i hate to break it to you but all dechecking that box does is enable ip-based sessions ... which means you will be logged out the next time your ip address changes. cookie issues are normal though so glad you got it worked out somehow.
Jolly good show!
I'm liking this so far. Looks nice and has awsm features.

Excellent work, Nate! Thank you very much! Smiley

glad people seem to be liking the new forum so far. i'll be traveling for the next few hours but when i get home i'll be on pretty much all day to fix any problems people are having (first order of business is making the userlist look right when there are tons of users online).
really appreciate the feedback, everyone.

When I first came here and saw the new layout, I thought I was having a bad acid trip, which is strange, because I'm not even on acid.
a bad trip?? ;-[
Looks great guys. Thanks for the non-dark skins!
This is a pleasant surprise. =]
Just noticed that I'm missing some private messages (you mentioned this before the changeover, it's no big deal) and that on some of them, there are multiple repeat posts, like 20 or so repeats. Tongue
you should be able to find, among those, "shadows" of the pms where you can see what you sent or received. the reason there are duplicates is that you probably sent the same pm to more than one person or that person replied more than once with the same text there. i tried to get rid of those but i wanted to avoid accidentally deleting them so i had to be a little conservative. let me know if you can't find something specific and i'll see if i can figure out what happened. thanks.
Is there a way to enter a board and have it show only the threads with new posts since the users last visit?

1-Up!
The new forum is great.

Great job nate and arkarian!

try this:
http://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/unread/threads.html

it's for all boards currently but that may change in the future. the boards are grouped at least. one thing to keep in mind is that i didn't save which threads were marked unread before the conversion so there may not be a lot in there right now.

Boards are looking great so far, but as always a couple of points:
- This IP-session thingy is causing problems for me to. Having it ticked logs me out every two pages or so. Unticking it solves the problems, though I am unsure of the implications. Using Firefox 3.6.8.
- Read threads disappearing from the unread page is IMHO a bad thing. If I wanted to access them again later, I would have to find them manually. I rather like the approach of other boards. Mark them as read but keep them in the unread list. Sort them if you wish. A section with unread and a section with read. Would be much better.
- As mentioned before, the facebook, etc stuff in the bottom bar is of no use to me, so removing it and perhaps replacing it with something else in the future might be nice.
welcome to the machine

- Open unread in threads is a cool feature. Only problem is that it will probably open too many threads you don't want to look at. So perhaps if there was a feature in the unread list that clicking on a thread opens it in a new tab?

Middle-click on the link.

Looking good so far... the bottom and top bars have an issue keeping up when scrolling fast using Opera 10.70 (beta) on an Acer Timeline (1.4 GHz Solo core)...

this baffles me. unticking it should make it worse if anything. whatever works i guess ...

this is a good point. if i'm right this would manifest itself as a user preference - "don't automatically reload unread view."

it really amazes me how many people are worried about this breaking their computer or whatever. it's been live for over a year now on other forums and it's never broken anyone's computer. it's capped at 10 so if you're shocked by it you can just close ten threads and then be careful not to hit it again. there's no way to force a link to open in a new tab but you can just middle-click or ctrl-click on it or whatever it is and that will do it.

it's in the title bar just above it (or maybe below in depending on the browser ...).

yeah, we're working on this.

yep, this is known. not a lot i can do about it since that's the browser trying to draw things and the hardware not keeping up. surprised opera is that slow though. makes me wonder if chrome would be any faster on the same hardware.

Ah, that kinda works, but it opens in a background tab. I'd like to see the option to open in a foreground-tab too. Hmmm. I do wonder if there's an extension in firefox that allows this...

It's not worry; it's comfort.
Though I suppose it should be a little better with FF4 since it won't block while loading the threads in the background. Also, there's an issue with browser memory. The more threads you open, the more leaks. Happens to a lot of people, and I'm not immune to this effect.
firefox settings -> tabs -> when i open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately
I'll have to try that. Once again, though, you've done a really good work on the board. It feels much more modern that other giants such as vBulletin.

This is pretty awesome.

Hi,
lol, i just saw the "chat" feature where you see posts as they  are posted.
Anyway i like the upper bar where you can  quickly acces some forum parts.
One thing i dont like is the icons for unread, sticky etc....they are too small and you cant relly tell the difference between the unread (or the other?) and sticky ones.

If i may ask, is there a way to display the forum so that it doesnt take the whole window width ? I use firefox with lots of tabs and firefox is always fullsize window, but with a large screen its very unpleasant to read long text. In fact its not good to read text that take all the screen width, its not good for the eye and you read a lot slower.
Jolly good show!
One thing I noticed. Clicking on this thread (or any other for that matter) from the forum index does not take me to the first new post as it did with the old software. Nothing big, but it is kinda inconvenient...

Click the icon that appears to the right of the thread title and it'll take you to the most recent post. Clicking the thread title will take you to the first post of the thread.

So far so good, I am really liking this. The usability is soooo much better, and it looks good too.
