Hi, I may be misinterpreting the notes that were made to the Castlevania IV submissions. I saw the comment on Just_Defend's submission putting it as a donation incentive. My any% submission is waitlisted with the comment of "If there is a hard mode submission then that would be worthy of consideration."

Does this mean Hard Mode is the only consideration, period (any% rejected)? And it will just be an incentive in the CV block or wherever? Or does this imply that SCV4 any% would progress with Hard Mode as like, an upgraded incentive? (Meet x goal to turn any% into a hard mode run)

I'd really like to know why Battle Network was rejected. It's an hour and a half of solid commentary, amazing RNG manipulation and clever routing, that has never been at a GDQ.

If you get a HUGE new PB in your run after it made the first round cuts (or in my case, the same exact time it made the cuts), is it possible to update the estimated time and video after the cuts are over? I may have just taken 2 huge minutes off my 8 month old Blaster Master PB...

(I only ask because I didn't see the question answered previously)

While it is possible to update your estimate, (I have done this before) I would personally recommend to wait until after the first round of cuts is over before requesting it as the people involved are going to be busy handling the flood of submissions.

Beyond that, how huge of a PB are you talking here? Because unless there was a major routing change, it's usually going to be better to leave your estimate as it was just for safety at the marathon.

I know we're not allowed to edit out submissions, but a glitch in my game (mark of the ninja) was found today that reduces the run time by around 3 minutes (and greatly improves success of the level it's on).  Even my most recent, rather sloppy run, was a notable PB.  I just wanted to point that out somewhere in case my run were to be considered as the vid tied to my sub is now notably dated.

If it's possible this may effect my judging, I have a vid showcasing the new route for my category.  One spot gave me an extensive amount of trouble for no reason, but aside from that this vid does a much better job displaying the run. Hopefully it helps.  Thanks!

In general, your estimate shouldn't be altered by saving 2 minutes, because if the 2 minute save was from a difficult trick or sequence break that might be inconsistent, then your estimate would have to account for messing up the trick. However, I think second round of cuts allows an update on the video submission (though if staff has already watched it they would probably need to be informed an updated route has been discovered).

But 2 minutes shouldn't change your estimate, it's better to have a slight overestimate than to be right on the money with how long the run takes.
Very Thanks..!!
Alrighty. It wasn't really so much a "change in route" aside actually having a PB with the new Crab glitch involved, but moreso a "I want a better representation of my run" as the old vod was over 8 months old. Breaking the 34 is rough!
difficult and stupidly random
What time on October 17th are the submissions closing?

Apologies if this was posted somewhere obvious, but I did not find it.

It wasn't posted anywhere.  Sorry about that!

They should be closing at 8PM Eastern (5PM Pacific) on 10/17.  I'll edit this into the OP as well.

Thank you, Sumi!
Hey, my Mario Kart 64 (2 players 1 controller, no skips) run got accepted as bonus but left the note "I'll need a video if this is going to happen" so here you go: http://www.twitch.tv/almolicious/v/20710242

We did not practice a lot of the later levels much at all, so they are filled with mistakes. Something that can easily be fixed over 2 months time. Yet still about 2 minutes under our estimate anyway. Also sorry for the bad audio, I didn't want to spend a lot of time messing with my setup.

Also, even if it is a preexisting rule, isn't that the point of suggesting change? To improve? Everything about the Community Block is a good decision/idea. I'd like to hear specific reasons against it, convincing the supporters on how said reasons would make it a definate "no".

Popular runners would be winning by a landslide, it would be incredibly unfair to other runners.

This is the only reason needed, IMO.

I don't know about that, as others said it would be easy to make voting based on the game itself rather than the runner. I feel people would be willing to rally around a particular game getting a chance in a *GDQ.

I understand why things are set up the way they are with a committee sorting through submissions,  but I would really love it if the community had an opportunity to influence some of the games. Even if it's just for a small block like this. It would go a long way towards keeping GDQ connected with the community rather than, unfortunately, have it feel like an anonymous committee is the sole arbiter of deciding what's worth watching.
Oh, so little thing I just noticed. The first post on this thread says 450 character for a submission description is allowed, but the submission form says (and allows) 400. I'm just assuming its a typo in the post.
Terraffirmative!
Regardless of how anyone feels about a community block or that type of entry, it is not practical for us to implement it in time for AGDQ. If you'd like to revisit the topic, please bring it up in the feedback thread that will be posted after the marathon.

why not
mwsf!
I think we should actually just move AGDQ 2016 to Winnipeg, it's the heart of the continent and all. That's easy to do in 3 months. Wink
Welp, I got rejected with Harry Potter 1 on PC. When you guys get a chance could you give a reason?

I'm honestly really surprised. This game has come up in conversation a bunch of times around gdq submissions and everyone I talk to is confused why it never gets in. I think we had 5 people from the HP speedrun community submit games this year, and all of them were rejected without reason. I'm not asking for the status to be changed or anything, I'm just curious as to the reason. I've got a pretty large community of speedrunners that is pretty confused as to whats going on and why we're getting rejected over and over again.

why not

Just my thinking, but it's blocking out 4 hours of time when scheduling is already being discussed as people are already submitting games. A committee is already committing all of that time to reviewing each submission and deciding whether or not a game moves on. It's already tough enough to decide what games to fit in, and just taking out another 4 hours to figure out a "community block" that isn't figured out for sure and that the staff of AGDQ has no time to discuss during all of this is a huge risk too much to consider at this time.

It'd make more sense in my mind to have a roundtable for staff members to have discussed this 'community block' before all of this took place, not during.

BTW, not a staff member here at all by any means, but just my personal thinking on this.
Is the bar actually accurately representing the submissions?  Because I'm still waiting on mine and it currently looks finished.

It makes sense. It's a shame, but this probably needed to be brought up in September. You can bet I'll be ready to mention it again though when the time comes.

It looks like the bar is now broken entirely.

Sorry if I gave the impression that it should be something implemented immediately, that was not my intent. It's definitely not feasible for this event, just a suggestion for future events inspired by many posts in this thread (given the similarity to the submission threads for the last few events).
I'll put something together for the feedback thread when it happens for the sake of formality, this was just a "record idea when it suddenly comes to you" situation I couldn't resist sharing.
I have no idea how the selection committee works, and I don't think it has ever been stated how it does, but if the committee is in a group talk while going over submissions, it would make sense to have a "secretary" take minutes, aka write down everything said about each submission. Once cuts are over, the minutes get posted and everyone can see why they were cut, and we can avoid page after page of people asking for reasons. In my opinion, this secretary would remain impartial and have no say in cuts, only listen in on the conversations and write down the important information. If it is feasible, hopefully someone can remember to suggest this in the next feedback thread.

I havent seen it anywhere, could be me being blind, but my run was waitlisted and there was a question about the run.  where should I put my response to the question, here or PM someone?

I don't know if exactly this would be implemented in practice but I do agree that SOME form of transparency would be nice in regards to game rejections.
