Crawlathon WR, get down on my level.
Quote from dntn31:
I'm a little surprised that Mario Kart 64 is being rejected as a whole. The MK64 AGDQ14 run currently has the most views of any video on the SDA youtube channel out of all of the AGDQ14 runs (currently sitting around 270K, next highest is I Wanna Be The Guy at 212K), it also tied for the game with the single highest individual donation at AGDQ14 ($10K) and won the add-a-game bid war at SGDQ15. Clearly there is a lot of interest in speedruns for the game and I would think SDA would want to capitalize on that. I understand that there is a ton of submissions and not every game can be included, but to reject a game that is at the top of several objective categories (video views, single donation amount) seems a little strange.

I respect the decision and I'm not salty, just thought I'd say my peace and perhaps bring some attention to the above facts if they weren't already known by those responsible for making the decision to reject the game.

Thank you for all of your hard work.

I ain't Mike, but I don't know what any of those stats have to do with the game being a good choice.

A. YouTube views aren't something we care about, nor are they tracked all that well (not all runs uploaded at the same time, etc).
B. Getting a large single donation isn't really something notable for any specific game. If that were the case, anything that receives Notch's regular GDQ donation would be an automatic in (sets the precedent that you can buy a game into the marathon).
C. The fact that it was at SGDQ2014 is actually not a good thing for getting a run in. Very few runs are repeated so often. Being an bonus game doesn't help either (we had a LOT of time to fill at SGDQ2014).

Edit: BTW, I don't have any opinion on the game itself, I just think your reasoning was questionable.

hey! my run got rejected, however good luck to all of the runners. Ill be watching from home to support.  One day Strider 2 will get its turn!
That sucks, Frankie! As a huge Strider fan and also someone who runs Strider 2014, I really wanted to see Strider 2 at SGDQ, but I heard it was a family thing that you needed to drop out. Hopefully it gets in the next marathon.

thanks for that..yeah my grandmother passed away the night before my flight. very crappy situation. however, ill still catch some of AGDQ. No more submissions though, heh. Don't want to pester the people. I'll be sure to check out your runs and remain a supporter of the GDQ's. Good luck everyone and grats on making it.

Thanks for the response Cool Matty.

My reasoning was to show that the game is popular and has the potential to raise a lot of money and I think my reasoning for those two specific things (not that the game has to be included in every marathon lineup) was fairly sound. I would think that YouTube views would be a very reasonable indicator for gauging overall interest in the game. I know that not all of the runs are uploaded at the same time, however that run was uploaded toward the end of the batch of VODs (uploaded #92 out of 152 on March 5, window was Jan 23 - March 30), so by your own logic the view stats for that video are, if anything, more impressive than had it been uploaded first and was simply waiting for other runs to "catch up" in views.

I appreciate the fact that the marathons need variety to continue being successful and that MK64 has been run (and only ever really been run - the MK64 2P at the first GDQ really doesn't count) at the last two marathons (though not solely because it was accepted by the marathon organizers - MK64 was run at SGDQ14 because it beat out F-Zero by popular demand despite being initially rejected). I'm sure, without trying very hard, that you could find dozens of other games that have been run at both of the last 2 marathons and have already been accepted for AGDQ15 and have been regular staple games at many of the marathons in past years.
No that is not true. It did not beat out F-Zero by popular demand. While it was initially a bidwar, F-Zero was dropped because the runner was barred from the marathon room for mistreating a mic.

If it got in only because Naegleria was banned, then I stand corrected. I thought it was ahead regardless (it raised a full $1K over the goal to be included as a bonus game- a little over $5K in total).

It became a normal bonus game incentive after f-zero was dropped. It was ahead while it was still an donation war, but a large part of the reason it was ahead was because the mario kart runner was Firedragon, a popular streamer who is well known for being a really nice guy. I hate being that person who points out runner popularity, but it definitely matters. If F-Zero and Mario Kart 64 were both ran by equally popular runners, it could have turned out differently.

EDIT: For the record, all I mean with this point is that people wanted to see Firedragon run Mario Kart not Naegleria F-Zero. I'm not implying its a bad thing or anything. I'm just saying that its not really fair to use that bidwar to strengthen mario kart 64's position.

Just wondering, no big deal - any particular reason strider 2 was rejected? I figured no real donation incentive and things like that. Also, sorry about sgdq, my grandmothers passing made it impossible to show up.
So I embarrassingly totally forgot to include one of my games when I was filling out my submissions, and it looks like there's no way to append entries onto your submissions. I see it was already submitted once and rejected though (Ys Origin, Toal Any%). Would be curious to know what the reason for its rejection was; I can probably give a 15 minute shorter estimate than the rejected entry if length was the reason for it.

Unfortunately, SpootyBiscuit, as has been stated multiple times, if you didn't include it in your submission, you can't go back and add it to your submission later.

Hey, my runs got rejected, blah blah blah. Looking for feedback on:

Super Ninja Kun (which was kinda hype when it was run coop)

Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa (which I imagined to be weird enough to make for a kinda WTF submission, while still being a legit run)

96 Exit Coop (though I imagine this one was more the "oh it's long and SMW is so overplayed" thing)
Hey two of my games idc about cuz they are freaking terrible and i didnt expect them to get anywhere lol. But any chance i can get a reason for Agent Under Fire that decision really blows my mind tbh. :S

Then why submit them at all? No one wants to watch a run that the runner doesn't care about.

Cuz why not? It's not like submitting a game I know but is garbage is gonna hurt anything XD

This seems to violate this rule:
Quote from mikwuyma:
"I worked really hard on this" - I hope you did, or you are going to, or else your run shouldn't even be considered in the first place.

If you aren't really in to running the game, then you are not cut for running at AGDQ.

No your getting this wrong i like running the games that got cut I just didnt care if they got in cuz they are bad games and they probably werent
If they are BAD games, then why are you suggesting them?

Because there is an Awful Games Block?

There's bad, and then there's awful. Awful games are chosen because they have particular properties that make them especially bad, and hilarious. The entertainment value has to be high.

I was unaware of this i thought any bad game qualified XD
Is PJ
If anything, Awful Games Done Quick is even MORE selective.  It's not a competition to offer the shittiest, most unwatchable piece of garbage you can find.  Like Cool Matty said, the entertainment value has to be very high for these games.

I understand now if i would've known this i would've just submitted the on game

But anyways can someone give me even an assumption as to why Agent Under Fire got rejected?
Games for the Awful block need to be awful, but they also need to be funny and entertaining. Submitting a shitty game is something, but submitting a shitty game that is guaranteed to make people laugh is something else.
