They are targeting 2-2.5 hours according to the strategy wiki. So somewhere along there should be a good guess.

Well, Miles' single-segment run was 3:00, and it would've been about 2:55-2:56 instead if he had played as Luigi instead (lack of Star Festival sequence). Despite the amount of time I spent route planning, I don't really think my different star route will save that much time (possibly 1 minute, I'd highly doubt 2 minutes), and there's a lot of time in between stars, so I doubt the time will go as low as 2:30. I think 2:40 would look really good already; that would be 15 seconds saved per star with more tricks and better execution through segmenting. Miles' run does have its mistakes (being an SS), but overall I think he doesn't lose that much time.

Anyway, sorry for inactivity, it seems I've gotten pretty busy at school again. Hopefully I'll be able to resume segment 9 soon.

Well, I think you could give yourself a bit more credit... >_> but anyway, by not 'that much', I was mostly referring to the prospect of sub-2.5 hours (as suggested by the strategy wiki). I still think saving 25 seconds per star (when the average star is like 1m30s) is stretching it.

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.

Remember that his run did have a number of deaths, though. I think it was around 10. Subtract the time lost from those and your average star time doesn't need to improve on Miles' quite as much.

Okay, I had some time and decided to re-work my route so that it will...erm...work. I haven't gotten enough time to actually test it out, but I moved some levels around and all the comets should be in proper order. I'd also like to say that I'm seriously thinking of getting back to starting this run. I'd really like to do it SS too if I get enough time to really practice all the levels. K, well this is a SS 100% route. The whole route was made off the top of my head, so there's definitely gonna be some flaws in it. It will be a while before I get to test out the route because I wanna finish SMG2, so if anyone wants to get the ball rolling and play through the route for me, that'd be great. If not, I'll play through it once I finish SMG2. I'd really like to move the Trial Galaxies to be earlier in the route because they cause me grief...Maybe they won't once I practice some more...

K, well this is a SS 100% route. The whole route was made off the top of my head, so there's definitely gonna be some flaws in it. It will be a while before I get to test out the route because I wanna finish SMG2, so if anyone wants to get the ball rolling and play through the route for me, that'd be great. If not, I'll play through it once I finish SMG2. I'd really like to move the Trial Galaxies to be earlier in the route because they cause me grief...Maybe they won't once I practice some more...

Someone mentioned the sling pull galaxy earlier for star-bit gathering. As for how many are needed to finish, I'm not sure, I haven't played the game in a while...Still finishing SMG2. At the rate I'm going, it'll be a long time before I get back to this project.

6370 starbits and i think sling pod galaxy is the best way to collect starbits.

I'm actually returning to this run quite soon - just wanted to finish a couple of levels I had in mind in SMG2. I'm keeping an eye on the time, though, since I do want to finish the hard segments (at least most of them) when I'm still on summer break (which lasts until mid/late September).

Ah, and I'll look at that 100% route in more detail later.

Hey guys, I'm new here and I'm going to speed run a single segment any% and then a 100% run.

I'm starting work on the single segment one now, and hope to be ready to record soon. This is probably a lofty goal, but I'm unemployed, and have a lot of time =). My first question about the run is, will it be permissible to have a second player play the game with me to collect starbits and help in other ways? For example, making boulders crash into each other both helps with speed, and starbit count.

Second, is the 61 star route a good route to go with, or should I work on another one (with help if someone is willing)

Finally, can I use Luigi, or would Mario be the preferred character?

1. You could use a second player, but it would be separate category and most people here would probably prefer to see a single player run (myself included), but hey, any Mario Galaxy run is definitely welcome if you would rather do co-op.

2. The 61 star route is good, feel free.

3. Go with Luigi if you'd like. The any% segmented run in progress is using Luigi.

I'd actually prefer a two player run because it has a special midair jump that isn't single player.

It really depends on exactly how much time the two-player run would potentially save. I don't think anyone has fully explored all the ways the jump-boost could be used to speed things up. If it ends up creating significant route changes (and faster times), then I'd definitely be interested in seeing a run in that category.
