Second, is the 61 star route a good route to go with, or should I work on another one (with help if someone is willing)

Yes, I think the segmented 61-star route is good for single-segment as well.  I'm trying to remember if the route had anything designed specifically for segmented runs, but I can't think of anything.  (I know at least one of my old routes did have something like that, though... manipulating comet appearances, mainly.)

About using a second player, I'd be interested to see if you can find some new shortcuts!  One thought off the top of my head: you could try and see if you can jump directly to the Starshroom in Space Junk star 1 (without freeing the Toads and watching the cutscene).
If you can find a significant shortcut in a level that's not in the route, then I might be able to help with tweaking the route if you like.

Also, I'm (really) working on my segmented run, but I have a question related to the video.  So far my run segments have been done in 4:3 (non-wide) screen resolution, but while playing Galaxy 2 I realized that recording in 16:9 (wide) is not a problem.  Could I (or should I) switch to 16:9 mid-run because it looks better?

There are a couple of minor Galaxy-specific considerations related to widescreen, since the game area covered by the screen actually becomes wider.  I don't think they will amount to much, but just to give all the information:

(1) The width of my star bit range (both for collecting and shooting star bits) will become wider in widescreen.  Honestly though, I don't see this being a real issue - I'm not hard pressed for star bits in this run, and there's not a lot of star bit shooting.

(2) Pull stars *might* become easier to grab in a couple of places if the screen is wider, but I'm not sure on that.  I think the limitation on grabbing pull stars tends to be Luigi's distance from pull star, not whether the pull star is on-screen or not.

(3) Some moving elements of levels (obstacles, enemies, etc.) will only move when they are onscreen or nearly onscreen.  This fact is connected to my strategy in Drip Drop Galaxy (panning the camera toward or away from the eels so I can reach them quicker), so I did some testing there.  I'm not 100% positive, but the eels seemed to stop near the side of the screen as easily in 4:3 and 16:9 - and of course the side of the screen is situated differently, so the strategy might have to change a bit (for better or worse, I don't know).
There may be other levels where widescreen changes the strategy, but I can't think of any right now.

Overall, I think sticking with 4:3 or changing to 16:9 will be a style choice and won't have a significant time impact in such a long speedrun.  I think I'll take the issue to Tech Support.

Dude, seriously, how can not know about this topic?

Hmm... true, I could've stood to use the forum search.  Well, in that case, I'll think about it and just pick what I like better.

Also, to Mr. Piggy about the 100% route: before clearing The Fate of the Universe, non-Terrace comets should be odd-numbered stars (you have them all as even-numbered).  Only Terrace comets will be even-numbered.  (In the wiki page, I said non-Terrace comets will appear *after* even-numbered stars, which means the comets themselves will be odd-numbered.)
Though, I have no idea what happens to the comets after clearing The Fate of the Universe; I haven't looked at that part of the game in a while.  Anyway, your route looks fine other than those comets.

Speaking of which, the SMG1 wiki page is huge, wow... maybe it could do with a split?

Segment 9

Well, here's something!  I won't pretend to be really excited with the run, though, because to me it doesn't feel quite as shiny as some of the other segments.  Still, it seems about as good as I'd expect from a long segment.
Of course, I know SDA has some more experience with Galaxy after SMG2, so don't be afraid to be picky. Smiley  I had improved my strategies some in the past day or two, which made this segment a bit more manageable than it first seemed.
General Kong - Bullets and Bananas
Definitely looks good yoshifan.  The 'star get' at the end of hot and cold collide just before the freeze flower ran out was nice.

Glad to see the progress.

SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
I'm sure that Yoshifan was going to mention this but since it is late (at the time he posted the 10th segment) I'll go ahead and do it for him...

Segment 10

I'll leave Yoshifan to tell the details if he wants...

Segment 10

Yeah. >_>

Well, I really like how this segment turned out!  I think the method to get star chip 3 in Buoy Base is new, and the Matter Splatter Mansion strategy (mentioned earlier) is one of the best strategies I've ever found.  The segment took only 1 hour of recording attempts, which is awesome (though by now I've put loads of practice into Buoy Base 1 and especially Matter Splatter).

Segment 11 is another three-star segment, and hopefully it won't take very long to do.  I hope to get as far into the remaining 6-star segments as I can within the next month.
Awesome! One step closer to a published run!
Keep up the EXTREMELY GOOD WORK! ^_^

looking good as always. keep up the great work.
I just vomited excitement. Congratulations.

Segment 11

I admit, I procrastinated a little on this one due to having to learn Sling Pod.  I think it turned out rather well though (though it always feels like that level can be improved).  And I only burned 6-7 good segment attempts on Sling Pod, so that wasn't too bad after all.
The segment's kind of boring besides Sling Pod, but it gets the job done!

Segment 12 is the second Bedroom segment, so 6 stars.  It won't take another five months though - I'm still on "summer" break for another three weeks.
General Kong - Bullets and Bananas
Fantastic as always yoshifan.  Getting really close, keep it up.  thumbsup

keep them coming. always a joy to watch
Segment 12, Part 1
Segment 12, Part 2

After uploading this, I heard that the YT upload limit got changed to 15:30.  Is that true? >_>;

Anyway, after enough practice, this was not as hard as expected - it definitely felt more manageable than Segment 9.  But my goal was to put the more manageable Bedroom stars in the same segment as Bowser, so I guess it worked!

Now for the Engine Room - definitely nearing the end now!  Unfortunately, the next segment is going to take a while (most likely until December).  I've got school starting in a few days, and I will probably want to play around with all 12 Engine Room stars a bit so I can decide how to split them up.
From what I know, the official limit is 15 minutes with some marginal, I suspect.
Great as always. Looking forward for more, whenever that may be. Take your time!

I tested it a few months ago and it seemed to be exactly 15 minutes; 15:01 was too long.
I have a lot of videos that are 15:01 or more. So that's not the case now, at least.
SEGA Junkie
I somehow missed segment 11 so I just watched them both. You are a cruel man for making us wait this long for the next segment. Sad
It's not like I want it to be December, I'm just predicting the ETA based on previous events.  But if that was a compliment, thanks? >_>

I know the YT limit became 15:00 on the dot at one point (around the time of my Segment 9) - I suppose it got changed again then.
General Kong - Bullets and Bananas
You continue to impress yoshifan.  Good, good stuff.  Getting closer, can't wait to see you finish.  Smiley
SMG - Treasure of the Pyramid (1:18.5) (Luigi) (WR)
GWAHAHAHAHA!
Super Mario Galaxy Races - Loopdeswoop - 50.75

Still need more practice if I want sub 50, but this went well.
I've got 36 seconds on purple coin spacewalk... is that good?
