That's Imperishable Night, the latest game out of eight (number nine, Phantasmagoria of Flower View, is on its way) in the Touhou series (my favourite game series ever). The first five came to PC-98, a computer that only came in Japan (I know where you can get emulator+ROMs for those, though - PM me if you want). The following three games came for Windows, named Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, Perfect Cherry Blossom (Best. Game. Ever.) and Imperishable Night (duh) - you can find demos here:

Very nice, I got the demo of PCB and spent a funny evening with it.... very very nice learning curve.

But I think I'd have to play this game A LOT to stand a chance on hard or lunatic.... got only 58mio pts on normal with 1 death and 1 bomb.

You don't think you could produce us some nice replays on the demo? (I found a 150mio replay for the demo, but on normal) 8)

EDIT: You also could have written a note that these games are addictive....

175,392,070, ReimuB, all clear.

Demo replays are scarce, people only play the full version... which, I tell you, gets INSANE after stage three.

Addictive? You tell me about it! I've said to myself that I will 1CC IN on normal with all four teams before returning to PCB and EoSD (and the PC-98 games). So far, I've only done it with Border Team - Reimu (red/white shrine maiden with homing fudas) and Yukari (purplish girl with homing helper). 1CCing it with Magic Team - Marisa (black witch) and Alice (blue with book and doll) - is my current goal... Reimu and Reisen keeps killing me.

Not only addictive, I can rant about them for hours if noone stops me... *gets shot with magic bullet patterns*

Those were some fun demos! I've never really been into the spaceship shooting games, especially those involving young girls ???, but the amount of pixels flying around the screen while trying to kill the bosses make for some very fun (and amazing looking) gameplay. Are the full versions much different?

More levels (six instead of three, plus the insane extra stage, unlocked by clearing the games on normal), possible to select 32-bit graphics instead of 16-bit, possible to select wav music instead of midi.

I wrote a long post about Andypro and his Touhou scoring, but hit the Reset button instead of the Post button. I'm too used to phpBB, where the Post button is to the far right... I want to kill that Reset button.

Anyway, I watched the Last Word video. I understand how Andy managed to beat Leviathean (the first non-Japanese player to get a ten-digit score) by 300 million points in PCB...

Anyway, a demo of Phantasmagoria of Flower View is out - but you will have to resort to less legal ways (torrent) to acquire it, as ZUN sold it at Reitaisai (Touhou event in Japan). There's usually two demos of the Touhou games, one free and one commercial (I think it's ~300 yen for the commercial one) . the difference being that the free only has midi music where the commercial is released on CD and has wav music. Sadly, PoFV ain't such a great game.

The Imperishable Night video is hard to follow if you don't know the game. The fights are played back in fast mode aren't they? (if not AndyPro needs some good medication...)

Not at all.

But... what the hey... 30 FPS? That's supposed to be 60! But I think that's a replay option or something...uuh... anyway, that's definitely the real speed - I clearly see that from the speed Yukari is moving plus the speed of the time points. I've played IN a bit too much to not see that...

Oh well. From looking at it, I'm laughing at the insaneness of those patterns... what's funny is that Wriggle, thie first boss in the game, seems to have one of the more fearsome Last Words. Marisa had a funny one, it looks like a mix of two of her spellcards in Immaterial and Missing Power... one where she zooms across the screen on her broom, while sprouting stars, and Final Spark Tree (I'm not sure it's the real name, but I've heard it being called that) - one big freaking blast of magic awesomeness. Looks like this:

Yup, the IN video is shown at actual gameplay speed. I've known Andypro for several years now, and he's really a top notch gamer with quite a few very impressive accomplishments.

Sometimes I get busy and miss an SDA update and then find out about an awesome video weeks after it was published... Doh!

Sooo, finished the PCB video as well.

What should I say? He doubles my score on the first 3 levels alone. I'll keep this dear to shut up the occasional kid who brags about his gaming skills Wink

How much of the score is grazing? I can see his grazing score and the value he gets awarded at the very end for it, but that seems hardly worth the trouble. Does it influence other parts of the game as well?
