There's that famous FF4J translation from Japanese to English.  It's supposed to be an extremely direct translation.  I can say from experience that it's a good translation, though there is quirky stuff from FF2US that I miss.

Ask at GameFAQs and I think they'd know which translation I mean.

If you mean hacks that play out differently than the original versions, like all the SMB and Mario World hacks, sorry, I don't know of any.

I'm thoroughly enjoying Final Fantasy IV - The After Years on WiiWare Cheesy albeit it's a bit odd.

Glad to see somebody else around here is playing it.  I wouldn't call it odd, but f***ing HARD.  I think this is even considerably harder then FF IV (Japan) Normal Type.

I think I have an idea who the hooded man is.  I'm just gonna have to keep playing to see if my suspicions are correct.
For the legality of it... Only if you make the ROM yourself via a copier.

That's how it goes in the US, at least. Dunno about other countries.
Silver Hawk!
Check out Zophar's domain.  There are a couple FF4, 5, and 6 hacks there.  Mostly just simple things like text changes (I heard they still fuck chickens!), occasionally new enemies.  FF2 vs. FF3 is a unique one.

Zophar's is the FF4 translation I was thinking of I think.  For example, Tellah's early scenes were more emotionally charged than they were in USA FF2.

I like the WiiWare sequel very very much, despite the facts that it won't all be out until September and the full price will be $37.  Just be aware that what's available now will not conclude the story at all.  Heh heh, there could be IL speedruns by chapter, probably all well under an hour each.

Yang's can be done in under an hour - promise you.
I can't believe how much I'm liking Final Fantasy IV: The After Years!  I mean, given how much I liked FF2 I knew this would probably be one of my favorite games this year, and it already was last month, but this month's chapters (especially Palom's and Edge's) take the quality and variety level a tremendous step higher.  I am not kidding in the least.

Yup, Lord_VG, on an extremely casual attempt at completing Yang's chapter quickly, I finished at 1:11.  Under 1 hour would be a given in a speedrun, and under a half hour may well be possible.  Same goes for Edge's chapter, surprisingly.  Murder all his subordinates as fast as you can, and he can solo the rest, probably without fighting except for the very few required battles.  Somebody on GameFAQs is trying to solo Edge's challenge dungeon, which on the other hand would be a challenge!  Yes, every single unit of the game has a tough challenge dungeon playable only after finishing the chapter.

Just be warned that I am biased.  Playing FF2 when I was 15 or so will always be one of my all-time favorite experiences.  But I believe this is a better game than FF2.

1:11?  Slow.  Try 0:47 at the final save.  I'm trying to figure out the best manner to reach the boss before 0:30, as the game's "moon time" mechanism auto changes at 30 minutes, and I wish I could figure out how to create a good balance between levels and items and time in order to do that.  I did it once, but got my ass kicked.
1:11 ... slow is right Smiley  I fought all the battles all the way to the bottom of the crater.

I bet you could beat the boss at any level with a )&?!load of Phoenix Downs.  Course you'd need money to buy them.  I bet you know which treasure chests hold good stuff?  Lol, I went waaaay out of the way for a Kenpo Gi in my speed attempt.  Very silly.

I doubt I'm very helpful.  It's really cool you're speedrunning that chapter.
Fucking Weeaboo
Most of the chapters in the game are a bitch to play, especially since the encounter rate in most of them is high, plus the bosses are a lot tougher then the original FF IV (Normal Type even!).

I should show my videos.  Just need to encode them.

(What makes Yang's story a bitch to run sometimes is that randomly in the crater section, a Red Dragon will appear, back attack you, then pull off an attack that an almost guaranteed OHKO.)
I'm guessing you know Red Dragon only appears during one moon phase.

When the last chapters are out, this game's going straight in the speedrun requests thread.  Well, that is if someone isn't already working on it by then Smiley  I love this game.  But I hear that supposedly the beginning of the final part is pretty tough if you haven't levelled way up in the challenge dungeons?  Maybe that's just GameFAQs people feeding me bad information.  (Most of this game's GameFAQs crowd is very cool, but man they insult each other a lot!)
Fucking Weeaboo
Frankly, it wouldn't surprise me, given the REST of the game is pretty tough.

And yeah, I know it only appears during the New Moon phase in that area, and it looks to be only on the one floor, but I don't have a choice.  It's pray it doesn't come, or wait about 20 minutes.  Yeah, you know the obvious solution there.
I bet obtaining and using a Tent or sleeping at an inn at some point would be too big a time loss (to change moon phases).

Do you fight the boss during the moon phase with attack raised?  If you are using Phoenix Downs, I imagine you could win.  I'm aware I know nothing of speedrunning this compared to you, so my suggestions are probably bad.
Fucking Weeaboo
In my 0:47, I go in on Waxing Quarter, though I'm trying to decide if going in on a New Moon is better, since then specials are increased, meaning that Ursula's Tenketsu is more powerful, and hopefully it also works for her Band attack with Yang, but I need to figure that out first.

I know it's possible to get to Adamantoise on a New Moon, you just have to get there fast enough, and moon phases never occur during battle.
Right, the chapter begins on a New Moon, plus New Moon improves special attacks, so finishing on New Moon is probably better than switching phases three times or whatever I was suggesting.  What percentage of attempts get destroyed by a Red Dragon?  Do you SS the chapter?

I'll sure post it if I think of something I think could help.
Fucking Weeaboo
Well, we should make a proper thread about this for discussion, instead of continuing to hijack this one.  I'll do that later.
