Very awesome segment! Shocked

By the way, do you know if the jump on Bee Luigi/Mario takes flight is possible with Mario? I haven't gotten around to trying it with Mario, & I've only seen vids of it done with Luigi. I can't check any of the vids on the wiki either because the damn advertisement is blocking it and you can't cancel out the add. Angry
General Kong - Bullets and Bananas
Simply Incredible Yoshifan.  I still play this sometimes and the breaks you did are awesome.  Glad to see somebody really taking this game to school.  Don't stop.  Smiley
Wow, thanks everyone. Smiley  It may take a while, but I definitely feel like taking this run to the end.

UCpro: I go to the University of California, San Diego.  There's a quarter system here instead of a semester system, and the summer quarter goes from June to September.  So that's basically my summer break if I'm not taking summer classes.

Mr. Piggy: I don't know if Mario can get across the trees with just a single jump, though he probably can with better aim.  I do know Mario can get across with a double jump; Paraxade demonstrated this in his video.  Greenalink also has a wall-jump method to get across, though I haven't had much luck with it myself.

Yeah I've seen Greenalink's vid, thanks for the Mario one. Smiley
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Oh baby have I been waiting for this.

Nothing I can add that hasn't been said other than I owe you several sexual favors for finally getting this game out of speed run hell.
Segment 3 practice is going fine so far.  I have a question, though: on Big Bad Bugaboom, does anyone know of a way to get the third stomp on the boss before he turns to the side?  I've tried the last hit with and without the Bee form, but it seems like I always have to wait until he stops turning to the side for the first time.  It's just a matter of about 3 seconds, but I figured I might ask anyway.

I don't actually own the game, I just rented it, so this is just a guess, but...

Can you climb the flower thing without being a bee?  if so you might try a homing stomp

Or you could maybe get hurt while in midair to lose the bee power, and then use the homing stomp.  Maybe graze the top of the bug to lose bee, then homing stomp.  Losing hp won't be flashy, but it may save time.

I'm not even sure if the homing stomp will work; it's just an idea

Well, problem solved. Smiley

You can climb the flower without being a bee, but it's faster to not use the flower.  What I did was ditch bee form during hit 2 by stepping into the water (without losing time), then for hit 3, I quickly went to the right and started a triple jump.  At the height of my triple jump, I was able to graze the top of the bug while performing the beginning of a homing stomp, thus hitting it immediately.

This was actually what I was trying last time, more or less... so I guess it just takes some trying to get down.  Though, after I started sticking to a specific strategy, I was able to get a good fight 4 times in a row at one point.

Edit: Oh, also, about this:

Are you going to the wikia page?  The one we've been updating lately is the SDA strategy wiki page.

I have that page that your talking about but I was looking at this page.

Segment 3: Part 1, Part 2

Trouble on the Tower - 0:52, Big Bad Bugaboom - 1:24, Surfing 101 - 2:01, Painting the Planet Yellow - 0:24, Megaleg's Moon - 1:27.

That was slightly harder than I expected (again), but here it is.  One day before school starts for me. >_>  That means I will slow down from here, but I won't have to stop completely.

Also, I've started to pay attention to two things about the "You increased your star bit count" message box.
- If you press A to stop the tallying early, then you have to wait an extra half second or so before the message box starts to fade.  However, it fades immediately if you press A after the tallying finishes.  Thus, unless you got a lot of star bits, it's usually a bit faster to not interrupt the tallying.
- Getting no star bits will make the message box not appear at all.  I will consider picking a few levels to do this on, as I just demonstrated on Loopdeeloop in segment 3.  For the most part, though, I'm going to wait until later in the run when I'm sure I have enough star bits for Hungry Luma stars, then I'll utilize this a little more.  (Note: if no other post-star message boxes appear, then avoiding the star bit message box will not save time.  The game will wait a set amount of time before showing the save prompt.)

Segment 4 plan: Pull Star Path, Kamella's Airship Attack, Tarantox's Tangled Web, and Rolling in the Clouds.  The Kamella fight is definitely my biggest concern at this point, since I'm pretty sure you can get lucky and have Kamella produce a shell one shot earlier than usual.  Guess I'll just have to see what's doable there.

Very nice find there. Also I thought you had an awesome BigBadBugaboom fight.... & is Luigi also faster than Mario while raysurfing? I never really noticed it before, but it seems like Luigi surfs a lot faster than Mario for some reason...

Hey! I'm s'posed to be incognito!

Is that link I posted earlier even working for anyone?
Luigi and Mario are the same for ray surfing, as far as I know.  Miles did a 55.61 run as Mario, and the best record I've heard of is 55.51.  And thanks about the Bugaboom fight, I'm kind of proud of it. Smiley

Also, if you're referring to the "file:///" line you posted, that's not a link to a page on the web - that's the location of a file on your computer.  So it doesn't work for us.  A web link would start with "http://".

Yeah I figured it didn't work...Well I can't find the normal url for the page I was on, but it's basically the exact same as this page: http://speeddemosarchive.com/kb/Super_Mario_Galaxy/Star_Times
except the page I was originally trying to link to was a white page with a bunch of ads that blocked half the screen.
The run is looking awesome sofar! Keep it up :).

I tried a third disc in the DVR and it worked, it let me record on it, but when I put the disc in my computer, my computer said it was a blank disc. I don't know if there's something wrong with the computer, the disc, or the DVR. I think it's my computer, since it's really old and I don't think the disc drive or whatever it's called is working properly, and plus whenever I eject the "blank disc," it leaves a small scratch on it.

So if it is the computer, I'm gonna have to wait a while to get a new computer. Maybe I'll get a new one for christmas, so until then, I won't be doing anything with this run.
Just call me the cynicism machine
It sounds like you didn't finalize the DVD in your recorder.  If you don't do that, only the recorder can read the data, while other players won't recognize it.
In the infinite
Well I've found where you finalize the disc on the DVR menu, but it won't let me do it. Is it because I'm using a DVD+RW disc? Or is it because I need the disc to be full before I finalize it? Or something else?
There really should be no need to finalize an RW disc... if you finalize it, you would not be able to write more data to it without formatting it first.
Do you really need to put this disc in the computer?
In the infinite
Well yeah I need to put it in the computer so I can upload it for a quality check, and I also need to get it into the computer so I can edit out mistakes and other things like that. I don't really want to mail the discs either.

Also, I just tried to put the disc in the computer again, and the disc stayed in it for a little bit, but the then the computer just spit it out, leaving an even bigger scratch on it.
Your computer's disc drive is scratching your discs?  Ouch... well, hope that getting a new computer goes well.

So about the Kamella fight, at first I thought I might have some idea of how to slightly control the randomness, but after more trying it didn't seem to work out.  So unless someone has better ideas, I guess I'm stuck with treating the fight as random.  I very rarely get an early shell shot for hits 1 and 2, so I'm not going to hope for that.  But I think I'm going for an earlier shell shot for hit 3, since that happens almost half the time from what I can tell.

By the way, adding an extra segment here would take at least 16 seconds by my count (to get back to the Fountain), so that wouldn't be worth it.
Not sure if it's known (didn't see it mentioned on the wiki or a forum search), but you can grab the shells Kamella spawns while they still appear as green magic by spinning. It might be risky though...

Makes it fun during the fight to have her wave her scepter and all of a sudden mario/luigi's thrown a shell at her.

Or is this not mentioned because it's assumed to be common knowledge?
In the infinite
I didn't find out about that until my second play-through, but yeah I found it a little risky. Sometimes when you spin, Mario will either pick it up or get hit by it. I'm not sure if it's just random or timing. Undecided
You mean you spin to pick up the shell right after she shoots the green shot?  Yeah, I'm using that method.  It didn't come to mind when I was writing the wiki entry, but I guess I can add it.
