I agree with this. Most of the time, it's not really that scary any more, but when you make a mistake during a trick and have to run from a monster, it can get a bit creepy again. My favourite example of this would be this video
lol I remember when it happen to me I wanted to never play this game again and in the same time I was happy that it was filmed but this was probably one of the beast example that happen to me yeah .
Hey I just died in the sewer in a run that was 1 minute 3 seconds faster than my older one, which prove that sub 30 will be hard but possible (sadly the run was perfect, it's sad that I died in the rock slide ).
BTW, Yesterday I did an attempt of my 100% run and here how it turn out: This is the plan of the SS of my 100% of this game, sorry for the segmentation between the Archive tunnels and the Back Hall 1 but I tried to see if the Lag spike were going to stop and like they didn't I decided to reboot my computer(that wasn't for the purpose of segmenting and at the same time sorry for the lag spike between Archive and Back hall). In this plan I totally miss the Chancel but don't worry, I'll have those two notes in my final product. At the same time, Hex-, a good example of what you were saying is there in the norther prison, I'm proud that I actually finish this up, I was shaking for a long part after the northern prison.
BTW, to everyone the prison really worth a see I'll write the time soon in the run soon. Edit: should be around 26 minutes exactly(the beginning of it).

Man, Cellar Archives was a really close call at the end, too! Why did you go to the Study first, by the way? Does the new glitch to jump up make it quicker despite the damage?

The glitch in the transept is no more useful, after some testing I realized it was slower as for skipping the cinematic(it's a second slower than the one with glitch) so here's a video of a really bad quality that show it.
Apjjm, I NEED YOUR HELP!!! I'm starting to get this OOB trick and the jump in the cells very reliable(like 80%) and I wanted to know how do you finish this part, I always end up falling, I have a video to show the consistency and to show the way I take in the cells since I never saw you going this glitch so I can't tell what path you're taking but the path doesn't matter I need the route from the jump up to the door, it would be very kind if you could upload a video or something like this of this part, thanks a lot in advance!!!
It'll depend on how reliable I'm going to do the end of it, I practice like a sick to get this reliable. If I'm going to be good performing the end of it, this could be a 10 to 20 seconds timesaver.
BTW, first part of Apjjm segmented speedrun, really worth it, aside from a couple of boost, this is totally perfect and if you check at 5:17, you'll see the trick I'll never tackle in a SS:
Sorry for my lack of updates and such here - been busy at uni with some projects (and also The Darkness II came out) so haven't really done much :P.
Regarding the cells OOB skip: The last bit of the cells skip is why i don't do it in practice runs - there is probably some kind of "knack" to performing it but in all my attempts it has a huge element of luck (which i why i don't practice it anymore as i might as well just get lucky once in the segmented run). I might stream a practice session though tonight or tomorrow (As i havent played the game in about a week or two) and attempt this part.
Transept skip: may be faster for me in my segmented run as I can save-warp the door - i will have a play about with this.
Spade trick justine: If you perform this on the other side of the room, if you fail dragging the spade OOB you can re-try without loosing it in the graveyard room. It is harder to dig through the wall on this side in the first place though. I was starting to get this trick somewhat reliably last time I played in justine.
In other news, i've been playing about with "flying" (like that in the HL2 games), it's annoyingly hard with most of the standard props (i can get, at best, about 4 jumps off) but may have a use somewhere. I also may have a(nother) new route in the storage for my segmented run but i haven't been able to perform it anywhere near cleanly enough to time it so i'm not really sure if it is faster yet.
For Uni, I understand this(me all of our Universities of the city fall on strike like 4 days ago(so more free time for friends and speedrunning(yeah!))), for darkness, when it went out, I though of you . I never played this game but seems like it's way too broken .
About the Cells: I'm currently finding a route that may be reliable but opening the door is a pain. I'll check if I can somehow get it well and if I can I'll upload a video about it.
Transept: with the save glitch I test it out and yeah it's definitely faster, I was talking in the SS that every way to skip the cinematics(even the first one) is slower in a SS.
Justine: I usually never have any problem with spade glitch, I've done at really strange place sometime.
I've been able to jump successively like 3 or 4 times with item like box, barrel, chest but the only thing I've been able to fly with, is the upper body of the dead grunt in the sewer.
so overall, I'm going to test the new Justine route and a wannabe reliable route in the cells and I'll comeback on this.
I managed to get a big boost in the sewers during an earlier stream tonight. It's right after the hard glitch there (which I, ironically, get more consistently than something as trivial as the Choir nowadays..). This might be very interested for the segmented run, Apjjm.
No, I'm not suppose to do voluntary, I think it happen once or twice in the whole run but this wasn't voluntary(the reason why I don't use the stair boost in the entrance hall).
btw, I don't advice Apjjm getting a boost at every places possible in the game(I even advice him to forget all the ones I post earlier), you can actually get a boost almost everywhere in the game. That's why(Even if it won't ever be possible) that a TAS of this game would be insane.
I'm going to continue to make progress with segments for now and attempt as many boosts as I can get. At the end of the run I will re-vist the entrance hall & old archives for improvements. With regards to what boosts I will use it really depends on how hard they are, and where abouts in the segment they are (I.e. unless i get lucky with the entrance i might have to stick with the segment I have - I was planning on re-doing old archives anyway as that could be faster without a boost so i might as well try it with) Only a few weeks at uni until I get a 4 week break so I'll hopefully get up to the nave by the end of easter.
On the plus side for the upcoming set, The machine room will at least be a little shorter with the save-warp :P.
Ok, it's been a while since I didn't post in this, just wanted to say that I won't work on this game anymore sadly. I cannot play and record the game during more than 11 minutes without having a crap load of lag spike, my last run today(that contain lag spike for over 13 minutes) have a final time of 30:21, so I invite everybody to destroy my SS of this game, the only thing I ask before someone submit a SS any% of this, is that the run sub30 since it's greatly possible. Maybe I'll work on a segmented 100% but I doubt that very much and the only way I could restart running this is buying a new comptuter(which I think isn't really the problem since my computer is only doing this with amnesia and L4D 1 and 2)
BTW, since I didn't found that strat back on your stream Apjjm, I decided to take it form my today's run, you should show how to do it without taking damage, I never succeed it.

That's a shame :(. Are you using fraps? If so try using the latest playclaw (the beta build on the forum) and/or lowering recording framerate to 30 fps if you are recording at a higher rate. I've switched over from fraps and it's fixed some issues for me (issues with recording the loading screens). Some lag spikes in amnesia are unavoidable anyway though, the scripts don't always pre-load all the sounds are particle effects. Other than that i can really only suggest making sure your HDD isn't too full or fragmented, as it seems it's finding it harder to write after a period of time. You could also try testing out DxTory if it is a HDD issue as that has the ability to split the recording over different disk drives. Anyway good luck with whatever you do next if you can't get it fixed.
With regards to not taking damage, IIRC you have to hold A + W as you go around the wall, but it is a luck thing (Again :P). When you know exactly what to do it's still not a 100% trick but I can usually get after a few tries.
With regards to my run I have two segments done in the backhall area (yes, only two). Currently one segment is giving me real trouble (probably spent about 3 hours on this segment today - each attempt takes between 1->10 seconds, so that is around 2.5k attempts today alone), and I recently found I could do a different boost to make it marginally faster but also even harder. I might have to introduce a segment in the middle, but I don't want to as did it today but died like a retard because I was so happy I got all the tricks :P.
I'm using screenflow(since I'm on a mac), I think my HDD might be a little old(my computer is 4 years old :S ), I've already tried to record on my external HDD, aside from super meat boy, every other games were worst, also since I'm on a mac, my HDD doesn't frag so that is not the problem, I'll try to find a fix within the next days but I'm tired getting a perfect run then right after the choir having huge lag spike when most of the hardest glitches are already done(entrance Hall, Sewer, nave, nave 2). For my 100%, I'm not that motivated since I have the impression that the 8 months of work I gave on amnesia was all done for almost nothing, which is really sad too. I'll try to do something but if it doesn't work, I'll have to wait.
It would be a dead shame if you'd give up on running Amnesia. If it worked properly earlier on, I see no reason why it would suddenly be so bad (other than, indeed, an actual hardware issue). You should try to figure out what could be wrong, because it would be a major bummer if 8 months of hard work wouldn't result in a run. Have you contacted Apple about it? Maybe they could help you out?

Upon finding that I could replace the final boost of my segment with a ridiculous-curve-under-roof-around-ledge boost i decided to pussy out and put a segment in as taking the old-new route would cost about 3 seconds in comparison to the .5s save penalty. Seriously, this new route makes my the storage route in my old speedrun look SS friendly :P. Even with the segment it took me a good few hours cranking out the two new 3.3s and 5.6s segments with non-stop attempts. Expect a video of the storage so far up shortly.
Other news, I've started the 100% segmented run, I currently have 5 segments(2 that are improvable in my opinion). The storage is a boost fest by the way, once, I've succeeded to boost 7 times in a SS, in the 100%, I'll aim for 12( if I remembering them correctly), the strat you used in the storage, don't tell me you boost from the roof up to the rod :O . If yes, I definitely quit this game . If not, what your new route for it?
BTW, before I stop my SS, I was practicing your old Storage route to make it "SS friendly" .

I also put up a couple of still pictures showing map of what is happening in the segmented are at the end - the floor i bounce on is invisible is because it is an extended ceiling and is only rendered from underneath. This section wouldn't be quite so annoying if i didn't have to be perfect in execution in order to be as fast as possible to justify the incredibly short segment length.
