I'm indifferent towards YaBB 1G - SP1!
Hey, looking to buy a capture card, probably off ebuyer (ebuyer.co.uk) but I'm not sure really what kind of card I need. To be able to capture good quality pictures what resolution do I need (using PAL equipment), and is it important to get a card that captures stereo sound rather than mono? Also, can anyone recommend a good capture card?

I'm addicted to games
I can't answer anything about PAL cards but I can tell you that most cards don't even capture sound. Instead you use your computer's sound card.  And ever sound card I've ever known can record in stereo.... even mine from 1996.
Nate uses the ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 and can capture both NTSC & PAL, so I assume it would be a safe bet. For a little more there's the Canopus ADVC-50. If you're on a budget, Adaptec makes the VideOh! line.

I don't have experience with any of them, but if forced to choose I would go with the Canopus, simply because they deal more in prosumer/professional equipment, while ATI and Adaptec are aimed at the consumer market.

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I also have the AIW 9600 and it works great. Although you might want to use older drivers for it since the more recent ones make my capture window vibrate like crazy. Not too expensive on Ebay and not too shabby for PC games either.

On an unrelated note, when the hell is someone going to release a card with component inputs for 480p, 720p? What's the hold up???
