run'd!!
Professor : I'm not this good at sniping and i still need training. ^^'

I played with Zero a lot and i tested the 3 main builds for him :

The pure melee build is only viable until you hit the bottom of the bloodshed tree : with "The Law" and either "The Order" or "The Love Thumper", Zero can one shot almost any enemy.
However a melee Zero relies on the refresh of his Deception so it's not really useful for a NG speedrun. Also with "The order" you can tank a lot of damage unless the enemy deals you
damage > your hp because the heal you will recieve is higher than your total hp.

The hybrid Zero which uses the Cunning tree is quite the same as the Bloodshed tree : not useful until you grab the kunais but really useful agaisnt every Loader cause you kunais deal elemental damage.

Both of these trees offer some bonus Movement Speed and durability by multiple ways.
One of the main problem is that these build are for melee or short-ranged fights, but Zero is really squishy and has no way to regain health until lvl 21 and at this level you fight mostly Loader so short-ranged fights are not advised against that.

On the other hand, the Sniping tree offers bonus damage for crits, accuracy aim steadiness and bullet damage and bullet speed which can be useful for Torgue weapons.
This tree is focused on ranged fights and i think this is what you want especially against Flynt or Bad Maw.
Plus if you manage to align enemies the Bore skill can kill multiple enemies with only one bullet... and the mark for weak points is really strong.

For Sniper Zero, Deception is good for two things :
- Run away from enemies who are to close
- Start a fight by killing the most resistant enemy with one shot

I'm pretty sure the sniping tree is the best for early game but it falls out late.

I noticed that you can melee Boom-Bewm without problem, just run around one of the brother and bash the melee.
As Zero you normally have the sniper rifle from Hammerlock  (otherwise i wish you good luck for Flynt). So just melee one brother so you can level up 5, level up your skill, equip your sniper and shoot the other brother in the face.

I also think that Zero can be a good charachter for a run to level 50 as you can switch between builds depending on the enemies you will face.
Yeah, I agree, Judgy.

I've been trying to think up good exp or equipment grinding options lately. The thing that's fascinated me off and on is "going backwards" back to a chest or boss. There are several points in the game you can save and quit, go back through the zone crossing you just went through, loot a chest/kill a boss, go back, and save and quit again. I think they're particularly useful for segmented runs, for manipulating a bit of luck:
- Arid Nexus Boneyard fast-travel to Hunter Helquist (the Bee probably drops at too high a level. Pretty quick though, might work as an XP source, maybe in a segmented run.)
- Backing up from Bloodshot Stronghold fast-travel to the Divide and killing Bad Maw, who always drops a blue weapon and a green. (Not so useful, seeing how the Turtles are just down the hall).
- Back up from Bloodshot Ramparts to Bloodshot Stronghold, for the red chest there (a long run, unfortunately)
- You can back up from the Bunker to the top of Thousand Cuts; but the nice red chest is a) guarded by a Badass Constructor and b) a long run. Probably better to grind Bnk3r at that point
- You can grind two red chests this way from the start of the Vault (one in Hero's Pass, at the end, one in secret under lava at the Vault) but anything you get would be too high level

You can't back up on Captain Flynt (dumps you in the harbor), the Thresher & Jack's double (both disappear), Slab King, Bloodwing/moth, Mortar, Atlas (middle of level) and BNK3R & Wilhelm (no U-turns/no way back). You can farm Bnk3r and Wilhelm, though.

Also, the chests open:
- in WEP at level 20;
- in Slab Town at level 20/21;
- in Opportunity at level 22/23 (but the mobs can be 24 and can drop 24; Foreman Jasper is 25);
- then on top of Thousand Cuts at level 24.
- Lynchwood is 25+
- Sawtooth Cauldron is 26+
- I think the Dust and Caustic Caverns (re)sets to around level 21/20 (IIRC)

Interesting missions around this level, for equipment:
- Rakkaholics Anonymous (pretty quick lvl21 car mission in the Dust, get Rubi or Sloth as a result)
- Slap-Happy (from Hammerlock, kill a thresher in Highlands Outwash, get a decent-looking level 20 shotgun);
- Animal Rights (in WEP; level 19 sniper as a reward, but means running WEP again)
- The Clan War (in the Dust & Highlands; looooong but interesting because you can net a x4 level 18-ish inaccurate shotgun called the "Landscaper" that'd work well with the glitch)
- Note for Self-Person (in the Fridge; Vortale ran this already, lvl 17, rocket launcher, long to set up)
- Poetic License (in Slab Town; Vortale runs this)

One last side note: I noticed that from Highlands - Outwash, during Bright Lights Flying City, you can run out to Highlands, get in a car, drive allll the way around back to Outwash, then approach the door with the Constructor. This will trigger the thresher fight. The door will never open. Not faster in any way, but interesting to note as a sidestep around triggers.
I supposed the lvl grinding I was doing needs some further explination.  Most of what we are working on here are awesome for RTA or Segmented runs but in the interest of running a SS where (I'm Assuming) save reloading is prohibited.  I think it would be a good idea to find out what lvls and things can be quickly attained without resetting multiple times in the run.  I don't know if anyone else was considering a SS but it would be awesome if we could break this game or route it so well that a SS would be possible.

Also, usernameguy backtracking is a great idea, especially when running low on cash or just in hopes of some nice RNG.  In the end it may even save time to go back and grind a chest or two! Worth testing out for sure!
Single segments that save and quit will be "single segments with resets" runs by SDA rules, if I understand correctly.

I tend to think grinding chests will only be useful in a segmented run, for luck manipulation. But maybe in some single-segment routes, it'd be better to grind a chest than engage in a long fight, if you're looking for equipment.

O.K in ProBro's latest stream he was nice enough to test out a new low level route I had been playing around with ( starts around 45:50 ) [It's me talking to him on chat explaining he loses some time from reading what to do next]

http://www.twitch.tv/professorbroman/b/362629154

Route notes:

Start all is normal up until Liarsberg (Spelling)

After clearing the town objective is complete and Sir Hammerlock Starts his dialog Immediately go to the graveyard and farm Bullymongs until Hammerlock says "I'm sorry but when claptrap speaks...." and make your way to him.

After handing Claptraps' eye to S-H Grind some more bullymongs until they start moving its about 20 seconds after "Wait for power" appears as your objective.

Hand in the quest and grab the Clearing Out quest run to the gate and activate it so claptrap moves further down the cliff then do the clearing out quest for EXP and the hope of getting a good Assault rifle as a reward.

After this run to Claptrap and continue the quest as normal up to flynt once flynt is defeated board the ship and go to 3 horns Divide.

On entering 3.H.D Turn completely around and use the Warp to go back to Southern Shelf, Once back in S-S Save + Load to respawn Boom-bewm and grind it out to 8 or 9 if you prefer.

This Removes the need for doing additional quests once you get to Sanctum so you only need to do story missions.

It takes around 36~mins to get to lvl 8 using this method (once you know what your doing)

Huge thanks to Probro for trying this out on his stream too Smiley

###Edit You can cut across the gap in the ice when grinding BB by bunny hoping basically you only take damage while your feet are on the ground so hop hop hop

Also broman don't use a Explosive shotgun against boom-ewm they are explosive type and take reduced damage Tongue

What we thought would be Absolutely ridiculous Probro, I managed to do
LEVEL 10 IN UNDER AN HOUR!!

i only played game alot but not speedrunned it. watched Your run stream archives and replayed few starting story missions myself on BL2 xbox version. got few suggestions.

use teidore reloads on Boomboom, Flynt and stationary enemies (theyre available from first weapon shop next to Hammerlock's house and this shop is active before Hammerlock activates main power). on early enemies, its one hit kill, very good for grenade-suicide bandits. better results when playing on console with gamepad than on PC.

something to consider about loot grinding is that it appears boss enemies more often drop rare items when character is lower in levels. also it appears game may have some hidden counter (stored with savegame) about how many times that character killed this boss and will prevent dropping better loot multiple times.

my other theory about random enemies spawning is that it may be related with how much system is loaded at the moment so i.e. it spawns less emenies when system performance is low.
also some part of game cache is preserved across sessions with Quit-Save trick, so exiting the game to desktop may be more efficient for getting rare enemies to spawn. tested this one time when i was grinding for Jimmy Jenkings to spawn (Achievement related).

I noticed in test runs that speedrun gets more difficult in later hours in the game even with infinite ammo glitch. i dont have good suggestion here but maybe using acid weapon.
for example Vladof sniper rifle or TMP pistol, and it with acid elemental effect (Jackobs waepons can fire fast but, unlike Vladof, doesnt have elemental effects on them).
since speedrun is mostly running story missions, main enemies that fought are hyperion robots.
Get run'd!!
ikk : Personally i still recommend using a Jakobs sniper rifle because even if they don't have elemental effects, Jakobs weapons deal the biggest damage in one single than the other weapons (especially for the sniper rifles).

Elemental weapons are still extremely useful if you know what kind of enemy you will face. However each time i take a sniper rifle, my motto is "One shot, one kill" so i really need a huge damage weapon. The damage per bullet plus the bonus from crit if you know your enemies' weak points can take down easily the strongest of your opponent.
LVL 10 under an hour!!!!!!!!

Edit: today I learned that co-op runs are a different beast entirely and need to be thought out so it dosen't degenerate into the partners screaming at each other LOL....;)

Had a bit of an issue last night while playing doing the Infinite Ammo glitch the glitch would activate on all weapons OTHER!! than the rocket launchers it would remain active until i switched to a RL it would then start using ammo again :S anyone else seen this happen?
Are you sure it wasn't a vladof launcher?

yeah it wasn't a Vladof i was switching to, It might have been cause by attempting and failing the switching method shown to use by a guy in stream chat, instead of using the Pick up method. It seems to have bricked the entire character from using RL's with the glitch Sad

###Edit

I've been sorting out the Wiki page for borderlands 2 so we actually have somewhere we can find everything easily.

Feel free to add anything you feel needs to be added If I have not explained things well enough or whatever. Not all links work as I need to make some Demo videos for certain glitches. (will also do the Route stuff tomorrow too)

New run Type "NG with Arguments"

also probro i had a bit of a think and wondered what the effect would be if you lined up 2 seperate vladof's into their "free shot" positions swapped one out activating the glitch then switched to the other and did it again (could we reduce it by 2 making E-techs usable?) I will do some testing of my own however, your testing seems to be a lot more in depth than my own and you seem to get results i don't lol

...... Flabbergasted .... thats all I'm saying lol.... For now

Method:

You need 2 X Vladof Rocket Launchers (with consumes less ammo)
Full Backpack

Drop two weapons you wish to pick up and fill you inventory with accessories you have equiped (grenades, class mods, W/E)
Shoot Both the Vladof's so that they are both on their "Free shot" then switch each gun out with one on the floor and Boom !! Ammo Consumption = -2

So now E-Tech Weapons are viable you  could do it with 3 rocket launchers to use X3 ammo per shot weapons Hopefully I can find a way to make it spill over to Gunzerkers secondary weapon which would be nice

##Edit: Tested Working with 3 RL's, I tried With 4 but it seemed a bit "On and Off" some times it worked some times it didn't, however, I did have 1 "uneven" RL (on 3 of them 2nd shot was free, and on 1 the 3rd shot was free) so that might have been causing it.

Additional thought if you have 2 RL's with free shots in the same place (Eg. both have the 2nd shot "free") gunzerk fire 1 round from each so they are both on their free shot use the other ammo glitch method by swapping out weapon sets (without dropping them) and see if both hands get infinite ammo. Generally i can't get the glitch to work the other way...... so yeah....
Hey everyone! So I did a crazy low lvl run, feel free to watch it and farm for some more ideas! Some more successful strats are certainly needed for killing the Buzzards in sawtooth cauldron for sure.  I thought mine were safe they were not.... anyway watch and enjoy!

Sweet! You have done a good thing this day. *gives you the confetti*
Haha, that looks like crazy fun! I'd totally do a run of this even if it was just to mess around and make myself wish I was playing Quake instead. Out of curiosity, how did you manage to get such a high level of badassary?
I grinded the badass rank glitch for 200 years. (I used a cheatengine table)

I was just messing around with the Infinite Ammo trick and found out you don't have to have a full backpack. Just equip the Rocket Launcher, shoot and immediately drop it (And then you can just pick it up again), and you've got infinite ammo Smiley As a matter of fact, you can even make it so that you can gain ammo while shooting any gun Tongue I'm not precisely sure how, I think you need to activate the trick and then equip the Rocket Launcher again and shoot twice and then drop it, or something. Maybe just equiping it again and dropping it right away. I quickly made a video about it (Don't mind the crappy FPS. Apparently BL2 doesn't like it when I ALT-TAB, start Fraps, and then back into the game and record stuff).

Thanks for the shoutout Prof!

So what do you think is the fastest possible minimal level, after this run? 23? 24? 25? Seems like a corrosive 18+ weapon of some sort is needed past, say, Slab Town. Might be worth some save-and-quits in Opportunity just to farm the Gun store.

A little routing optimization: on your way to WEP, take a right into Thousands Cuts, and get the Fast Travel there. Then fast travel back to Highlands - Hyperion Bridge, then drive on to WEP. Just so you don't have to drive there again after WEP. Maybe this trick would even save time going to Opportunity and WEP as well.

Random idea on the Info Stockade skip: have we tried saving and quitting after the skip, then doing the skip again? It may fix up the triggers upon load, to prevent inconsistent state. (Sounds nutty, but I've seen stranger things in programs.)

Bloody hell nice work there Thevoid I worked on getting further ammo increase and the method is as follows

1:fire + drop
2:pick up (holding space to equip) and wait for ammo counter to register and then drop it again
3: repeat stage 2

In the following video i dropped the "free shot" launcher 18 times, (actually 21 but 3 were too soon) as the "free shot" moves to the first shot when you Equip the weapon from picking it up, you just drop it again, and again, and again to get more negative ammo (oxymoron there I know) fact is once your on the "free shot" the first time you don't even have to do it quickly.

Watch my SMG ammo ; ) (skip to 1:20 to skip most of the Dropping + picking up

That is -18 ammo usage making it add 17 ammo per shot If you used your vladoff now it would take 17 shots to deactivate the glitch lol

Will be attempting a NG - Single Seg run today will be my first one so don't expect anything ridiculously quick I will record it using Xsplit but i won't be broadcasting as my internet is not good enough to hold up for an hour straight atm let alone 5:30 lol wish me luck (should the run be worth anything at all I may upload it however chances of this are very low)
Well enjoy the new way to get the infinite ammo PC folks! I think that put the final nail in the coffin for me for a solo xbox record run. DOSEN'T MEAN I WON'T STOP TRYING! Because as we know if i can beat your time on xbox...then you better step your PC game up.  (so without all my messy screw ups that would be about 5:25) Enjoy crushing my dreams PC master race Wink

Also I will be working on some solid buzzard strats for everyone, because sit around and pray inside a tiny hut is not cutting it for me.
