"Windows is loathing your personal settings"
Hi all!

I'm wondering if anyone would do a speedrun of StarCraft's official bonus campaigns Enslavers and Enslavers II: Dark Vengeance (and maybe even the single-map campaigns Loomings, Deception and Resurrection IV)? I've enjoyed watching the runs of SC vanilla and Brood War on this site, so someone running the full story of campaigns would be awesome!

Enslavers is only three maps (or actually five, but depending on choices made in map 1 you only have to play either 2A or 2B and the same for map 3 to complete the campaign) and Enslavers II is five maps plus an epilogue (map 4 and 5 are A and B choices).

This is the whole StarCraft story, in chronological order:

StarCraft Loomings (Demo)
StarCraft
StarCraft Enslavers
StarCraft Brood War
StarCraft Enslavers II: Dark Vengeance
StarCraft Deception
StarCraft Resurrection IV

Here is a link to all the bonus campaigns! Smiley

Seeing as Enslavers 2B and 3B are the canonically correct maps and likewise for EII:DV 4A and 5A, perhaps only they should be run? All maps would of course be fun to watch Wink

Go!

Hell is where the heart is.
Intriguing idea.

Never tried these maps before. Was wondering what to do tonight  :-)

Just played through Deception, and it's a perfect map for speedrunning: No base, just three ghosts running around on the installation tileset. I would so love it if someone made a run of it Roll Eyes

still haven't played them yet.  Guess it's going to have to be the weekend.

I had the perfect opportunity the other night, too.  Stuck in a hotel room with fork all to do, my laptop, these levels, and I completely forgot.

My least favourite levels are these running around ones, but oh well  :-)

I used to think that too, but this one is actually really fun. As is Resurrection IV, which I played through today. Fun fun fun! Grin
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Didn't Enslavers come out with vanilla Starcraft? And it's after BW chronologically?

Anyways, yeah, these would be fun to see.

Yeah, you're right: correct order is Vanilla -> Enslavers -> BW -> EII:DV Wink
Running Enslavers might not be very entertaining from a spectator point of view. Missions 1 and 3 require the destruction of all enemy buildings and it doesn't look like there are many cute tricks available.

I did a test run of Enslavers 1 at ~22min but it can be greatly improved mainly because my SC skills are very rusty. In mission 2A you can just D-matrix the wraith hero and head straight for the protoss forces which takes ~20 seconds. Mission 2B seems interesting. However, 3B looks long and tedious :/

I just completed 3b; I may be a below average starcraft player and I didn't optimise my strategy at all, but it took me TWO FUCKING HOURS to complete using a goliath/tank stragegy. I was even less successful with battlecruisers. Perhaps carriers are more efficient?

Of course, if you know the map, and exactly how to play, one could do this much faster. You'd have to find a cheap way to kill the cerebrate early to get rid of the overpowered ultralisk (to avoid having to spend lots of time/resources on defense), and obtain two new bases (presumably the two on the left hand side of the map) ASAP. Then defend your bases, build a single huge upgraded army supported by the science vessel and the arbiter, and wipe the floor with everything else. I can't see it happening within 40 minutes though.

I've been thinking about that one too. It looks to me like the most efficient strategy would be to first go for the base directly to the north, as it's easier to hold the bridge against the Torrasque. Then you could go Corsairs with D-web plus Shuttles full of DTs to take out the cerebrate. I've done that very successfully on other missions, key is to have enough Corsairs to take out all Overlords and D-web all Spore Colonies.

Then you can grab the base in the northwest corner, and sneak a Dropship/Shuttle combo around the top into Schezar's mining line where it seems he is most wounerable.

Note: Seems like the key is to choose path B from the start, as mission 3A is exactly the same only with the Protoss fighting against you instead of with you. One could argue that it's easier to take out the Protoss temple than the Torrasque/Cerebrate, but I guess you have to weigh that against being a lone Terran instead of the Terran/Protoss combo.
I found out it's actually possible to kill the cerebrate with your initial units: fly the arbiter along the river to a safe place just north of the cerebrate (while building your base, obviously). Then wait for energy for a recall. Make scarabs for the reaver. When you have energy, use the science vessel to D-matrix the reaver, fly south onto the land and recall the reaver and the least number of additional units you need to be able to kill the cerebrate. (In my test, I just recalled everything I had but I'm sure you can be more economical.) Focus everything on the cerebrate. Fly the arbiter back to safety.

This way, you have to kill the Torrasque only once, at the cost of a couple of good units. But I think it's worth it. So the next step would be to boost your economy as quickly as possible while not dying. I haven't figured out that bit though.

Unfortunately, my APM is WAY too low for a good speedrun of this level. So someone with better skills would have to be interested. I'd enjoy working on a good strat though.
Dumb question incoming:

Is it not possible to mind control the torrasque by playing the map under Brood War? I remember mind controlling about 40 torrasques for fun and then attacking.

Hey this sounds fun! I'm sure it's possible to mind control a Torrasque. It would have been quite hard for the game developers to prevent you from doing so. However, it's probably not very time-efficient: you'd need to spend lots of resources and time to make a couple of Dark Archons, research Mind Control, and gather an army of Torrasques and other units (battlecruisers?)
That doesn't sound very fair, since the first campaign was designed without Brood War in mind IMO.

The first map can be done with M&M only if that was the case.

Agree, it sounds way too time- and resource-consuming to tech to DAs.
And you would only get one Torrasque every 3-5 minutes anyway (I don't remember the exact timing)

I was messing around and I found out the following: If you went the assassinate Alan Schezar path, you only need to destroy the warp gate.

However, if you went the corrupted crystals path, you have to destroy the EMP device AND Alan Schezar.

In terms of speed, one path is clearly faster than the other.
