PX_, you wrote your estimate as 22 minutes... should be like 7 times that long, right? VC is a really nice run though, would also be curious about the reasoning aside from the estimate.
I looked at the current cut of games and saw that Skyrim is still in. Wes Johnson http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0426432/ is local, and does the in-house announcing for the Washington Capitals and lives in the area. I might be able to send him a message and get him involved in this great charity event.

Everyone loves a little celebrity involvement.
Sorry if this has been answered before, but it wasn't in the main post. What does the "Progress" status mean?

This means the game is accepted for whichever round of cuts is currently in effect.

the game, nor the runner are popular, the run doesn't appear to be unique, interesting or engaging in any way (as far as i can tell there is little to no tech aside from following a route), the commentary is largely redundant, and the runners pb is #17 on a leaderboard with 21 submissions.

I don't believe that "popular" is one of the criteria for getting in to these events.  90% of the runners aren't popular by any stretch.  I can't speak to anything about why the game itself was chosen, but her being #17 just means that the 16 ahead of her didn't submit, and the committee felt it was interesting enough.  Shouldn't take much more than that.

That should have been 2:20:00, I forgot to put hours on one of my estimates and it fucked up the time somehow

can anyone explain to me briefly why this run/runner was accepted into SGDQ?

why are runs like this accepted while runs like "all melons" (just one example of many interesting rejects) are not?

I'm just going to throw this out to anyone with questions. Your run isn't what they're looking for. I'm sure it's a great speed game and you love it, but pretty much everyone here has been rejected for every marathon they've tried to get into. Continue to improve your consistency and commentary while optimizing the game further. Better luck next time.

thank u

I'm not quite sure where I should respond to the note left on my run submissions (Super Time Force Ultra) , so I guess I will do it here. I would be fine with Super Hardcore being a donation incentive even though its a faster but more punishing category, I don't have any particular preference so whatever the committee think is best is cool
Was interested to know why Sonic '06 was rejected so I could improve future submissions, Thanks Smiley
Crawlathon WR, get down on my level.

It's been in previous events and the changes in the run weren't enough to justify it this time.

Sonic and Shadow No MSG haven't ever been in a marathon, but Thanks for the quick feedback :). The rest of the 06 runners and I will work on incorporating new glitches and stuff so when SGDQ 2016 rolls around the run will be way different

I'd like to know why Mark of the Ninja was rejected. I'm not mad (disappointed sure, but it happens), just would like to know what I can do to make it a better fit next time.

I know it's been at GDQ before, but never in this format. The new category (NG No-OoB Obake) was finally routed this summer and it really pushes the limits of what the game can do. It's a pure stealth version of the run with some really cool skips/glitches and a high skill requirement for everything else. I personally (and many people I've talked to) find it to be a very cool run to watch due to the nonstop action and clever routing.

Any ideas on what I can do to make it more suited for GDQ's in the future? Thanks!
Whelp - my first ever submission ("Eliminator Boat Duel") was rejected.  Disappointing but I understand and of course am still excited for AGDQ regardless.  (I wish I could have linked to the SDA page for it instead of my shitty youtube version, but the url was too many characters.)

Hi! Just curious what the reasons are for rejecting Dark Souls. It's been rejected for two GDQs in a row and I'm curious what I can do to improve my chances of getting Dark Souls in the event. Thanks

since other people are asking about their games, was curious why my run(s) of x-men legends 2 were rejected?

EDIT:  figured it out. definitely filled out my submission wrong despite asking beforehand which considering the volume you guys go through is an easy reject.  oh well, maybe another time.  good luck to everyone progressing.
For my Guacamelee submission, I've been swamped with a lot of personal stuff the past couple months, but I can get a video made in the next few days.  I am 100% confident I can easily make the estimate I gave, but I understand you need some evidence showing that.
I have a question regarding editing submissions. If I have obtained a better PB since the submission video for a "progressed" run, then should I be posting the new video or does that not matter at this stage in the selection process? Both the old and new video are well within the estimate of my race. In addition, I may very well improve the PB further by the end of this week (my sum of best is yet another minute below my current PB and very obtainable)...so I'm not sure what to do in this situation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time! ^^
In regards to the Ironsword: Wizards and Warriors II submission as a race. The comment asks about the final boss being too RNG heavy for a race. We just had W&W1 as a race and you saw how RNG heavy it was, yet it was perfectly fine. The RNG of the Ironsword final boss shouldn't be an issue at all since the runners know how to fight and dodge boss attacks. Honestly in some way the Malkil fight of W&W1 is  less consistent. The Ironsword boss you can constantly be hitting something.  I don't think the race consideration should be taken away due to the possibility of RNG because the W&W1 run already did it, which affected the outcome of the race but both times finished in with a very good time.
The final boss of IronSword isn't particularly random.  It looks crazy because the bosses are offscreen most of the time so you can't see their orbits.  Once we figured out the patterns the fight got a lot more consistent.  The normal enemies in levels will randomly spawn on your head and kill you but we've agreed to collect 1ups during the race so that lives are not an issue.
If anybody gets a chance, a reason for the Doom 3 rejection would be much appreciated. I suspect it's because of our usage of the mod, and if so it would be good to know to aim for solo instead next time, or not at all if it was because of the game itself.

But, yay, Alien Swarm is progressing!

but it is, at least according to this reddit post by CoolMatty:

according to this, one could assume that the committee believes Castle of Illusion HD is popular and entertaining enough to be accepted.  'entertaining' i suppose is subjective, but i'm not sure how it could be considered a popular run.

one other thing that i found amusing was that a Stepmania game is progressing.  does this mean a speedrun will be rejected to make room for a non-speedrun?
no more umbreons pls

The dude clearly states in his description (as well as his video) that he has inhumane reflexes to play stepmania. This is also the first round and he very well may be rejected. There was a case brought up on r/speedrun about non-speedrun games showcasing incredible skill, and I think a StepMania player that has the skill to back has a viable spot in this marathon. He is doing a game very quick, and those are the main requirements for AGDQ.

i'm not doubting his skill.  clearly he is very skilled at what he does.  but is this a speedrunning marathon, or is this a talent show?
