I've submitted Wand of Gamelon twice, and I am just wondering if I could get some feedback on how to make the run more appealing for a marathon? I'm worried that it might be being seen as a joke submission, when in fact it is the submission I take the most seriously. The game is pretty complex, I feel like it appeals to people as sort of a "oh my god, I can't believe someone is playing that" entry, and a pretty easy donation incentive for the handful of cutscenes. I gave quite a generous estimate. Would lowering the estimates to 40 min and 45 min for any% and any% w/ cutscenes make it more well-received? Or is this just a goal I should abandon entirely?

so, I have no idea how difficult it would ACTUALLY be to do this, but I wonder if some of the issue is that it's a CDi game? Since it's another console they'd have to integrate into the set up and all. I doubt it's the sole issue, but I would imagine it does not help the game's appeal.

Will the final accepted games list be revealed all at once? Or will it be in waves, similarly to the way round 1 was handled?

Just wondering if I should still be spending time refreshing every day Smiley

Also:
If we edit our availability, will that affect our submission status? If not, how can we edit it? I can't seem to find out how.
Editing your availability dates will not affect your submission status. Feel free to do so by clicking on the button to edit any of your non-rejected submissions.

The final game list will be announced and it won't be for a while.
I'd imagine - or at least hope - it's sooner rather than later, considering the registration deadline for runners is in 8 days...

They'll push back the registration deadline if they have to. I'm more worried about plane/hotel booking.
I apologize if this question has been answered, but can you explain the waitlist process?

I submitted Mega Man glitchless, and dxtr and myself were waitlisted (he submitted any%). I was just wondering the thinking here for waitlisting two different categories in the same game. Obviously both would not be accepted. Is the thinking that the event is unsure which category it would want? And would it consider changing to a race depending on the category chosen and offering the other person a shot as well?

Also, some people seemed to insinuate that waitlisted runs can be added pretty late due to withdraws and such. Does that mean I could be hearing like a week before GDQ that I am running?

Sorry I know that is a lot of questions! I will be there regardless and am really looking forward to the event. Thanks guys for all your work!

Also, quick rant. I try to stay away from forums and comment sections on the internet for clearly obvious reasons. I find a lot of the commentary in here really childish and offensive. I get that is sucks to have all your runs rejected. I've been on both ends of things, getting a run in and not getting any runs in. It is silly to take this kind of rejection personally though. There are a lot of hard working people working on choosing these submissions and are in no way trying to downplay anyone's accomplishments in the speed running community.

Telling the committee that if they progress the one category you didn't want to run that you will withdraw? Don't submit it in the first place. Remember that the event is for charity and a great cause, that we are all going to have a blast if we allow ourselves to, and to encourage and root for other speed runners. Take this as an opportunity to mature and grow and not to stomp your feet because something didn't work out. Keep working hard and it will.

Just my thoughts. I'm really thankful for these events and get a little salty about all the complaining and conspiracy theories. Thanks for all the hard work you guys do despite it going unappreciated a lot of the time.
Crawlathon WR, get down on my level.

Our official requirement is 1 week after the final list and notifications go out to runners. You will see a note in your profile and you should also receive an email when those notifications are sent out.

So... about my God Hand Easy NG run progressing, dunno who's idea it was to progress ONLY the most boring run of the three instead of making it a bidding war between categories so that NG+ KMS could rake in some money. If this remains as is go ahead and cancel my submission, everything as it's gone so far is a joke anyway.

The status of your run has been changed to reflect your withdrawal.

It's basically kind of a heads up that we're interested in your run for this marathon as a substitute.  If/when someone drops their game due to unforeseen circumstances or a change of heart (which happens often), the waitlist comes in handy there to fill in slots.

These requests can happen at various times prior to (and in some cases, during) the marathon.  We can't really give a timeframe; it happens when accepted runners decide they should drop out.  We would love to give as much advance notice as possible.

Races are determined on an individual basis and depends on the game.  It's unlikely we'll accept a race if the setup time will take longer than the run itself or if we feel the race might be a blowout. In addition to this, we'd like the race to be easy to understand (for instance, who is in the lead), and be easily supported with good commentary.  Regarding what category would be chosen, I believe it depends on the timeslot that is available (though you both listed the same estimate, his any% PB is 19:09, and your glitchless PB is 24:36).

I hope this helps a little.

Thank you so much for the quick response. Yeah the times we have are much different obviously because of different categories (and he is better than me :P). I wouldn't mind learning any% for a race but I realize that is probably too late. I was just curious if there was a thought behind considering both for waitlist/maybe there was interest in a glitchless run over the glitched run seen at AGDQ 2015.  If it a question of the best runner it would clearly be dxtr so I guess I was mostly also curious if they both just got past because of the same estimate or if you were deliberating over any% and glitchless.

Either way I will keep checking and looking forward to the event! Smiley

Still eagerly awaiting feedback. Just worried I might have gotten a bit lost amongst all of the whining.

I think the point about set up for the CD-i is definitely valid and something I didn't consider.
Dapper as fuck.

Is the CD-i not some sort of AV composite?  Didn't figure it would be any harder than hooking up an NES, but I've never owned one so I don't know.
I'm withdrawing my submissions.

No more complicated than any other system. Simple RCA.

regarding the timeline for the 2nd round cuts, are the cuts gonna be made public before the final schedule is finalized?
i ask because knowing if the games i submitted made past the 2nd round is pretty important to be able to advance my planning to travel. it's roughly a little more than 2 months until the event and i wouldn't want to do all the planning if my games end up rejected since it's costly (the visa mainly)

Quote from rowrow_:
This is the saltiest time of the year; if you didn't make it, what can you do? As I understand it, dozens of folks have suffered 0 accepts since GDQ's inception. As someone mentioned earlier as well, runs are also usually selected for gaining viewership and therefore donations.

Hard to swallow, I'm sure.  But expecting some bit of feedback concerning the rejections isn't too much to ask is it?  Especially when you consider the time & energy these runners put in to their submissions.  They are the reason this event has become what it is anyway.

While the cutscenes are probably the highlight of the game, the gameplay itself can be rather lackluster and slow.  I wasn't told anything about issues with setup.
