That sux Andrew. Honestly if it feels like a chore and your not getting any enjoyment out of it then I agree you should not be playing. Hopefully you will get your passion for speedrunning back soon.
Couldnt have been. We only had 1 controller plugged in. So we both got kinda in shock when it happend.
Yeah, I know I pulled out frezy's controller and put in mine so no second controller... All I can think of is that the firecart and me holding a shy-guy does the total opposite thing. And I was gonna do that tribute to you Andrew, getting hit after I throw the shy-guy!
Gratz on the run though, that death was really a wince. Luigi looks like a pain to control too, is he really faster then Toad? One of the levels it looked like his jump height/distance wasn't an advantage, but I know next to nothing about this game.
I'm pretty sure Weegee is needed to skip the quicksand you normally need to sink into and jump through to get to 6-3's backdoor. Toad probably can't jump high enough to get the boost needed from the thrown shyguy (the arc would be much lower if the MacGyvered platform were thrown from Toad's maximum height, so reaching the plateau is a no-go); and Peach's aerial velocity and/or throwing velocity probably wouldn't be enough to land on the shyguy in midair (by the time Peach reaches the wall, the shy guy will already have landed on the ground, which is bad).
The standard method for skipping the bulk of 6-3 takes something in the neighborhood of 15-20 secs. longer, if I had to "guesstimate", so this trick is a necessity in a record-breaking run.
Ahh I wasn't sure, it's a shame though, he just seems to go so slow compared to Toad, thanks though, there were quite a few jumps that looked crazy. The last time I played this game I believe I couldn't pass 1-2 because I didn't know about the carpet
Andrew, I was absolutely floored by 6-3...you achieved what I had imagined in my head for years but could never pull off. Also, your ladder jumps are amazing as always. However, your 1-2 method is still about a second slower than the Luigi-key method. Theoretically it could be faster if you were able to get an earlier Birdo egg, but it doesn't seem feasible.
This really wasn't a true attempt in some ways. It was more or less a practice session honestly. I still have a few more optimizations to test out in nearly every stage.
Cak, are you considering doing a run with glitches, or not? This is the same thing that happened with SMB1 and my competitors. Basically, I just figured that glitchless runs slow me down and really just ruin my potential for runs. In my mind, using glitches does not "cheapen" the run to any extent. But I can understand if you feel otherwise.
Nah, I wouldn't use glitches, because there's extra work involved and TG doesn't allow them anyway. Nothing to do with the validity of your run...a run with glitches is just as impressive imo.
Ah, ok. I was just a bit puzzled. I know you have the skills to get some more awesome runs for Mario 2. I mean, currently, your best time is better than my runs. That's to say, you've achieved a much more optimized time (only 5-6 seconds off perfect from what you were trying for).
The thing about TG is that I just feel like it's lost what it originally was, and is trying to be something it can't. SDA has a better verification process in general than TG does. I used to be a big fan of TG, but I've decided I can't submit speedruns to them any longer.
Really, I think the only thing TG is suited for now is just classic arcade gaming scores.
I respect your preferences, but I think you should destroy my runs if you can. haha
Q: Cak Did you have any video about your best run? Youtube or somewhere else?. Its might awesome run without any glitch used. But i never are see it.
Andrew are making nice progress. I am little sad you going die with Tryclydes and ruin your awesome run attempt:(. Thats not fun. Keep going, i´ll know you will make your goal time. 8:45 might just awesome final time. I think its are quite close your SMB run then.
