It's going to be my first time speed running a game and I just want to know what would you consider the best option would be to understand the core fundamentals to speed running, in the future I would like to speed run other 2d/3d platformers but I would also love to give the new zelda game coming to wii u a run for it's rupees when that comes out, I understand that the main answer will be "play what you enjoy the most" but I love both games just as equally and I'm the kind of gamer that can keep playing the same game forever if I attach my own goal or challenge I'm trying to pursue.

Just a few things to note weekdays I have roughly about 4 hours game time to practice and weekends I got all the time in the world for attempting some runs.

Thanks for future input
Thread title:
Vanilla H is mai waifu
mario 64
Super Mario Brothers 3

It got decent physics and you don't have to ultra glitch the game to do a good time. It comes down to perfecting your skills and knowing perfectly the level's content. The downside is that if you are aiming for a WR, there is not a lot of room for improvement as the current WR holder did it so perfectly and got almost a perfect RNG.
don't get me wrong those 2 are decent options but I put my title as it is for a reason, I'm not looking to buy anymore stuff I don't have hence why I'm asking about the 2 games I own (I used to own those games in the past but because of my parents divorce I don't have my own snes or n64 anymore)
HELLO!
Mario 3d world has less cutscene blah blah blah run it. Smiley
Wake up and be awesome
Also Wind Waker is really long, over 4 hours. Just keep that in mind
HELLO!
Oh I'd be remiss if I didn't say. If you have or can get ahold of Super Luigi U, run *it*. It's designed from the ground up for speedrunning.
I guess from this I'll start off with super mario 3d world and see where that takes me Smiley Also pres though I don't currently have  super luigi u i'll check it out at some point thanks for the help.
I would go with 3D World because if I remember correctly, it's more a more straight-forward game than WWHD.
Wake up and be awesome
Granted I've never actually played either game, but from just watching runs, WW has a bunch of really difficult tricks. I know the HD version sounds easier, but is still really difficult
