I made a run submission, but didn't see anywhere to actually link to or upload my video footage. The game is a charming retro indie called The Adventures of Elena Temple. I recorded my run with OBS, and posted it to youtube here: If anyone knows more about this process any help is appreciated.
Thread title:
Just wait a bit and you should be sent a PM with further instructions.

I renamed the thread so it can act as the general thread for this game in case that should be useful. If the run passes an initial check it'll go to verification within a few weeks.

Hey I've decided to make a discord server for anyone interested in speedrunning Elena Temple! If you want help with strats and such or just wanna talk feel free to join! https://discord.gg/7nasCBsSVs
Seems like you have found a nice little game to speedrun here! I have a few questions about the categories for this game and hope you could provide some input.

* If I understand it correctly, there are three individual missions. They're completely self-contained, so upon completing one, you don't jump to the next, right?
* I can see you have only uploaded video for one of the missions. While the other two are more simplistic, are they completely trivial or would it make sense to submit those as well? Just to have a complete set of missions.
* About the abilities you select at the beginning. I had a look at your tutorial and could understand they had to be unlocked by completing various tasks. They're not available if you just start a game from scratch, right? If that's correct, it sounds like there could be room for both a "no upgrades" category and one "with upgrades" category (often referred to as NG+). Do you agree that it makes sense to at least keep the "no upgrades" category as an open possibility, regardless if you personally are interested in it or not?
I'm defiantly going to have a no modifiers any% category. In fact, I'm working on routing such a run right now! I think the other dungeons could have categories of their own for 100% runs, but I think the any% runs, either with or without modifiers, are trivial enough that it could be easily tied. Also no the dungeons are not connected or chronological in any way. Actually all the dungeons are on one map, so any dungeon can be accessed from any other dungeon. I guess in that way there are connected lol. I bring this up because I've thought about doing a 300% category where you get all the coins from every dungeon in a single run.

Sure, makes sense to not focus on the any% runs of the other two missions if a speedrun doesn't differ much from a normal playthrough.
About 100%, you would then collect 115 coins in the orb mission instead of the 16 that were collected in this run? What about the scrolls? Are they relevant for 100%? Seems like there are less of those? And what's "rooms done"? (rooms where you collected all the collectibles?)

Do you mind explaining this again? It sounds like on one hand the missions are completely independent. But on the other hand, you could technically start e.g. the chalice mission and then go to the dungeons for the orb mission and complete it instead?

Actually the reason the other two dungeons have trivial any% runs is because you can just hop over the map. So a perfectly optimized run is possible without too much effort. (i'm also considering any% runs for these where going out of bounds to skip the level is banned) As for 100%, there are medals you get at the end of each dungeon for different things. Theres always one you get for collecting every coin, one for every scroll, and one for having a low time, but theres can also be others like having a low enough shot count. One of these requires every room to be completed, which means every pot is smashed and every collectible is collected. A 100% run would require you to get all of these medals in a single run. Trouble is the Chalice 100% isn't possible, since you need to smash every pot in every room for one medal, but you need to shoot no more than 99 times for a different one, so these are mutually exclusive. Instead I'm thinking we have a max% run for chalice so you get the maximum number of medals, which would be all of them except the shots medal.

Ok yeah its kind of confusing. Basically the dungeons are completely self contained. Everything you need for 100% is within them and getting things from other dungeons doesn't add to any counters. But... you can actually navigate to the other dungeons out of bounds with the right movement tech. You can actually also access the end of the other dungeons which lets you start in one dungeon but get the finish screen for the other. So what you're describing there is actually possible yes lol. Unfortunately this doesn't save any time, but it does allow for a ridiculous 300% type speedrun
I think it would be perfectly sensible to ignore that you can access the scenarios from each other, and also ignoring that you can get OOB if those make for redundant categories. The 100% defined as getting the most that's possible is also fine and makes sense. That way you'd have six (?) categories: one any% for each three dungeons and one 100% (max) for each dungeon. Getting 100% in all three just feels like mostly the same as the three individual 100% runs put together, right? So if you're seen those three runs, would you really also have interest in that 300% one just because it's possible?

Yeah that's fair. It probably wouldn't be any different than the runs on their own. In the discord channel I've made there's been a lot of discussion about what the categories should be, but I've mostly been focusing on trying to make sure there are as few as possible. As in, only the ones that are interesting and original. There's also been talk about making categories where modifiers aren't allowed, but then that basically doubles the category number, which is a bit much. I'm trying to find a balance and thinking about which runs make the most sense
The Adventures of Elena Temple is on sale on steam for 99 cents!!! (Its usually $5) So if you were thinking about getting into speedrunning the game now is a great time!!
I made a timing mod for the game ill be running with which shows the time at the end down to the frame (like xx'xx.xx'' instead of xx'xx''). This is so I can see how close I am to breaking the next second barrier, and the way I made the mod was by changing the function which formats the string to be sent to the GUI, so it shouldn't effect gameplay in anyway. Here's a link where you can download the mod if you'd like to use it: https://www.speedrun.com/the_adventures_of_elena_temple/resources
Do you think there's any reason for anyone to run the old non-definitive edition? If so, we'd have to separate the DE as another category/categories. Seems like a hassle if the original was really just a subset of everything that's in the DE edition. Unless there are platforms that have the original but not the DE.

To my knowledge everything in the original is in the DE, and all three platforms definitely got the new version. The original isn't even available on steam anymore. I think it was released as an update to the game. I don't think having a separate category is necessary since the runs of the original game would already be included by having no modifier runs of the original dungeon (Chalice of The Gods)
Thanks for the confirmation! In principle, we allow/encourage the fastest patch version to be run but in this case the original release seems both incomplete and you're saying it might be unavailable too... So yeah, I doubt no-one will even try to submit runs for it.
