Why walk when you can go fast?
I just want a clarification on why Witcher 3 was put into waitlist in case there's a misunderstanding. If it was put there because of length, that's fine I understand. If it was put there because of a large time gap between me and the top runner please understand that the top runner uses a macro to spam space which makes a HUGE difference in the time. This is something I simply refuse to do, but don't care enough to really make a big deal out of it. Please don't compare my run to his if this is the case.

so then whoever has the most followers on twitter/twitch who will vote for their run gets in?
No.

Quote from Seckswrecks:
I know, make it so only "established community members" get to vote, that way we can all just complain about the bias of the group who decides who those people are
Obviously something like manually creating a list of "established community members" isn't pragmatic, hence the suggestion to only allow people who have submitted runs to vote.
GDQ website already has user accounts linked with submitted runs. Make it anyone who has submitted a run to a past/present GDQ can vote. Or the runners whose runs got accepted can vote.
Or, since registration is tied to your account, after registration is open everyone registered after a week's time gets to vote. That way, early registration has an incentive, as well as giving the people who are attending/supporting the event as attendees/runners/volunteers an opportunity to be part of the process in a small way.

Quote from rowrow_:
As great an idea of a "community vote" block is, it'll just be a swarm of promotional videos and popular streamers who got rejected getting their run in. Not to mention, even just 1 run with a popular streamer could fill a 4-hour slot
Maybe, maybe not. 1 run could fill the 4 hour slot, sure, but that run would have to be extremely popular since someone who votes for a 4 hour game would only cast that one vote due to length. I think a more realistic scenario is 3 30 minute games win, leaving 2 hours for waitlisted games to be changed to accepted.
Who knows, the only satisfactory answer to what would happen needs to be backed empirically.

Mostly agree, except I wouldn't allow requests for voting access & I don't really have much issue with the selection process. With so many submissions nowadays it's not feasible to explain in-depth why every run/category was denied, once you entertain one person who asks you're opening the entitlement floodgates for everyone else. Although, I think there are a small amount of rejections every year that deserve an in-depth response, if for no other reason than to gain insight wrt selection criteria. Situations where community expectations severely conflict with panel decisions are worth examining in detail, imo.
I know we're not allowed to edit out submissions, but a glitch in my game (mark of the ninja) was found today that reduces the run time by around 3 minutes (and greatly improves success of the level it's on).  Even my most recent, rather sloppy run, was a notable PB.  I just wanted to point that out somewhere in case my run were to be considered as the vid tied to my sub is now notably dated.
On the My Submissions page it says Awesome Games Done Quick 2015, should be 2016.

As a gentle reminder, I'd like to remind everyone that the AGDQ 2016 game committee does not take individual (or group) requests for a game to be run, as stated in the...

The game committee still has full control, this is a private poll to runners only and the results are private to the committee. The committee only seems to get an idea of what thousands of people want after the decision is made on a game.

Also, even if it is a preexisting rule, isn't that the point of suggesting change? To improve? Everything about the Community Block is a good decision/idea. I'd like to hear specific reasons against it, convincing the supporters on how said reasons would make it a definate "no".

Kind of shell-shocked that my Spyro 2 100% submission didn't get past first cuts. I figured a category like that where over 20 minutes was saved over a past WR from 2 years ago (especially since it was ran at SGDQ 2013) would have deserved a second showing.

EDIT: I would also like to know why it was rejected, actually.
Is there someone i can talk to (possibly privately) about a game being rejected and why? Last time i messaged someone about it i never got a response so i would  really like one this time please
Crawlathon WR, get down on my level.

Popular runners would be winning by a landslide, it would be incredibly unfair to other runners.

This is the only reason needed, IMO.
General Kong - Bullets and Bananas
I really thought Bonk's Adventure would be a good addition to the schedule.  Ah well, the TG16 continues to get zero love from the GDQ crew.  Cry

Fingers crossed on the others...
Is there a reason my submission of TimeSplitters 2 was rejected but realmcopier's wasn't?
I recently noticed that the Status comment for my submission of Bloodborne Any% was changed to "no video?" I believe that I had linked the video in the appropriate box but it might have been lost while I was spell checking the forum.Hopefully you can take a second look at my submission and give it an actual chance.

How do you know he didn't submit his first? I'm only involving myself in this because I run the game and have a better time than both of you.
Even if that's not the case, if runners of the game don't make an attempt to discuss submissions amongst themselves beforehand and just submit, It's totally reasonable for the panel to accept the person with the faster time instead of you, no?

The only problem with that idea is that that's now how things seem to have been done this time around.

For the most part, if multiple people have submitted the same game and category and the game/category advances, they progress all such non-joke submissions with a comment along the lines of "will sort out runner later". In that light, at least to me it looks like a perfectly reasonable question to ask.
From what I see, those are for races or popular games that have a good chance of identical category submissions by potentially better runners in the coming week. The run is question wasn't pitched as a race and isn't a popular game.
Unless one expects to be accepted over someone else with a significantly faster time, I don't understand the confusion here.
Just a quick question, you say on the submission info that the attached video to a submission should be a full, complete run of the game by the runner. Is it acceptable to provide highlights of glitches/tricks executed during the run? Or do you guys really only want a full game run and anything else would cause the submission to be rejected?

Thanks.
#FailFish
Probably a foolish question, but am I right in assuming that nothing will be officially "accepted" until after the submissions are closed? Just curious, since you mentioned that acceptance notifications will hopefully be done well in advance of the 28th registration deadline.

This is suggesting that the runners chosen for the marathon aren't aware of what a good speedrun is. If you setup the poll to just list the game and the category(and not the runner), it would end the majority of the bias(I know people could look up the runner, but many would be too lazy to check).

Some games that would get voted on off the top of my head are Yoshi Story(obviously), Spyro 2, and FF tactics. But who knows, others could arise throughout the week and get picked too. Dan Salvato, Alex Dest, and Claude are far away from being "popular runners", and it is, and always has been, the game that people want to see on the big stage.
Very Thanks..!!
Rest in Peace, Legend of Mana. We'll never see you at a GDQ event.
HELLO!

I can't speak for the organizers, but from my perspective, a full game run is preferred, since that is what you're presenting to the marathon. If you just show a highlights reel, you're hiding how the general pacing of the run is and all of the not-so-highlights of the run.
Very Thanks..!!
I might as well ask, since it's biting at me. Can someone from the voting committee tell me why LoM was rejected? I'm not asking out of "but it needs to be showcased!" but moreso out of constructive criticism. Is it the commentary? The run itself too boring? I'd like to know if it's either the game or myself that was the reason behind the rejection, so I can work towards something better next time or just all around avoid that game for future GDQ submissions.

Will there be multiple rounds of cuts or will the cuts all go live at the same time?

edit: I want to make a GDQ Cuts Fantasy draft, so it's, like, totally important information
Crawlathon WR, get down on my level.
I'll be catching up on reject responses later this afternoon.

saintmillion: there will be at least 2 rounds of cuts. The current one (aka, the mass prune), and the final cuts. Cuts aren't queued, when they make a rejection, it happens as soon as they click the button.

Yeah, completely understand what you mean, and definitely not my intention to mislead people. I had hoped to submit highlights because in last years submission, the game was dismissed partially for being a generic game without any glitches, which is in no way the case. I was just hoping to showcase what the game has, since I know the people picking games rarely have more than a few minutes to look at a video.

I'm more than happy to put together a full run with commentary and try to get in timestamps for the parts of the run I want to point out. Obviously more effort, but that's completely fine. If an organizer could just let me know if highlights of parts of the run is fine, or if a full run is required that'd be awesome.

Also for anyone curious, the game is Harry Potter 1 on PC.

Also sorry for any language/spelling errors, I'm on mobile.
