mortyrer45 suggested earlier today that we localize anri and i thought, why not? so i extracted all the english strings and put them in a separate file.

if anyone wants to translate anri just translate this stuff, e.g. if it says:
Code:
$lang{FILES_APPEAR_IN} = 'All files associated with this project will appear in: ';

then you give me (if this is a german translation):
Code:
$lang{FILES_APPEAR_IN} = 'Alle mit diesem Projekt zugehörige Daten erscheinen unter: ';

you can submit the translation here, in its own topic or on the kb if you have an account (as e.g. lang_yourlanguage.pl). feel free to ask me any questions.

thanks.

Sounds good. I'll start working ona Finnish translation immediately... just one question: What does "ON HERMESUS LUC ARSUS ESTARIAS AUC ELTRAS LI CELES!" mean?

Edit: Oh yeah, and I hope Anri-chan just loooves umlauts, seeing there will be a lot of them.

I have no solution, but i admire the problem.
i'll start translating this into german, although probably rather a few lines from time to time during elevator rides in TJ&E  Roll Eyes , so if anyone wants to participate, i'd suggest you work your way up from the bottom Wink

that sounds a bit like bad latin to me, but even google doesn't know what it really is  Shocked

oh, yeah, i guess i'll wait until nate says if whether anri-chan accepts umlauts. don't want to rewrite everything.

This make the project more international activity I had hope, thanks.
thank you very much for your interest in localizing anri.

that "ON HERMESUS..." is something the original anri-chan says, from the anime called happiness!. it's a magical incantation for duplicating oneself. so i am anri, and when i decided to start this project i wanted to duplicate myself as a software package that you could run on your own computer. you can simply leave it alone when translating - i'm sure it doesn't mean anything.

i will most definitely try to display extended latin characters such as umlauts, accents grave, etc. so you should write with umlauts and other accents. if all else fails and the windoze cmd.exe for some reason cannot be made to display accents (which i highly doubt), then i can simply run a translation on the language file before displaying it, e.g. in perl,
Code:
s/ü/ue/;

this means replace all ü with ue. but it will still be ü in the language file, just displayed as ue. however i can't replace all ue with ü because that might replace some things incorrectly, which is why it's important to write the original file with proper accents. i hope that makes sense.

Should the [Y] [N] for yes/no options in the strings be translated into the proper letters or be left as is due to interface limitations?
I have no solution, but i admire the problem.
Done! Translating is the perfect side-occupation when watching a music-DVD Wink
I tried to make the translation as easily understandable and as technically adequate as possible, but i often didn't know the exact context, so some lines might either sound awkward or lead to the user making the wrong input.

I guess at the current state, the interface would only accept y/n. The question is if localizing this is worth the work. Most users in germany for example know y/n or could at least easily understand and adapt it. I just left it as y/n.

awesome sorcerer. it will be good to launch alpha 1 with at least one other language to advertise the functionality.

and that (about the y/n) is a very good question. until yesterday i was thinking leave them y/n but then for my foundations of tech comm class i read an article that said basically, that's tacky. and thinking about it now i think it may be possible to do it in a generic way, so that you only have to translate y and n once and it's that way for the rest of the program. i'll look at it now.
ok, i updated the english and german pages to have "y" and "n" as localizable strings. i hope j/n is ok for german.
quite a few technical words that might be hard to translate but I'll give it a go.
feel free to ask about anything, of course.

Alright here comes the swedish translation.

I'm so used to mixing in English words of technical terms, when speaking about technical topics, that it took a while before I found the proper translations for some of the words Smiley

thanks! posted! we have a lot of swedish community members so i'm sure this localization will be well-used!

Reading through it now I notice that I missed translating one small thing.

$lang{MAINMENU} = "Main";

should be

$lang{MAINMENU} = "Huvudmeny";

Yarr
Here is my Dutch translation.

Some remarks on the script:

- "(the clip at the start of an SDA video)", shouldn't it be like "(the clip at the start and end of an SDA video)"?
- In the avi_dir_load_info question, you don't use quotes in the example, but then you say that you can leave out the quotes. Roll Eyes
- You use the terms "Anri's database" and "SDA's database". Are these the same?
- It seems that a lot of sentences are longer in Dutch than they are in English, so there may be some weird line breaks.
Attachment:
thanks!!

- yes, it should. i've changed this in lang_english.
- yes iirc dex pointed this out yesterday as well and already changed it in lang_english.
- they are. fixed.
- i'm hoping to get a text output function written so that there will be no weird spacing or word breaking issues like we had with doze batch anri.
Yarr
I updated the script and fixed a typo. About the quotes, compare these two lines:

$lang{AVI_PATH_TO} = 'Path to source video file e.g. "c:\path to\video.avi" without quotes.';
$lang{AVI_DIR_LOAD_INFO} = 'Enter the path to the avi folder e.g. c:\my video folder\ without quotes.';

That's what I meant.
Attachment:
oops. guess he saw one and not the other. fixed.
Yarr
New script attached. But what purpose did those backslashes have? Was it to make sure that the " isn't interpretted as the end of the string?
Attachment:
yes. not needed if using 'single quotes'. updated.
I love speedrunning and revealing bugs
I started translating Anri in Czech. I want to test it by myself. How can I put my translation in Anri? Shall I send it here to get new anri.bat from nate? Smiley
cool, glad to have you aboard. the localization is only for anri 4 (completely rewritten in perl). we're hoping to have the first alpha release ready soon.
I love speedrunning and revealing bugs
Nate, you must be very busy answering all the posts here. Only my questions must have taken about an hour of your life Smiley

So I will translate it as good as I can and then wait for Anri 4 (to see how bad my translation is Smiley )
