I submitted NightSky and it was rejected.
I understand that you can't have both NightSky and Knytt Stories, but could someone please pm me why it didn't tip NightSkys way. I'd appreciate that thank you.

Awesome, my submission of 10 Second Ninja got past the first cut!

Quick question though, I just talked to the actual game developer and he said he would be 100% down with doing an indie dev Skype call during the run. Since my run is so short, there's one or two things I can show off afterwards to give him some more time.

Mike, let me know if this is something you'd possibly be interested in doing, just so I can let him know asap.
I'm ok with my other games not making it in but I would like to ask why Cyborg 009 got rejected. I understand if I don't get a response via PM though.
Only Offense Will Survive
Unfortunately my Resident Evil 4 New Game Submission got rejected too. If a race might change anything (with Auddy07), hit me up. Smiley

Seems like all four teams for sonic heroes made it. Last story perhaps?

So, I've went through the submissions and did a little statistic. It's the acceptance/rejection rate per platform so far. Numbers might be slightly skewed due to virtual consoles and multiplatform games, but I've found something interesting.

OVERALL (376 submissions): 32.5% accepted / 58% reject / 9.5% other.

Nintendo (185 submissions): 38% accepted / 55.5% rejected / 6.5% other.
PC (113 submissions): 28.5% / 55% rejected / 16.5% other.
Sega (18 submissions): 39% accepted / 55.5% rejected / 5.5% other.
Microsoft (13 submissions): 31% accepted / 69% rejected / 0% other.
Sony (44 submissions): 20.5% accepted / 77.5% rejected / 2% other.

The rejection rate for games on Microsoft and Sony platforms is way higher than the average. And Microsoft acceptances are either virtual console or double Halo.

All the things
Question: is it possible to list or display publicly the up-to-date sum of time estimates for each of the status types (accepted, not flagged, etc)? This is mostly just for curiosity, since I know it's not immediately applicable to a final schedule since setup is no longer included.

EDIT: There are probably several competing reasons why the above numbers turn out the way they do. For example, most Microsoft and Sony games are significantly longer than the typical Ninty/PC/Sega game. This sets a higher barrier of entry for all but the biggest blockbuster runs. That said, it also highlights that relatively few MS or Sega games have been submitted. The numbers can vary pretty widely with only a couple extra submissions that go one way or the other. In any case, thanks for looking into that info!

Indie dev skype call? How does that work?

Just curious. *shrug*
Obscure games ftw
I was planning on compiling a similar list of statistics after the submission period ends-this is exactly the trend I was noting.  I'll add specific data by console and time, discounting obvious submissions with no chance (i.e. the 48 hour FFXII estimate :P).

One more thing: Sony platforms had a couple partial game categories offered and those had zero chance, which would also skew the numbers slightly: but not by enough.

game dev does commentary via skype call. that's it
why were all of my games rejected?
Glad my fanboy lvls aren't THIS high
While I plan to make my submission(s) a little later, before that, I need help resetting my password for the GDQ page.  Apparently, when I tried to reset my password, with the required amount of characters just to note, I keep getting an error message, "This password reset token is invalid," immediately after supposedly setting up said new password.  Anyone with an idea what's going on with this?  It's hard to get submissions made when you can't get into the site itself.

Sonic lost world got rejected. I'd better think out an arguement for this. Sure Darkspinessonic is awesome, but that doesn't count as a reason. I can think of some.

-The parkour engine allows for really cool tricks to be used that would be very entertaining to watch at the marathon.
-people say the game is slow, but Darkspines is able to make it through the levels super fast and still make them look very entertaining (well, maybe except for the bosses, those are about as entertaining as they'll get)
-There's plenty for a glitch showcase segment if time allows
-donation incentive could be to show off the hidden world and dlc stages, maybe?

Personally, I don't know what "wings" are in Sonic lost world, so I can't argue that.

if I think of any more, I'll update this post. I'm concerned with my own submission of course, but I don't want to seem like I only care about myself, y'know?
<(^_^)>
You don't have to post in this thread about every game you see in the list; and to be honest, lost world is easily DSS's weakest entry and all the other 3d sonics are just better selections.

My feelings on The Demon Rush
I'm generally answering people's questions about rejects via PM. I know I haven't reached everyone, but I think I've reached most people.

I'll answer FFT stuff now.

First off, passion and dedication are variants of, "I worked really hard on this game." I would like to think most people who submitted their games are passionate and dedicated about them, or else why would they bother? Do other runners somehow have less passion and dedication to their games?

Commentary: Yes, Claude's commentary is great, and yes, that is a big part of an RPG run, since the mechanics and strategies have to be explained more than most other games. However, commentary is not 100% of it. There's also the popularity/nostalgia, content (gameplay, cutscenes, etc.), and donation incentives. Final Fantasy Tactics definitely has the nostalgia, but it's the other two I'm very worried about.

Claude:

1. I guess, there are still a ton of cutscenes though, and they are quite lengthy.

2. Fair enough.

3. Starting around the 2 and half/3 hour mark you were constantly sword drawing and then using a spell like meteor or odin to finish off what sword drawing didn't kill. Maybe there's a lot of adjustment needed depending on what happens but what's going on is generally the same and doesn't look different to the average viewer.

4. You miss the point. There's no attachment to the random units. They're not like a main character in an rpg where they have some role in the story. Sure, the generic units are important for finishing the game, but it's not like there's much attachment to them. I don't really care if you use an extra unit or not, that's not the point.

Zodiac birthday is an incentive, but a weak one.

Saving characters: Maybe Mustadio and Algus are decent incentives, though I don't see them  being real draws. Boco hardly counts.

Optional characters: Cloud could be a good donation incentive, but doesn't recruiting him take forever? I'm already wary of this game's length.

Final Boss blindfolded: This might be a good incentive.

Other stuff

Petitions: Worst way to make me reconsider a decision, but it's a good way to make me laugh.

Jaguar King: I hardly consider Orlando, Florida halfway across the world, especially since there are people who actually do fly halfway across the world to attend. Either way, no, I'm not considering Metal Gear 2 for AGDQ, and if that means you won't come then I'm sorry to hear that.

Zwateketa: No, Sonic Heroes is intended as a bid war. I'm guessing that the runners are okay with it since they're all friends (and running all four teams would take too long). Also, I'm glad that you're enthusiastic about games, but at the same time this topic is not your personal blog, I'll get around to the games you submitted eventually.
Crawlathon WR, get down on my level.

It's either:

A. You already reset the password, in which case log in or do the reset process again if you messed up.
B. The URL in the email was mangled. Make sure you visit the exact URL in the email, as it contains the token necessary to confirm your identity.

Oh, boy.  This is why either the link should be it's own separate line with the hyperlink attached, or the link should never be the last part of a sentence where it ends with a lousy period.  It was surprisingly easy to highlight over the period and overlook doing so when copying the URL (lesson: always proofread, people).  Anyway, that's no longer here nor there.  It's still my error, and everything is now in order, so much appreciated.

Actually we're both dumb. I didn't even notice until you said to make it a link, that it wasn't actually a link. GMail was formatting it automatically for me in my tests, so I never noticed that I hadn't actually made it a clickable URL! I will fix that immediately when I get back.

Hey Mike,  just curious about DKC3 any% getting rejected.  I can take good shots but it'd be nice to hear for sure when you have a moment.  After seeing Spike's rayman I'm also kicking myself for not submitting IoG any% vs. 100% >_> since I'm still working on it.

I want to respond briefly to this. I never played FFT (and wish I did). However, I know that it is really popular; whenever it is brought up in basically any RPG stream, everyone literally goes crazy over it (whereas people are always divided over just about every main final fantasy game). Heck, people insult me for not having played it. As someone who's never played the game, I can tell that there is a crapton of love for FFT, and I do think that it, at least, deserves a shot past first cuts.

That's just my two cents, and the general audience reaction in my experience, both in and out of speedrunning chats.

you didn't really respond to his point at all. you just agreed that the game was popular.

oh whoops, i read it as "popularity, nostalgia" <_<
