Hello everyone! Tak is a somewhat older collect-a-thon game for the PS2 and Game Cube. I've been working on the run by myself for quite some time now, but as some more people have started to show interest in running the game I've decided to make a post on here about it. I recently made a explanation of the run on my stream, and that can be seen here:

I tried to go through and explain every trick that I did as I went, but if I missed anything I will try to explain it here also. I really hope this post will get more people into running this awesome game!
Thread title:
We are still trying to find new tricks and glitches, so the more people that start running the game the better.
So some crazy weird cutscene skip has been found to skip the tiki placing cutscenes. RubiksRocks123 managed to make it happen twice while streaming, here are the VODs:
http://www.twitch.tv/rubiksrocks123/c/4471807
http://www.twitch.tv/rubiksrocks123/c/4471337
the only problem is, none of us have any clue what causes this. We think it might have something to do with the placing animation of the tiki locking your y axis, but again we don't know why this would cause the cutscene to skip. Also, while rubiks and cursedgamer have managed to get this to happen multiple times on Gamecube, I haven't been able to do this skip on PS2 after 2 and a half hours of grinding. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hey so in 1-2 weeks I should be able to start streaming, and one of the first things I'll do is make some videos of the tiki skip. I've been working on it, and it works like, 70% of the time now (crashes the other 30%).
TwT It begins! The cutscene skips are real!

Tak was one of the games I loved so much as a child, but never seemed to be able to play it fully.
While watching the video of your World Record, Skelekat, the memories of the soundtrack alone came and hit me across the head. It was nice.

The game seems like something I would have fun trying to run. (To put it frank)
As the game has changed a lot since the routing, I would love to see a new one covering all the newer skips. Also, though I am not sure it is so much as a glitch or anything...but how do you bring the plant's health so low in one swing? I might be missing something very blunt, but sometimes...that is how I am.

I am a little interested in running the game. :3 One of my childhood memories.

The strategy behind the plants is in two parts. 1) when you are too far away, they throw bombs, and when you are too close, they swipe at you, but part of the plant sticks out, so by standing at the right spot, you're close enough that it is trying to swipe, but far enough that it can't hit you. 2) after not attacking the plant for a bit, it will start to taunt you. Hitting it during its taunt takes off a considerable amount of health.

So the idea is to whittle down its health by being the right distance away from it, then running around until it taunts so that the last hit is enough to kill it.

If you're interested, you should totally join in, it's a great game to run!

...Wow. I never thought of that.
I'll have to ask my sister for the game, as it was hers. (She better not have sold it. I'ed be so upset!) But while I wait to go over her house (Thanksgiving) I'll hook up my Gamecube back to my TV and get ready for it.
Thank-you for telling me about the plants fight, too. I never would have thought to attack it while it taunts.

now I just need a way to record my TV...
I suppose I should update this thread with the current WR, I probably wont be improving it any time soon because I'm too busy to stream right now.
There were a few mistakes in it, but it's a good showcase of the current route.

Hey guys, another good way of getting the game out there is going to speedrun.com and making a leaderboard for the game there. The site is becoming more and more visited and people like to just look around and maybe even search for the Tak games. Sure there might not be a lot of runners but it would still be a great place to keep track of everyone's times and maybe attract new runners.
So it's been a while since I updated this thread, here's a link to the route explanation for the current route:

Hopefully this will help anybody else thinking of running this game.

That's great! Glad you went and did something like this. I'll have to check it out myself sometime.
