after looking through the demo list and searching the forum, i
only found one mentioning of Super Punchout.

I resently beat the game with all rankings at #1 and I am pretty sure this I can do a lot faster than i did in my first time around.

one possible goal could be doing the 4 classes in one run and by doing so getting all #1 ranks in the progress. so to speak a single segment run. I am pretty sure there is no timer for this in the game itself.

other goal would be best times for the single fighters the gamer faces and the sum of those fights. each fight is timed. also you can select each fight directly if you beat all the classes.

please note that I am a novice at speed runs. this would be my first speed run. also the version of SPO I have at home is a PAL version, I am not sure if that is a problem timing/recording wise.

greetings

Your PAL SNES will probably play the game at 5/6th the speed of the NTSC version because PAL TVs are 50Hz as opposed to 60Hz, but it would still be accepted as a run, just timed seperately.

Go IM Radix or something.

This is one of the games where the emulator people are punching their heads off.  One person said there was a sub-6 second Aran Ryan run done on the SNES and the Emulator boys can't seem to copy that.

I would suggest watching the emulated run right?  WRONG! There's just too much luck abuse.  so you'll have to use general knowledge and strategy.

Wish I was in that game [o o]
i like to watch.

i would love to see this.
Take This! Ultra Frisbee-Disk Attack!
A tough game to speedrun because you'd have to memorize the exact moves of every single person and then figure out which punch is best used in countering each one of their punches to be the fastest. It could be done though if you memorize each fighter's pattern. I currently own the game but would probably not be able to do a run on it unless I got really really good at the game in a short amount of time. Good luck to you on your run.

Getting the wind knocked-out of Piston Hurricane versus Nick Bruiser shows how difficult this will be.

Hurricane is predictable and quick.  Bruiser requires an exact counter-punch to initiate the sequence.  If you miss the sequence and/or the critical hit on any one opponent, does that not invalidate the whole run?

I hate to say it but this is an Olympian feat of emulating the emulator run.  To the victor go the spoils.

Damn right about that. Watching that vid, he was able to get them winded within 5 seconds and then knocking them out in every fight about less than 15 seconds. That would be awesome to see that sub-6 second Aran Ryan fight.

Just re-bought the game for the sake of running it.  I have ran the first 4 guys already and they are tas-speed.

I'll go with individual segments for now, but I do plan on doing a single-segment sometimes. Keep in mind that a single-segment is going to be MUCH slower, maybe 1-2 minutes if you're not lucky.

Gabby Jay: No problem here
Bear Hugger: No problem again
Piston Hurricane: A joke
Bad Bull:`a joke
...
this is where things get a bit more complicated!

Bob Charley: Sometimes, he likes to move and EVEN block your hits, this can screw up the "winding process" majorly . Not a problem in individual because you can reset, but in single-segment you can't.

Dragon Chan: Easy to wind down, but after you knock him off, he comes back with one of two moves. Dragon kick or Dragon heal. If he dragon kicks, you lose 5-6 seconds. If he heals, you CAN knock him off but it takes godly reflexes. Odds this happen in a single segment are really low

Mad Muscle: Same as dragon chan, but not as dramatic. He sometimes block :/

Mister Sandman, he sometimes block but he's pretty easy

Aran Ryan: He likes to move but it's not as problematic as Bob Charley

Heike Kagero: Easy

Mad Clown: If you don't miss your punches, pretty easy

Macho Man: Pretty easy, actually.

Actually, the rest is pretty do-able up to Nick Bruiser, then it becomes a PAIN in the ...

You have to counter all his punches, the problem is they are semi random. (left left right right, but you never know if it's going to be up or down. You have to get them all and it takes godly reflexes. Once you wind him down, and knock him off, you have to uppercut him 3 times. The first 2 always connect, the third one? IT DEPENDS. Took me around 200 tries back in the days to get his special KO motion. It's not something you try in a single segment.

Individual stages will be done by the end of the week, though.

Sounds good, Marco.

With Nick Bruiser I wouldn't hold it against you if it didn't work out in a single-segment.  It took me forever in Time Attack as well to get the sequence right.  In fact, I may have lost that Nintendo Power that had all the sequences...

I'm starting to dislike the randomness of some fights :p

I downloaded the TAS, as an alternate way of doings things. With it, I realized my mr. sandman fight could be improved by at least 2 seconds. I was able to duplicate the entire fight, then comes the last uppercut that's supposed to bring him down. Nope, still 1% life left.

Is there a windowed damage range for counter-hits? What I mean is, if you PERFECTLY counter-hit, does it dish out more damage? I'm still confused as to why it didn't go down. (tas time is 13.13, mine is 13.90, had to dish out another uppercut :/

I'm also writing myself a little guide to single-segment this.

IE: What to do incase the opponent randomly blocks a punch during the dizzy combo. I think I'm going to have some fun with this run ^^

edit: Scratch that, just got 13.41 on sandman.
