SKIP TO THE BOTTOM IF YOU WANT TO SEE MY SUGGESTION:

I'm new to the quake speed scene, i play mostly quakeworld and am quite well known for my tricks and speed on quakeworld.  I use the names [glb]BogoJoker[/glb] and [glb].JJ.[/glb]

I recently started the quake speed scene with some help from this site mostly, special thanks to [glb]Stubgaard[/glb] (sorry about these names, yes i'm getting to know them) for a basic configuration that was perfect for me, and [glb]the Nolans and the rest of this sites team[/glb] for keeping constant updates and GETTING ME INTRESTED!!

Ok, enough of that:

So far i have worked on e1m1 and e1m2.  I have gotten close (as i'm sure everyone has) to matching those easy runs (not 100% Yet).  The e1m1 record was exactly as i planned it, but i came to find out it requires more than a confident attidutude... it requires a lot of quake physic practice, much different from quakeworld.

E1M2 SUGGESTION:

[glb]Easy Run:[/glb] I noticed in the record time, it took the player 3 jumps to get accross to the otherside, landing at the 2nd step on the stairs.  My method is 1 Long jump which i will explain:
(Spawn) IMMEDIATLY FIRE, getting the ogre's attention.
IMMEDIATLY move to the right and forward, jump off the corner of the stairs which is sticking up out of the ground (easily noticable).  Land on top of the ogre slideing off infront of him.  This method may have been metioned before and may save time, i'm not expiernced and felt suggesting it would be nice.

[glb]Easy 100%:[/glb]  You can perform the start listed above (useing the left stairs corner), the first shot hitting the grunt and shooting the grunt again while sliding over the ogre.  Very effective but very difficult to pull off for me becuase i rely mainly on left oriented strafe jumps. [glb] ANOTHER[/glb] possibility.  Follow me:

Kill 1st grunt, run past first ogre.  Kill 2nd grunt.  Grab ssg.  Encounter SUBJECT-A = (A) which is the second ogre.  In the record run the player takes 4 ssg to kill this ogre.  I was able to pull of a trick, shooting the ogre once or twice with the ssg, stunning him and meeting him later at the end with the other 2 ogres!!!  Now i dont know the actual reasons but i have figured this much:

Grab the ssg.  Entering the corsswalk area (BEFORE NAIL TRAPS) Shoot the Ogre once or Twice BEFORE ENTERING the nail trap area.  If you stun the ogre... it appears you can run past them adn they will alk out to the ssg area.  If all goes well (shoot the Yellow armor ogre 2-4 times, kill grunt, grab key, kill yellow armor ogre, enter secret tele).  AS SOON AS YOU COME OUT OF THAT TELE: Look left to dive in the water but shoot a blatent ssg shot, this will hit that previously mentioned ogre (SUBJECT-A) and will cause him to follow the bullets and the other ogres.  Countinue as planned with the record demo and he should be grouped with the other ogres at the end.

I dont know how effecive this will be, or how capable it is to pull off.  I have had a lot of trouble with the first ogre making it to the silver door, he seems to get trapped over the water secret.

I Figure that 1 SSG + 1 Quad SSG shot is better than 4 SSG shots.  But i am sure planning is big.  I got 53 seconds.

I can post a demo for all these:
e1m1 easy run
e1m2 easy run (Not bad, just need to get those knights to boost me)
e1m2 100% run: i have some wihtout my tip mentionded above and some with.

Hell is where the heart is.
I'd be interested in seeing your demos. Apart from anything else, we can add your e1m1 to the bunny comparison page. :-)
Hey Ho Let's Go
Yeah, I'm interrested in seeing your demos too! Feel free to send them to SDA.

Cool.  I'll post my demos soon.

I just gotta scout for the good ones and rename them.

They should be sent in a couple days.

I dont know how to post them on this forum though. (No link to send them, am i dont know how :P).

Thanks.  TRY IT OUT!!! I wanna see if this improves the time maybe half a second.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
First of all I want to say that I consider E1M2_030 optimal. There are some fragments to be earned here and there, but not enought to earn an entire second. I messed around alittle in the start, and although a good suggestion, I do not believe going over the Ogre is optimal. It's a question of where you land in the stairs (past the Ogre) that will determine how fast you can go in the start. I got the best results when I jumped from the top of the stairs, went to the right of the Ogre, and wallhugged up the stairs. This is optimal for the start I believe. I ran alittle on the Easy Run, and got a lowish :32 pretty fast. The worst part is that my :32 looked pretty slick, so gaining another like 2,5 seconds would seem to be impossible. I didn't get the knightboost, and was slightly slow in the nail-trap area (going around - not "under" the sharp right-turn).

The knightboost is about the only boost on the map, and the open spaces are not far enough to earn fractions on bunny jumping, it's mostly 1-2 jumps, then some wallhugging, and butting a door etc. I think it's optimal, but I guess never say never, right? =)

Hehe, wow i just made a run which could not have been more perfect for explaining my concept.  i will post that very soon (tonight).

I also wanna know if it can be possible kill the yellow armor ogre faster.  The record uses 4 regular boomstick shots.  I wanna know if 2 or 3 sg shots with a ssg shot would improve the speed.  Better yet.  2 sg shots, and 1 ssg shot which will bait the ogre over to the nail gun traps.  if performed ideally as you come out from under the silver key the ogre will be on the left, directly above the secret teleporter, perfect for maximum damage with the ssg even if the ogre gets stunned and bends over.

I think that this strategy (the ORIGINAL post) could create an ogre greande boost at the end, fighting Both ogres (as you will witness in my demo), raises the chances that one might toss a greande to boost you past the fiend for a fast finish.

I can't wait to post that demo, it clearly demonstrates my concept.

I have 2 questions:

[glb]e1m2 100% easy:[/glb]
What is the fastest way to push the button by the fiend and run back to kill the ogre/ ogres.  Should I:
a)leave a grunt for a slight boost, killng him from a long distance on the return
b)perform a nonstop bunny sequence in a circle, pushing the button and returning (which i do currently)
c)push the button running/landing a jump, turn and start a bunny hop back
d)alternate route

[glb]e1m2 easy run question:[/glb]
Another question:  I have not been able to execute this very well, it may be pointless.  Run past the ogre and grunt as you wish.  Coming up the stairs approaching the 2nd grunt SHOOT, getting its attention and take a boost off of the grunts shot.  If an experienced player can try this for just a minute or two and tell me if its worth doing i will try this out.

Thanks for helping me out and commenting.  I will do my best to post those demos tonight... IF I CAN GET ON THE COMPUTER.  Cry

Okay. after re-reading Ripah's suggestion:

If you perform your style, urnning past the ogre the monsters are not involved.  A-okay.  If you shoot first (THIS IS COMPLETELY NOT TESTED) you could get the ogre to axe you and boost you.  I perform this style in the 100% but havent tested it wihtout focused shooting at the grunt.

Almost every time when i practice i am able to get the ogre to boost me with his chainsaw almost directly to the 2nd step.

If it gets in your way forgot about.
This is almost useless, gaining fractions of a second but I think its Cooler and any improvement off the record time is optimal.

Combine this with my suggestion for "e1m2 easy run" directly above this comment to get possibly the Best e1m2 starting time? !!
You can jump onto the ogre at the start without using the trim on the stairs.
