Glitching :3
Hello,

Just finished the game and realized there were no thread for it. As you guys may know, there's a speedrunning trophy for finishing the game under 5 hours.

There's already a speedrun uploaded on youtube by PowerPyx.

I'll copypaste his tricks and tips :

Quote:
Here are a few tips when going for Lightning Emissary & Untouchable Emissary:

- There is no way to see your in-game time. Use a stopwatch to keep track.
- Restarting checkpoints does not count as a death. Make use of this when you are about to die, miss a jump or fall into the abyss.
- Getting eaten by Trico does not count as a death. He will eat you in the antenna rooms which is part of the story and results in a cutscene.
- Back up your save game whenever you've completed a section quickly (USB device / PS+ Cloud). If you were slow reload that save to try again. Go to PS4 Settings - Application Saved Data Management to backup and restore save games.
- Sometimes Trico just glitches out and doesn't do what he's supposed to. The controls are also a nightmare sometimes. These are common problems and the biggest challenge in beating the 5 hour target. You always have to get lucky that Trico listens to your commands. If you are stuck for too long reload your last backup save.
- When pausing the game you should also dashboard out to the XMB (press PS-Button after pausing). This is probably not needed but the safest option as it will stop the game entirely.
- I started a COMPLETELY NEW GAME when doing this. After finishing the game you will see a "Continue" option in the title screen which puts you in New Game+. Just to be safe I deleted my save game and started from scratch (PS4 Settings - Application Saved Data Management). This is probably not needed, but the safest option (you can back up your old save game before deleting it).
- There is no chapter select. This means the only way to practice is by reloading your backed-up save. Then play the next section until you are satisfied with your speed. Reload the save from USB/PS+ to practice the section again.
- The game keeps counting the time when you die (and doesn't reset timer to last checkpoint). Dying can cost a lot of time if you have to repeat long sections. Always reload the backup save when you die.
- R1+Triangle tells Trico to jump up. Face in the direction you want him to jump to. This is the command you'll need the most (works only after unlocking this skill a little while after first antenna).

I'm pretty sure many physics tricks could be found also - and I hope they'll be better than the lame one I found :

Let's run this masterpiece at full speed !
Thread title:
That's a really nice shortcut. That thing takes ages to climb around.

There's away to climb chains faster which is to tap up just as he finishes the previous animation. I don't think it's faster than jumping, but jumping has a delay at the end.

When on wooden beams where the kid moves super slow, you can jump which is WAY faster.

There's a few places where you can cut corners by jumping. Nothing major but worth doing.

I've also been launched across a room horizontally by Trico when he was raging after a battle. I tried to climb his leg and his knee came out as I jumped towards it so maybe something can be done with the physics.

Overall, the game is super slow and no way to speed it up that I can see unless some insane breaks are found.

Found this glitch but it didn't lead to anything. Just posting it to generate ideas or if anyone wants to mess with it.

trepidation
I just spent about 15 minutes trying to get that glass eye skip to work. I finally got it, but I seriously question whether it is a runnable trick or not (unless someone has a reliable set up).  Getting to the top piece of glass is fairly easy, but getting him to grab the top rung is fairly random. Like I said, I made it once in fifteen minutes. It also caused a weird Trico glitch where he appeared to levitate and caused him to be unresponsive. I'll try to upload the video I saved.

Most of the skips I've found have been recognizing latch points, and jumping from Trico to them early. The game is super organic, in that much of the platforming isn't scripted, and  if you can make a jump, then there is a skip to be had.

I'm finding the game very fun to run, as there are nearly always corners to cut. The only thing is that some skips are very precise, and death is very costly (as the game is rta only).  I'd like to see some more strats and more activity in this thread. There are a few places where a physics exploit could blow the game wide open.

Even without major skips, I could see this hitting the 4 hour mark pretty easily.

I've seen several glitches on various Youtube Let's Plays, The most useful was the barrel puzzle skip which bowlingotter found by accident. In the room where you throw the barrel across a gap and jump over to grab it before it rolls down the slope, you can just walk around to the back of the final slope and step up on the corner there.

Likewise, a possible very small time save, the barrel puzzle with the crates, you can step up onto the crate while holding the barrel from the corner of the room, if you are standing on the stairs.

Edit: Here you go. Splits are linked in the description.

I'm not sure if the time marked is generally the accepted time. It's just after the last input required to complete the game.

Plenty of room for improvements. Your turn.

Well, there we go. Someone got it under 3:30

That's insanely low. Did this player find new skips or something?

Sorry, I can't watch through this game at the moment. I played it too much on release.

I watched it last night. The main optimisation is checkpoint restarts which can skip lots of time waiting for Trico.

No major sequence breaks.

A lot of time saved in the early stone guard fights, where he just runs past most of them. Both barrel puzzles short-cut by walking up terrain. He is also pretty good at just going fast in general, but he also does some really strange things that cost several deaths, I think he is trying to abuse physics to get Trico to fling him up onto a platform but it never works.

The run would be beatable with a bit of practise and some good luck.

This is another attempt of mine, I've put a comment listing the notable skips, so you can see just the interesting bits.

This was recorded before i watched the other one so doesn't use all the tricks.
