Willing to teach you the impossible
Quote from EvilJogga:
You could have saved time on one of the machine gun turrets popping out of the ground by not ducking to dodge, but jumping and shooting diagonally downwards.

I have tried this,it does not die fast enough and end hitting it even if trying to jump over it. ducking is the best way here.

Quote from EvilJogga:
Also: SLOPE JUMPING! You can easily see how the guys behind you come closer when you walk and keep their distance once you jump. Always jump on slopes.

I have not tested this, but here is my logic... how does jumping "up" help you move to the "right" faster? (im not trying to be a smartass here, if you have a legit answer, Ill take it)

Quote from EvilJogga:
The bossfight in stage 3 also needs improvement. But besides that and the slowdown on that artillery cannon it looks pretty good.

I agree that this boss here needs just a touch of work. Im working on timing my jumps to force the bullets in spacific directions. and yes... i had some bad luck with that cannon in this run.

Thanks for the feed back. ALL comments and insults are welcome:)

I think the deal is that in the game the speed that the character runs when going uphill or downhill is slower than the normal running speed. But the character's horizontal movement while jumping is the same as his horizontal movement when not on a slope. Therefore you can get around the decrease in speed on a hill by jumping.

I know it is doable and it saves time. So it is the best way Tongue
But if you can't do it, ducking is better than dying. You should practice it though, at least if you want to submit a run. Both, the PAL and the NTSC run, aren't easy to beat.

And I've given a lot of feedback here and will do it again. There's not too many games I can do that Cheesy

ok, here is a rough run, IT NEEDS WORK STILL. I am posting this just as an update so yall know where i am in my run.

The run can be found here http://www.livestream.com/heidmanjr
look at the on demand under the player.

EDIT: dont know what happened, but the vid is super long... the run starts at the 23ish minute. Sorry, im trying to fix it now

Edit: fixed, im still learning how to use this thing, sorry again

Notes:............I am listening to my pandora station while playing, hope you enjoy the music Smiley

First let me say that i am now usinga controler, my shooting speed has improved Smiley Smiley I keep shooting  to keep my fingers going, i dont want them to stop really

Stage 1: had to turn for  the 2 guys on the 3rd ramp, they would have messed up my gernade jump. other than that, the stage was fairly smooth, could have had some better luck with random spawns...

Stage 2: this stage is nearly perfect, some random spawns can really mess with me though... Boss could have been killed just a tad faster, i can get him befor he starts moving up

Stage 3: I jumped early so i had to dodge bullets. DAMN LAZER,  i hate that thing. Died in the water, but it should not have happened... finger fumble Sad Mini boss was awsome, and the boss was slightly slow but over all very well  done.

Stage 4: OMG, i rarely die with the first set of bubbles, the second set my finger slipped and i stoped shooting up. One missed jump... Other than that this was very good, boss needs just a lil more work though IMO

Stage 5: DAMN near perfect, 1 missed jump. I still need to work on the jump times a bit. Rocks went perfect. Boss needs a touch of work.

Stage 6: Awful luck with the mouths... Spawned right under me. The rest of the stage went perfect IMO

Stage 7: this Stage is my worst, it all depends on the spiders really. First part usualy goes well, as you see in the first take, but then as the takes go on, i get frustrated and start to slip up. Boss could be just a lil better. But I need just a bit of luck with this stage Sad

Stage 8: As close to perfect as i will get. a lil more work at it will be. My finger spazzed out on the boss, should have died bout 1/2 second faster. KEY!!!!!! NEED TO LAND WHERE I DID to kill without being in danger

Rough time: (EXCLUDING my stage 7 fumbles but not other  so i have a time to  work with) 16:09

Slower than what i had though it would be...but its faster than current rec and i have deaths in this... need to work on it a bit more, but i will be making sure yall are up to date with my run.

Comments and insults are welcome.

I have been busy so no forum for me in a week.

16:09 is great. heh, I thought that much of improvements sounds impossible. but you do a great job anyways.

Is super C like Contra, I mean that you loose one frame every time you jump?

to bad Ustream skip some of the frames. For watching this game seeing all the bullets is important Tongue I hope I can see another live attempt from you.

Stage1:
I was so surprised when you jumped between the grenades at one point in your youtube video Cheesy
About the second torret in stage 1. a problem with that one is that it have to explode for a second or two before you can run straight trough it. so If you jump earlier to hit it from the air the angle you is forced to have make you land on him while he is exploding. Otherwise you have to backtrack a little bit to be able to jump over him.

Stage2:
Great boss fight

Stage3:
Your spider fight gave me an idea of improving the any% run. Why did I always duck to hit one of his bullets..

Stage4:
Looks good. glad you pass the falling roofs as fast as possible. but the bubbles will probably be a run killer if you go for that strategy.

Stage5:
You should be able to a couple of the jumps earlier and safer if you know how it works.
Do you know that the boss doesn't take damage until he turn around on the right side of the screen the first time? just in case you didn't want to tire your arm like that.

Stage 6:
Standing to the left during the boss looks like a good strategy Smiley

Stage7:
good job!
I know you take a lots of risks already but it is possible to jump over some of the alien seeds to save time in the end of the level. Just in case you didn't know Wink

16.09 sound very great job heidman

Can you put this run in youtube too? Im not l like watch livestream videos, because these ones not work on my computer well done. But i loved see your run so can you submit it in youtube too?

I hope you visit in ebay and bought this game. I loved see new better low-% run in SDA too. Crock run was awesome, but i know with new strategy its can be a lot faster. Especially last boss is very easy make faster than crock make.

Why i not run low-% PAL run? I hate stage 7 too much. Tongue Crock run was awesome here. Shocked

I can put full runs on Youtube. the only way i can record the emulator right now makes a .flv and i dont have any way to edit it. So i have to upload to Livestream. I can only put up single stages on youtube... And i need to update them sometime soon...

I can send you the .flv file if you would like?

From my recient runs, i belive that im am going to set my goal to 15:30ish I believe this is a doable time. if not then a 15:35 should be there.

I will post a link as soon as i upload it.

Well done your low-% run. I like your boss strategys how you did Level 2 & 3 boss fight.

There was a lot nice things and close calls. I loved it. Game over was bad one, but you still got your run only 1 minutes behind current WR. Without gameover it might be par like WR maybe even faster even you make tons deaths here.

I think if you pick up this game your real NES its might be easier run that and much easier play than used computer keyboards. BTW Your firing speed seems really well done with certain places. Use you turbo button?

I just was wonder how fast you kill falling stones in level 5. Also if you played on emulator using computer keyboards it is very slow firing. I understand well if you used turbo button and it make your easier firing. Still your firing look very realistic especially if you used real NES controlls. I am almost sure frezy can fired like this on real NES.

Ya, it is sad, but if you take out the lvl 7 failing part and resume time at the finnishing run, i am faster that current record

I am using an emulator still, but i am usinf a standard ps2 dual shock controler. NO TURBO. the stones only need 5 shots to be killed, so they really are not that hard to kill off, just the falling on while jumping is the only one that gives issues. My finger speed is rather high i think. I will be on later tonight (for me) with another live cast of my rough playthrough. You can see how it takes me a lil bit of time to "warm up" to get my finger speed going properly.

Thanks for the feedback

Awesome.

Hopefully you got console too. This might be awesome see your real attempts in future. You have a lot potential beat current WR by half minutes or more. Wink And its might be awesome see sub 16 minutes run in future.

I am always liked see more low-% runs because these ones are so hard to make especially for speed. It is luck time run Contra games. It is extremely hard time got optimize low-% run. But you surely need a lot luck got it.

Tonight i made a rather well run. 4 deaths and an over all time of 15:20. After going over it and seeing where i lost time (including deaths and other slow downs) I think I am going to be setting my goal time at 15:10. I belive it is doable to get a better time, but Im setting my goal here.

Thanks "Hurg" for showing up at my live streams, giving me suport, and making me laugh at times. Your a real help keeping me going.

I am uploading this run to Archive.org for all ppl to watch it. It is in .flv file format and does not have the best of quality, but its good enough just to show my abilitys off a lil bit.

Here is the link..... http://www.archive.org/details/SuperCLow15Min20SecWithDeaths

When I submit to SDA my final product, the quality is going to be awsome.

AGAIN, this is just my practice runs using a standard PS2 controler with no turbo.

Fun note, if you watch my face, you can see how focused I get at times in the run

PLEASE leave me some feedback good or bad. I need to know what i can do to be better and I can always use an ego boost just like everyone else Wink

Thanks all for your suport
