Come on....the map's been out a week or more, the route is bloody obvious, the tricks are not that hard (okay too hard for me to do them all in one run), it would make a 1337 run so where is it??
Thread title:
Hell is where the heart is.
It's never been our policy to add a map to the archive just because it's got "an obvious route".

However, patience may just turn out to be a virtue.
tja, het is verorberen en verorberd worden
I would add royalwar first much more intresting from a runner point of view
yuck fou
seriously basil you are one annoying sob.
all you ever do nowadays is whine whine whine.

WTFU? I whine? about what?
yuck fou
about not adding could but rather add a map you like (which you've been on about for ages).
about how the eyecandy sucks in the the rabbit run and the promo movie.

ok, maybe it wasn't that much but think before you write something and I'll do the same (i.e. not be so harsh like I was in the post above, it was uncalled for, soz)
tja, het is verorberen en verorberd worden
ok, i was going on about the colors a bit to long...
over time I have suggested Royalwar couple of times but I don't think I was whining because:

- I never bugged anyone for it, just mentioned it from time to time on the boards
-never complained that it wasn't done
-tried to explain why i thought it should be added

and that last post wasn't to serious (could).
I think (almost) every map that get's added is a milestone in (SDA's) history

3 new maps:

Now for the whining:)

For as far as I Know rpg made could with speedrunning in mind. For a experienced mapper i think you done bad (considering the goal of making a map wich would be nice to speedrun). I think this is because you aren't a speedrunner (I don't know if this is true). This obviously is not a result of your mapping skills, the map looked nice even in lowres Smiley

why I don't like the map for speedrunning I'm not sure but I think the mayority of the runners won't experience this as a very nice map to run (though i heard that some 100% nightmare master did like it). Wich is to bad.

Now I just got this idea:

mappers like to map
speedrunners like to play them

(love comes from two sides)

and i have notices they both like to have contests.

how about a contest wherein 1 mapper and 1 runner are put in teams create a map with speedrunning in mind?

Orbs you are well off the mark there to the point I am tempted to classify you as "idiot".

For as far as I Know rpg made could with speedrunning in mind. For a experienced mapper i think you done bad (considering the goal of making a map wich would be nice to speedrun).

It wasn't made FOR speedrunning. It was made FOR single player, and RPG acknowledged the shortcuts made available by the design and deliberately avoided blocking them off, thus leaving it shortcutable and runnable.

A SP map that happens to be good for running, hardly a novel idea.

I'm not bloody sure either. It has obvious shortcuts. It features a variety of tricks. It is, in essence, a perfectly good and normal route. Given some of the total shit (and completely unsuitable running) maps that have been run on SDA, there's no good reason why this one shouldn't be. Okay so maybe it is a little disappointing, in this day and age, that the tricks are so obvious....but on the other hand, optimising them is much less obvious, a lot of room for improvements.

Slackers.

I typed a lot but i lost it Smiley
ok here it goes in short,

first of all i was trying not to be solely negative, just tried to express the fact that i was a bit dissapointed (probably cuz i hoped for something else)

I just think that "we" (the runners) could be  a source of demand /appreciation/feedback for them (the mappers). I don't think there will still be very much "normalsingleQ1players" so "we" are becoming a relative quite big piece of the cake. I think because speedrunning is a bit a different game then normalSP it's something fresh for mappers/a challenge/a inspiration. result: they learn, become (even) better mappers, we applaud, we do demo's, they applaud, all happy:)

When i see a improved dmsp record on SDA i watch that one first even if there is a idrecord on the same update, i see it as a big compliment , and i'm curious.

looks like i'm not alone:

This is a general missive to all at SDA,
As a mapper who, earlier this year, struggled through the process of piecing together then tearing apart three attempts at a Coagula style level, I was a bit apprehensive about offering a completed level up to a bunch of speed freaks. After all, if I was going to spend months producing a quality product, I didn't want it blown off in a few seconds. However, after ELEK encouraged all potential coagula mappers to keep speed running in mind, I took the unconventional step of emptying Usher Recompiled on "easy".
Last night I got my first opportunity to view the runs produced on my level. The aerial control in 033, 032 and 031 at the point following silver key acquisition is something I'd never even considered. However, what really made me stand up and cheer was the combination of slope jumps and grenade jumps involved in Jozsef's 027 run. Stand up and cheer?!! Didn't I say earlier that I didn't want the level blown off in a few seconds. Yes, but what I hadn't understood at that point was that speed runners don't "play" levels, they "know" levels (in some ways, more intimately than any straight SP player ever wants to). So Jozsef blew the level off in 27 seconds... to do so meant that Jozsef had to become involved with the level. This makes me a very happy mapper.
Hats off and thankyou, you've put the icing on my experience with the Coagula 2 competition.
*puts on robe and wizard hat*
I've done it. I sure as hell ain't gonna do the run with the ogre-gj in it. It takes too much luck to get that right.
Hell is where the heart is.
Amrik. Any danger of you sending it in?
Lapsed Quaker...
Amrik, you do know about making sure the OG bounces off the little in-facing corner set into the out-facing corner as the corridor turns in towards the lift, right?? Gets the G in a good position most times...
yuck fou
1:12
as shambler said with the placement, real easy.
the rest is basically even bitchier, I always fuck up at the end. I'll give it some more time, and if it doesn't work I'll send that crappy demo in as a table filler

Yeah shambler I was experimenting with that after I sent in my tablefiller and turns out the ogre-gj is really easy. About 1:00 could be possible if the jump is done properly. BTW lodis your crap demo can't match my crap-er demo. Smiley

We haven't received any demos from you.

What the fuck? Is there anyplace I can upload the demo/send it to you all? Obviously my mail is down.
yuck fou
how fast is your run amrikky?
I sent in a 1:03 which is indeed crappy...
*puts on robe and wizard hat*
I'm aiming for < 1 min but I don't feel like doing it anymore. Sad
yuck fou
awwww go on. My demo is sucky so it'd be nice to see a proper demo on it.
r4wk could.bsp demos at SDA w00tang dl now kthx!!!

Amrik: what route do you use? OGJ+little slopejump -> GL ->slopejump -> slopejump -> GJ -> GJ?

and somehow you can't get it smooth?
that's my story anyway, i get stuck so many times on my way to to gl behind the arches, am fooling around at that little slopejump to GL  and miss the GJ's far to often. Somehow everytime i play that map i get anoyed as fuck
(my best is 1:06)

lodis said you could slope OGJ in the first open area, wich looks realy hard to me but i wonder if it would pay of, you don't want to push the buttons at the end, so that would be another hard OGJ i geuss?

but then again I can't find one secret*, it could contain RL Quad & Penta so you never know....^^

* i know: the one at the start, the GL and the one at SK with the crane wich moves a box
Hell is where the heart is.
Other secret is a 100H behind a shooty secret door on a ledge by the gold key. Sorry Basil, not much help there.
tja, het is verorberen en verorberd worden
thx, damn no quad penta or rl
