Will the application be multi-platform? If not, what language is it coded in?
It's written in c++.  Multi-platform is not currently planned.  Demand for it has been virtually nil, for either DS or 3DS.  I will at least provide some sample code for Linux like I did with the DS board though.
I can port a C++ exe for Mac, so no worries there. I was scared it would be C#.

My bro was doing a complete port to Objective-C, but the biggest problems, are the DLL files, and Windows-specific lines of code.
Plus the fact, that the original App was made in Visual C++, which makes stuff harder.

As of the recent Nintendo Direct broadcast:

Nintendo has announced a new 3DS design called the 3DS XL (LL in Japan). Where the the screens are the biggest ever for a Nintendo portable and improved battery life:

When playing 3DS software:
3DS original 3-5 hours
3DS XL: 3.5-6.5 hours

No second stick/extra shoulder buttons and most surprising, there isn't a AC adapter. They did this to reduce package costs.... going back to 2001 eh Nintendo?

Release Dates:
Japan: 28th July (unconfirmed)
Europe: 28th July. It will come in red, blue and a neat silver & black version. No price on this yet because of £ and Euros
North America:  $199.99 on 19th August, alongside New Super Mario Bros. 2. It will be available in red and blue.

Pokémon Typing Adventure for DS, which arrives in Europe this September.

It was actually confirmed that US release will include an AC adapter, but not Japan
Are you turning this thread into a general Nintendo news discussion topic now? Why do we need that here?
Actually, the 3DS XL is heavily related to the development of this project. I'm personally wondering what considerations Loopy will take when it comes to this news. Perhaps the Card would work with the 3DS XL, but the back casing would have to be larger?

Don't worry esp4D I won't derail the thread, it was posted to let the modders know that there is a second 3DS model. It might be better space wise or worse programming wise (which is why there isn't a DS Lite video mod yet).

The DS Lite would require soldering almost two times as much as it has separate signals for both screens. That and the fact that it is a lot more packed inside are the reasons why hardly anyone ever bothered, and I think there is no need to make a DS Lite capture at this point anymore.

I think it's not worth looking into modding the 3DS XL for capturing as long as the current 3DS capture isn't finished. One would very likely have to go through a process of looking for the right soldering points on the 3DS XL circuit board by analyzing the signals again. And for what reason would one spend time on this kind of research? It has no significant differences to the regular 3DS model, just some physically larger components.

Yes, even if the XL screens work exactly the same as the old 3DS, I'll need to change the shape of the board and connecting cable.  Maybe the larger 3DS will allow a capture card to fit inside it (like Slowking wanted to do, a few posts back).

I doubt there would be any more space.

Well considering that they are stuffing the same hardware into a larger shell, I suspect that there will be at least a little extra space. Whether or not there is enough for loopy's device to fit is still up in the air.

But you should also consider, that they doubled battery life, while adding larger screens. That means most of the lower part will be battery. Which also accounts for the fact that that thing a 100g heavyer than the normal 3DS.
But I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Btw. it's really cool that you future proofed this capture device for digital audio, loopy. Ofcourse that will only happen after everything else works perfectly, but it's a nice touch. Smiley

Don't make the battery bigger than it could be, as the battery life is improved by an half hour (according to Nintendo of Japan's Micro Site).

I've heard multiple times that battery life was doubled. But then again that might have been a misstranslation, everybody just went with. Thanks for clearing that up.
Still from the fact that it can sustain these big screens so long and the weight, you can see that it is pretty big.

Well, it DOES get confusing when you have multiple people using the same persona...
[edit]
To make this more relevant- The board design is finalized, I'll be putting in an order for 300 or so Real Soon Now (once I move some money around... why do paypal transfers take so dang long?)

better?  Cheesy

Yay for finished board design! ^^
What was the problem with the last prototype if I might ask?

Agreed. Seems like they do it for the purpose of advertising their site at any possible moment and occasion.

Did you you have to make any changes that affect the compatibility/performance of your first board?
Quote from Slowking:

There were no significant changes... a minor wiring error on a small component, and some adjustments to the board shape.

No.
Visually Appealing
With the XL coming out, I am definitely willing to have my old 3DS modded.
Hello gentlemen, Any updates on the 3DS Capture Card? ^_^
