There were plenty of things for Caleb to write in his submission. Sure, he doesn't need to describe the run itself, but why should Mega Man X be included again when its been included in 6 GDQs now? Why should uyama be led to believe that MMX is not going to become stale?
just( •_•)>⌐■-■ ..... (⌐■_■)wing it
I also want to reiterate that Caleb's submission wasn't my only focus.  If you look at Mitch's SMB3 and MM10 bass submissions, literally nothing about those runs are being pitched, he literally just gave the speedrun definition of the category.

BTW, I am not saying these runs / runners shouldn't get in, I am merely saying that they too should follow the guidelines put up, otherwise you're making a mockery of a serious marathon.

as a compromise we can assign those lazy submissions to the graveyard shift runs, and late in the week. huehuehue
Gets the cake.
Nowhere in any of the "guidelines" does it say you HAVE to pitch your game. The description section is for the benefit of the organizers so that they can learn more about games they might not have heard of. Nobody's ignoring any guidelines, there's just no reason to pitch a game that has been in 5+ marathons and has done reasonably well at all of them, because the organizers know that the game is a safe bet.

When they put the pitches in public view for everyone to see, it isn't just for the organizers. There would be no point for us to see them. They should hide these pitches if they truly feel that way.
Gets the cake.
I wish the description was hidden so you guys would stop whining about safe bet games not needing a 200 word essay to get into the marathon =P
I must simply laugh.

he did post a bit too much, i dont think its mountains out of molehills here. while i get why these pitches were made the way they were, they (unintentionally) are kinda disrespectful to other runners.

You can't really deny that when someone takes a glance at the list of game pitches, that person will think there's a ridiculous amount of favoritism and that all that matters is being cosmo/trihex/caleb/etc. I'm not saying that's true (it's clearly a factor but obviously not the only thing that matters), but I'm seeing that impression everywhere already, in various chats, reddit, PMs, and so on. I understand that the game+runner can be self-explanatory and it shouldn't be that big of a deal IMO, but having all the pitches publicly definitely has a negative impact; many people are already attacking the entire community for favoritism.
oh wow this selection of games is really nice i'll be sure to watch thi-

>crash 2 any%

Worthless categories WR master
I said a couple days ago that people saying a game only gets picked because it's a specific runner can't handle the fact that their own shitty personality hinders the entertainment value of their runs. Sounds harsh but that's how it is. Some runners are genuinely more entertaining to watch and it obviously factors in a lot, and people who say that factoring that in is favoritism are just dumb, jealous and/or have a shitty personality that hinders their own runs.

Edit: not personally attacking anyone, just the general "wow cosmo gets a free pass" attitude.
I don't think I would say it's favoritism, but it definitely is harder for lesser-known runners (like myself) to get in. Even if a lesser-known run is just as good, there aren't going to be as many people watching it, and by extension, less donations.
Thats not the problem. The problem isn't favoritism or whatever. Its that they chose runners that did not show that they care and did not put effort into their submission. Cosmo for example at least always puts some effort into his submissions. This is the runner knowing they're going to get in and therefore not putting the effort in.

1 - retardly arrogant oversimplification
2 - while you're making it personal, I'll point out that you relied on someone else yelling OH BABY over and over again during your boring ass run lmao

Oh no, couldn't do that, then we'd appear to be hiding something!

He's probably referencing the fact that everyone would start bitching at them for hiding pitches and lying (because that would actually happen <_< )
It's the simple fact that marathons pretty much rely on popular and nostalgic games for donation purposes. It's a for-the-masses charity event more than it is a speedrunning event. It's not speedrunning FOR speedrunners, it's speedrunning for casuals.

lmfao holy fucking $hit
We aren't saying "Only popular people get into gdqs". That is not the complaint. The complaint is that people who half-assed their submissions got into gdq, and that that is disrespectful to those who actually care.
The fact that Crash 2 Any% got in instead of 100% saddens me greatly, as A. Any% is an uninteresting and unefentful run, and B. 100% is better, faster and more entertaining in every way. I knew there were questionable choices before, but choosing Crash 2 Any% is just.......no.

Cool salt, considering nobody offered crash 2 100% yet (according to the list)
