Well loopy said he would order 300 boards real soon, 6 days ago. So he should have them in a few weeks, I would say.
Waiting for boards.  They should be here by the end of the month.
My body is ready.

Got a final price, or will you wait until all of the capture cards are completely finished?
The price isn't set yet.
Will you have to take the back off your Nintendo 3DS to use this device? Also, if you have to take the back off it to install the device, can you take it back off? If you could take it back off, I'd buy it.
I'm pretty sure that the capture device will need you to take the back of the 3DS because it needs to be soldered onto the PCB in order to capture the video signals, I suspect that you will be able to reverse the process, but it will require you to desolder the device to remove it.

The cables are soldered, the Board itself is glued.
You can take off the Board, but I highly recommend you to glue it on, because otherwise, it'll fall off a lot.
If you decide to not glue it on, you can always put 2 fingers on the metal (HDMI and USB Ports), but it isn't confortable at all.

Probably I am mixing things up - does the device require USB 3.0? Or is USB 2.0 sufficient?
IIRC loopy stated sth about that a while ago, but can't seem to find that post anymore T_T
The capture device itself is only USB 2.0.

It's USB 2.0, probably due to compatibility.
I assume Loopy is on vacation, right now, as he wasn't online anywhere, since July 7th.

You can see the install process over here (instructions show the HDMI board, but the process is the same for both boards).

You can remove the capture board and put the original battery cover back on.  The 3DS will still work fine (you don't need to desolder the cable).

Gluing won't be necessary, a custom case was designed that will hold the board in place.

No vacation, I just don't check in on the forum daily.

Nice to see the installation proccess. I guess I'll order a pre-modded 3DS anyway, looks like you could easily trash the 3DS without any experience on dissassembly etc.
Thanks for all the effort loopy Smiley

By the way, any chance of seeing a sample video of a USB/HDMI capture in comparison? Just wondering.

So you have own Cases, Loopy?
I didn't know.

Vuze, as for the current Firmware, HDMI Capture is disabled, and USB Capture got improved.
I did post some example Video's of both, some pages back.
It appears katsukity has designed a case, maybe that's what will be used.
Yes, it's the case made by katsukity.
yeah, the installation process is way too complicated for me Tongue when I get money for my birthday I might order a pre-made one Smiley
More progress...
It looks more or less full speed now, though I haven't done any real speed tests.  I'm not doing any compression tricks yet, it's just streaming raw video so there's still room for improvement.

Im test now. May be upload testvideo 5hours later.

Full Speed confirmed, as well as the File Size is now growing really hard.
I mean, I could Capture 4 Mario Kart 7 rounds on 1,5 GB the previous Firmware, the current Firmware takes only 1 round to get 1,5 GB.

Same codecs and everything.

This looks amazing! Really great progress!

upload picture of 3DS case later.

I finally soldered mine yesterday, it is doable but as loopy has pointed out taking apart the 3DS is a little bit tricky. Putting it back together is a bit tricky in its own way as well, but it can definitely be done with patience and if you do things in the right order: connect the cable of the SD card reader before reconnecting the circle pad and screwing it back in. The soldering part seemed pretty easy to me, especially compared to soldering the regular DS (and the DSi probably is even more challenging, but I never got around to doing it although I have everything I need - with the 3DS capture I probably don't need to do it anymore), which took me a lot longer and was more challenging because of all the (21, I think) single cables that needed to point the right direction when soldered to the test point.

3DS video capture test

3DS video capture case
Wow, holy shit you guys have made tons of progress.

What's up with the audio in the full speed recordings? I'm assuming that's a 2.5mm cable that's faulty or picking up interference from other electronic devices or audio devices attached to the computer or sound card? I noticed in Katsukity's test that it crackled heavily 3/4 of the way through the video, to the point where it would be very hard to noise reduce it with editing software to a level where you could barely hear it without hurting the game audio.

Really appreciate everything you guys have done with this. It's amazing!

Let me know on here or through e-mail as soon as you're ready to take orders, Loopy. I'm willing to send you my 3DS ASAP for the modification. (I think I said this to you earlier, but my 3DS is a PAL 3DS, so my games are PAL hence why I want this one modded.) - I'll be happy to arrange any shipping terms that suit you.

Thanks so much for this again.

Ground loop, I think.  Kinda sucks.  Once I get digital audio capture working it will go away.
