is it a raw capture?

PSP Cables to Capture Card to Amarec and then ran it through anri-chan for the sample (If that's what you meant ^^;)
why is it cropped? did you use anri's sample generator on the raw video or did you actually try to encode it?

I had it cropped in Amarec while recording, and I used the sample generator on the raw video from Amarec.
what cable are you capturing with?
Kupo!
Official Sony Composite cables (my card doesn't have component support).

Raw video file without cropping in Amarec: http://www.mediafire.com/?j3c82hkvcz2v8yj (also didn't run it through anri-chan's sample generator)
i wonder why it's progressive scan. that is so weird. maybe it's just f2 and the stars aligned or something.

anyway, i'm not really sure what to tell you. if you crop it in amarec then you can tell anri it's progressive scan or a "pc game" or whatever and avoid all of the dfnd stuff. but if the progressive scan doesn't hold and it starts looking like this then you will have to not crop it and go through the normal interlaced path saying d1 f2 3d and doing the cropping via anri to get anri to deinterlace it and encode it properly.

basically it may be a good idea not to crop in amarec and to crop in anri instead in order to avoid possible problems later.
The Dork Knight himself.
rinimt: are you recording the preview window with Fraps to get your footage? I looked all through Amarec and only the preview window allows for cropping. That would also explain how it came out progressive since you can deinterlace on the fly, but again only in the preview window. If you are using Amarec's built-in recording, make sure the Filter is set to off.

This is Resident Evil: Code Veronica X HD. It's in 50hz because the pal PS3 refuses to play most ntsc games in 60hz.

The sound peaks because of the distribution amplifier and I havent figured out how to fix it. Using crappier sound cables don't work so I'm sticking with the gold plated ones. Tongue
d1 f1 3d

some of the worst dot crawl i've ever seen ... yikes.
Yeah, it looks like VHS. D: I'll record another sample with the gold cables.

I've seen this happen before when 60hz games are played at 50hz (or vice versa I don't remember exactly).
Legend of Dragoon - PS
Sample 1 and Sample 2.

I'm guessing D4 F1 3D.

yes, go with this. outside of battle is f2 and inside of battle is f3. if you encode at f2 then you will get bad jitter. only real solution is to encode at f1. btw, you will need to use one of the 1-pixel bob options anri presents you with.

Raw file. Captured with EzCAP using VB.

Currently not doing any TS runs for SDA but I might do in the future. Thanks in advance, Nate.

Splatterhouse for Arcade (JP Wii VC version)

This one is weird to me, because LQ/NQ look better to me when I have option 2 on for bobbing (for d4), but if I choose d1, HQ looks much better and doesn't seem to have bobbing at all.

yeah, it's been deflickered, probably in a nonstandard way. if none of the bobbing options results in good d4 output then just go with d1 f1 2d.

Still trying to figure out how the hell to actually work with those files so I figure every detail giving me something I can try helps.

Bionic Commando Rearmed, XBLA. Sample. Directly from the capture device.
looks great to me. this is f1 progressive scan material.
Ys 3, a Turbo Duo/PC Engine game played via PSN on a PSP.

PSP -> S-Video -> Dazzle

It seems much happier with D1 than with D4.  Also, I have flicker reduction set to "on" in the PSP settings.  Do I want to leave this off?  Thanks for the help.

looks fine to me so far. stuff like this is going to be d4 f1 2d. be sure to crop off the border. i can't remember whether anri has a question about psp or not.

yes. this may be part of the reason why.
Thanks, Nate.

I don't understand the nuance, but the quality seems a lot better with D1 (I can't make out any words with D4).  D4 seems to be the answer for these old games but would the PSP be doing something funny here?  There is no PSP prompt in Anri.

I also tested the flicker reduction setting and keeping it on seems to help.

I've attached some short clips: 1) d4f1, 2) d1f1 flicker reduction off, and 3) d1f1 flicker reduction on.  When you have a moment, let me know what you think.  Thanks.
