I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
What do you think? Marathon (two-hundred line completion) as fast as possible. I understand if the whole DS thing is a no-go, but if you're interested, how do you suggest I set up the recording process?

Speed Running Joy-bringer
Hmm... never actually thought about that as being a speed run. Though it makes sense because that's what the description says.

When you get to level 14-ish, you don't even have to harddrop pieces anymore since they instantly appear.

Did you check about recording DS Runs?
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I reviewed the wiki article, though I'm not really sure on how to set up the camera in a fixed position while I play.

Even as the game approaches 20g (where the pieces just appear on the bottom from the start), you still hard drop. Waiting for it to lock takes way more time than manually locking.

Sticks attached from the DS to the Camera?
I prefer seeing a high score run. So that's more Tetris' to do.
You got a deletion wish?
Anybody beat Mission (Zelda) mode on that?  The later levels are a pain in the ass.

Me.

But thats not a speedrun besides you can go forever because it does not get faster after level 20

i'll do a sample run tonight if i have time, and see what you guys think.
I'll probably watch these when I'm bored, but other than that, even YOU have to admit that this would be kinda boring.(0_0)
"So I can do a run on game X?
Not every game is fit for speed running. A game has to have a definite end point"

It doesn't have to be "WOMG H4X" fast tetromino dropping. Going fast in Tetris takes quite a bit of skill and some planning. And if a piece was put in the wrong spot, you can quickly fix it without loosing much or any time.
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
i think the best mode suited for speed running is mission mode. it has the timers and all.

btw, puzzle #198 is fucking impossible Sad

And the Marathon mode on Tetris DS DOES have an actual end point at 200 lines cleared.

If you people were getting all excited over Tetris Attack, there's no reason why a run of Tetris DS can't be as good.
Hi! I'm andrewg!
there should be a speedrun for tetris once someone manages to max out the score.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
maxing out the score and speedrunning are two different things. a speed run would consist of as many tetrises as possible (to minimize clear animation time), while a score run would consist of as many tspin doubles as possible, or holding down soft drop while rotating (which slowly accumulates points). i don't want to do a score run. speed's much more entertaining.

You're talking to a veteran speedrunner. And this is Speed Demos Archive, so if anything, he's talking about getting 9999999999999 (or whatever) points as fast as possible, wich would basically be doing Tetrises as fast as possible, like in this video.

I agree with this.

Modern Standard Tetris is crap for high score competition. Luckily all the new modes are fun and great and stuff. And a speedrun still sounds competitive.
