Idling on speedrunslive, it got a little awkward spamming "hay guise RE?!?!?" every so often, so I'm just going to make a post here and try to coordinate something with other people who might be interested in learning the games. Forums work out better for pickups, since, honestly, who knows when that rare person who wants to race a game with you is going to be active in a real-time chat at that given moment, and finding other people who want to race would actually be a great purpose for the casual speedrunning board.
If you're interested in speedrunning RE at all (don't worry, there's people besides me to race) then join #biohazard at irc.speeddemosarchive.com ! (here's a mibbit link for those of you who are IRC illiterate: http://tinyurl.com/bzjdhrz )
There is also a wiki I started with a couple of guys which we're using to catalog all the old WRs and stuff. I want to include more strats and whatnot in there, but check it out anyway:
http://biohazardta.wikia.com
Versions chosen for racing:
Resident Evil 0 (GameCube)*
REmake (GameCube)*
Resident Evil: Deadly Silence (DS)
Biohazard 2 Sourcenext Port (PC)
Resident Evil 3 (PC)
Resident Evil: Code Veronica (PS3/360)
Resident Evil 4 (PS3/360)
Resident Evil 5 (PS3/360)
*PAL players must play 60 Hz Mode only unless you are racing 50 Hz with other PAL Players.
These versions were chosen because they are easily obtained versions of the games, and can be played consistently between all regions with no timing/difficulty/hardware discrepancies. Other versions can be played on a case-by-case basis, but the versions listed here should be standard for races with more than two entrants in order to keep everything fair.
I chose Gamecube REmake and RE0 over their Wii counterparts due to disc changes, and because it's a superior version overall anyway, due to better disc sector reads and higher aspect ratio.
RE3 on PC was chosen for obvious reasons; high compatibility, and you can skip both cutscenes and doors.
The Sourcenext port of Biohazard 2 was a re-release of the PC version for Windows XP that happened only in Japan, which fixes all of the game's compatibility errors, but it's rather hard to find in all of the 'usual' places. It's also in Japanese, but if you're racing the game, then chances are you know what you're doing. I can help you get it. Like the PC version of RE3, you can also skip doors.
Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica's PSN and XBLA ports were chosen because they will run at 60Hz in any region. The PSN version is known to have slightly faster load times, but the advantage should be negligible as far as racing goes.
Starting positions (literally, the last selection you make before the game begins):
RE 0 - Difficulty Selection
REmake - Character Selection
RE:DS - Character Selection
BH2PC - Difficulty Selection
RE3PC - Costume Selection
RE:CVX - Highlight "New Game"
RE4 - Difficulty Selection
RE5 - Highlight "Start Game" or "Ready" in inventory select screen once co-op players have joined.
".done" positions (the last input you make before the end of the game, accounting for whether you can advance the ending or not):
RE 0 - Results screen
REmake - Results Screen
RE:DS - Results Screen
BH2PC - Ending FMV
RE3PC - Ending FMV
RE:CVX - Ending FMVs
RE4 - Results Screen
RE5 - Results Screen
When RaceBot declares "Go!", hit your designated "Confirm" button. I went with SDA timing to ensure that everyone starts on the same frame, and an area where the player is designated "finished" with the game and can type ".done".
