I downloaded your run from the marathon arkarain, but I haven't watched all of it yet. There's a shortcut you'd missed in Chapter 25. It's at the part where you have to climb up a wall, jump off a rope (you jump right to it in the video), hang off a post and shoot some tree sap to get a clear shot at more tree sap in order to progress. You can skip this whole process by simply throwing a grenade up onto the ledge next to the sap, or onto the sap itself. It saves well over 30 seconds. I'll watch the rest over the course of this week. I hope you still want to do this speedrun.

nice find. unfortunately there's no way i'm going to have time to submit a speed run of this game, so hopefully someone else will want to build on what i've done and make something truly great. i look forward to it.

Ahoy there guys! Looking to pick up this run; I currently run the new Tomb Raider game, I really enjoy running 3rd-person platformer/shooters, and I've seen some of the tricks in this which make it look like a really interesting run. Are there any people still running this? Is there a good run with skips included I can use as reference? I'm currently trying to piece together information from the post earlier in the thread and watch Findlestick's videos to learn the necessary tech, as well as watching Arkarian's runs from AGDQ which seems to omit most skips.

Sorry for the huge thread bump, but thanks for any info! \o/

This guy has been very sporadic in his uploading (took him nearly a year to upload the run) but this does feature the route and all skips: https://www.youtube.com/user/mcdoublec1/videos

He's not uploaded the last chapter but hopefully it's uploaded in the next week or so. He says his final time was 2:20:25 but I think that is via RTA. The run isn't really optimal but it shows a good indication of what should be done. A really good run should be close to/under 2 hours IGT.

Thanks a bundle Thrillness! Should be working on it this week. \o/

Found a small skip at the end of Chapter 8 (30 seconds or something):

I so want to skip the puzzle to, it's very annoying. I also found a smallish airwalk in mountaineering that isn't used which also saves another 50 seconds or so (this skips lots of climbing and checkpoints you over. In segmented you could split the next airwalk up). Video here:

I also improved the train skip:

That saves another like 40-50 seconds I think. That's like 2 minutes saved from one day of searching!
Cool stuff man, nice job!

Awesome stuff Thrillness! Good to see people are still working on skips for this game. I've just gone through the game learning the floats and other skips, getting ready to do some runs soon; but I'm having trouble with the train skip. (I haven't tried from the spot in your recent video though.)

Is it simply changing directions while in cover then aiming forward, or is there something more subtle going on? Thanks for any help, I'll hopefully go skip-hunting soon myself. \o/

It's pretty much just a quick right, left then L1. Repeat. Sometimes even I don't move much. I do think that doing it very fast helps you move more though. I always try to catch your stream but stupid timezones!

I actually want to put lots of effort into a chapter 2-16 skip. Look here at 0:50:

Chapter 1 is basically chapter 15 but with a trigger that sends you to chapter 2. Skip past that HUGE trigger and we have an insane skip. I've gotten very close myself.
I'm really interested in picking this game up.  I'm going to try to find more time savers since I believe there are A LOT of things yet to be discovered especially that potential chapter 1 to 15 skip. That's insane.

At the time that I made that Glitch Package video, I also recall air walking onto the roof of one of the carriages (not sure if it's in one of my videos). From there it might be possible to do this skip. But I can't recall the finer details of attempting that option.

Hey findlesticks, I recently started practicing airwalking. I watched all your videos about this game and I gotta say very nice finds. Can you tell me how you airwalk without having the camera pointed down. I tried to look for tutorials on how to do it, but I only get the ones that require a small wall to hop over. Also, does anyone have their own setup for airwalking? I'd really like to know.

For me it seems like some airwalks require slower/faster presses of up/L1. I've literally tried mashing L1 something like 10 times a second and he will still fall. It's all about getting a consistent tempo (I think maybe like 5 presses a second on average is good).

I do think getting past the trigger in Chapter 1 is possible but the problem is, what do you do once you get past it? The area you get to normally is the start of a fight, warped there from a cutscene. The only conceivable way to actually "progress" in the game would be to hit the trigger for Chapter 16 after the fight where you climb up here: http://i.imgur.com/m6u6aSQ.png

I just highly doubt the devs put the chapter 16 cutscene there (which is only achievable by doing the fight). Then again most stuff has shown that triggers are all active even when you skip lots. There is a small chance it is there.

Edit: Okay just spent about 4 hours on the 2-15 skip and I pretty much got it (I think). My hand just hurts too much to airwalk consistently anymore (plus I generally suck at airwalks anyway). I've got this far 4 times and each time I drop it. I should note that once you get up on that little top part, jumping anywhere to the left will trigger the cutscene.

I'd like to try some air walking too but I can't seem to do it (I could when I tried a year or so ago). When I try to air walk out of that container, Nate just grabs onto the ledge. Am I supposed to mash both up and L1? I am playing the unpatched version.

EDIT: Tried it with grenades which I can do just fine.

Happens a lot for me to (again it's all about how fast you mash L1). You don't have to mash both. You only use up if you don't have a gun. If the 2-15 skip is gonna happen, now is a great time for us to try. If everybody posting (me, box, findle, kae, potato) each try something similar to my video (or even a new idea) then surely one of us will get an attempt where the last airwalk succeeds over to that area.

I found another use for the airwalk at the start of Chapter 1 which saves like 20-25 seconds. Just airwalk off the right side here: http://i.imgur.com/Etr85Us.png

It can be difficult to get past the hole without the cutscene but it is possible to press circle and corner cover to the other side. I guess I'll upload the video if the explanation is bad.

I DID IT! Cheesy Cheesy

Chapter 2-15 Skip is possible! There HAS to be a way to overcome our last obstacle.... THERE HAS TO BE. Come on guys let's do this!

Edit: It's hopeless. I managed to get past the two enemies by climbing exactly right up to the top part and....... NO CHAPTER 16 TRIGGER! Cheesy

2nd edit: Okay we might have hope. I did the same ledge skip in Chapter 15 and even that doesn't load the Chapter 16 trigger (cause if it did you would have a battle skip). We have to find a way to fool the game into thinking we did the battle from inside Chapter 1 and we still got this. The problem is the two dudes that spawn and kill me in the video, I'm sure they have infinite health or something. Maybe a nade might work and then we just climb back up? The Chapter 16 trigger spawns the second you kill the last guy in the fight.

Awesome job Thrillness!

I can't help look just yet, but I'll be keen to try this out once I have some free time. Best of luck until then! \o/

EDIT: Had moment to play with the train skip and got it with the new method; it's a much better spot; thanks Thrillness! \o/

I also wanted to find out what happened when you let go of the trigger during the waiting for the train to come back, so I waited for the checkpoint to trigger, and let go; the camera went spastic for about 30 seconds and I triggered a few short cutscenes which kept interrupting each other, then suddenly I triggered the 'killing the final boss' cutscene. So I skipped a bit of combat; not sure if it saved time, but it looked pretty amazing and skips a bit of combat. Not sure if consistent, I only had about 10 minutes.

Small Chapter 1 skip:

Going to be useful whether or not the 2-15 skip works as it happens before then anyway. Smiley
thethrillness.blogspot.com
Okay I tried the 2-15 skip again and it's not possible. I went to Chapter 15 and I managed to activate the ledge guys then do a jump that goes JUST past the death trigger and I walked all the way to the right and I just died. I then killed the enemies and did the same jump. I didn't even get far to the right and the Chapter 16 trigger played. It must only activate it once you kill the enemies which of course is impossible from Chapter 1.

On Potato's stream yesterday he showed me how he skips the boss on the train. Basically once you get the checkpoint, you just let go of aim and two things will either happen:

1. The camera will go crazy and show 2 cutscenes before skipping the boss. This is still JUST faster than actually fighting the boss (100% consistent).
2. If you let go of aim right after the checkpoint happens you have a high chance of just pretty much immediately triggering the ending cutscene (see video).

Both ways take care of the boss RNG. One less fight is always good.

this stuff is a lot of fun to watch. so glad to see there's more interest in this game!

Hey guys, I'm currently spending a lot of time into this game to find a good route for SS runs. I'm currently using the segmented route by https://www.youtube.com/user/mcdoublec1/videos as a reference, but I've already found a bunch of more airwalk skips that can be added (that haven't already been posted in this thread). I'll post a list of all of them in a couple of minutes, since I'm a little busy atm.
thethrillness.blogspot.com
Sounds good Lightning. The mcdoublec1 run doesn't use all of the skips for some reason. Either they were too hard or he didn't know about them. I was going to do a tutorial video on every skip that currently exists but I don't know if there is enough interest.

Anyway, I just got totally screwed on a Chapter 9 skip. I managed to wall breach myself into the ladder of the Chapter 9 puzzle and descend down it... the triangle prompt was there to end Chapter 9 and....... THE TRIANGLE PROMPT DID NOTHING. The game must check that you actually complete the puzzle before giving you the cutscene. Sad

thethrillness.blogspot.com
Great news! The game finally caved in for another pretty decent skip. A dual Chapter 5 fight skip!

You could originally skip the second fight but it required you to do a really long airwalk (as shown in the speedrun). My method is wallbreach (not pressing L1) and then a tiny airwalk to the ladder from the truck. You probably couldn't do this on anything other than Very Easy but that's fine. I know the wallbreach takes me awhile but the one shown is like average (plus I only just got used to doing it without pressing L1). The breach could easily be improved by like 10 seconds and probably even more. Make sure the game fully loads the next area before you jump out.

These are some of the skips that I've found:

CH3:
- Skip the fight in the pit: http://www.twitch.tv/immersed13/b/549469947?t=10m27s

CH5:
- Skip the first section of going through collapsing buildings: http://www.twitch.tv/immersed13/b/549469947?t=1h48m22s (there is a more consistent method of doing this than what I do in the video)

CH6:
- Another way of skipping the first fight: http://www.twitch.tv/immersed13/b/549469947?t=2h26m16s. After skipping it this way, the floor in the building doesn't have colision detection. So go back to the staircase to load Chloe first, then you can continue.

CH17:
- Skip the cutscene of finding the body on the ice bridge, plus a section of wall climbing: http://www.twitch.tv/immersed13/b/549469947?t=28m38s
- Skip another cutscene: http://www.twitch.tv/immersed13/b/549469947?t=30m12s
- Skips both the battle with the monster plus a climbing section before and after it (I didn't manage to hit the jump button at the end while testing, but I've done this skip before so it's doable): http://www.twitch.tv/immersed13/b/549469947?t=33m19s

CH22:
- Skip a cutscene of not being able to open a door: http://www.twitch.tv/immersed13/b/549469947?t=1h9m0s
- I also tried skipping the first fight by airwalking to a section behind the door, but I've tried it a bunch of times and it seems none of the objects behind the door have collision detection. Might need some more testing though...

EDIT: Also I've noticed that mashing the up button as fast as you can while making left analog stick motions is the way that people usually describe airwalking, but I'm using a different method. I just hold the left analog stick forward and press and hold the up button for very short time periods, but in a slower frequency than just mashing (around 4-5 times per second). This method is incredibly consistent for long airwalks, but it also makes you lose height more easily. I haven't gotten the very short skips in for example CH6 and CH12 first fights to work at all, but I can do most long airwalks very consistently.
