My feelings on The Demon Rush
Promo video up! http://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/agdq_2012_promo_video.html
What I've tried with some of the past marathons is contacting some of the gaming websites about a week before our marathons, but that hasn't really worked out. For those of you wondering how gaming websites picked up on on the last AGDQ, I'm honestly not sure, since all of the mentions were during AGDQ.
I think the main problem is that I've only tried once and then didn't do any follow up. What I think we should try this year is have everyone contact the gaming sites in waves. Yes, that means you should help too! I figure even if it's just 2-3 people telling the gaming sites about are marathon a week, then it's a lot more likely they'll recognize recognize us than just me contacting them, and that's a really lowball estimate in terms of number of people contacting per week.
I don't want everyone to contact the sites at once, like I said, we should do it in waves so we're persistent.
This is our press release you can use for promotion:
You don't have to use the press release, but it's there if you can't think of anything to write and I think it's a good base.
If you want a slightly fancier website version of the press release, then use this link: http://speeddemosarchive.com/pressreleases/agdq2012/
Once the trailer is finished (should be sometime this week), then I'll likely include that in the press release.
Now you're probably wondering how to hit up the gaming sites. I've posted contact information below. I'll add more sites as more pop into my head.

Other stuff
Obviously, major gaming sites aren't the only way to advertise and promote our marathon, so if there's a forum you hang out on, tell them about AGDQ2012! And of course, there is social media.
Our facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/301825429842522/
If you're tweeting, you should probably just use the press release website. Here's the shortened link for tweeting: http://bit.ly/AGDQ2012PR If you just want to link to the marathon page, then use this link: http://bit.ly/AGDQ2K12 - I would have used 2012, but bit.ly is stupid and won't let you delete link associations even after you've changed them.
People who have contacted gaming sites
mikwuyma - Dec 13 - all but gamespy and 1-up from the list. The gamespy form gave me an error, and the 1-up email bounced when I tried from two email accounts.
December 19th - Zelda Universe, Ars Technica, and Eurogamer
DJS - Dec 13 - Nintendoage
Chrno - Dec 13 - Pikigeek
Emptyeye - Dec 19th - Ryan North of Dinosaur Comics. Successful too.

Hello, it's Speed Demos Archive, the leading source of speed run videos, with speed runs of over 650 games from players all over the world.
From January 4th through 9th, 2012, we will hold a video game charity marathon called Awesome Games Done Quick 2012. All donations will go to Prevent Cancer Foundation (http://preventcancer.org ), an organization dedicated to funding promising treatment research. The entire event will be streamed live via justin.tv on our front page (http://speeddemosarchive.com ).
Approximately 80 members of our site's community will gather together in one location to play through over 100 different games non-stop as fast as they can. These games range from NES classics such as Super Mario Bros. and Mega Man 2, to recent titles such as Portal 2 and Halo: Reach. For a list of all 100 games and estimated start times, check out http://speeddemosarchive.com/marathon/schedule
During the event, we will also raffle off prizes for our viewers who generously donate during our marathon. A Legend of Zelda Master Sword, a Super Meat Boy tenderizer, games (including a boxed copy of Earthbound!), a Sonic comic collection, perlers (bead art), and plushies are only a portion of what we’ll be giving away!
We invite you to come to our front page at http://speeddemosarchive.com from January 4-9th to take part in the round-the-clock fun.
