I love YaBB 1G - SP1!

I'm actually kind of surprised that their time was 21:XX; I thought they'd easily get under 20 minutes.

Well that's because he didn't do such a good job, if you look at the topic where the movie was being discussed, you'll see that everyone is talking about how it could have been optimized much more, but they decided to publish it anyway. Hopefully someone will make a better version.

Not going to school today

Yeah, the 4-2 whale hopping took a long time and was one of the more frustrating levels to learn, but I thought it looked pretty cool. That's what's so interesting to me about the old school platformers: they look so good. All the old Mario games are just fun to watch, because you know someone spent a lot of hours learning exactly when and how high to jump (at least I did). 4-2 was one of the most frustrating levels to learn, but it was also the most satisfying to perfect. That one double jump in that level isn't really necessary, but I like that glitch, so I tried to incorporate it into the run whenever possible (2 in 1-1, 1 in 1-3, 1 in 4-2, 1 in 5-3).

Great run tmont! It was really nice to see someone beat every level in an impressive manner. I don't know the fastest way on 3-2, but I do know that the Princess can jump over large gaps in the underground. You can skip parts of the level this way, but I don't remember the level well enough to say if it is faster than what you did.

Thanks! Hmmm... I never even really considered traversing the underground that way; as soon as I found out you could bypass everything by taking the ceiling shortcut, that was always the way I did it. I'll have to check that out...

Edit: Checked it out. That's interesting. I didn't time anything, but I would imagine you save around 5 seconds. You probably lose about 2-3 seconds since Princess runs slower than Toad, but by not going as far to the left above ground, you save probably 2 seconds. Then, after doing the ladder jump, you probably save another 2-3 seconds by not having to run as far to the left. But then you might lose a few seconds because Princess won't be able to defeat Birdo as quickly. I honestly never thought of beating the level like that. Embarrassing. Again. Oh well. I will be redoing this run (unless someone beats me) soon (as in less than a year), and in this run, I won't suck once I hit world 6, I won't die, and it won't look like someone peed all over the tape. But that won't be for awhile.
